I feel that. I’ve missed the last couple sales and will probably sit this one out too.

They aren’t as good as they used to be

Hey, there are always the free games given away by Epic and others…

Picked up lords of the fallen and it’s been scratching that souls-like itch I’ve had since I finished elden ring.

Been picking up hot wheels games for my son recently. The monster truck game just came up for 70% off, putting it right in the zone I’m willing to pay.

Horizon 5 has one heck of a Hot Wheels expansion, if y’all don’t already have it.

The Hot Wheels Unlimited games are great!

  • Doom 2016 $4 -80%
  • Neon White 2022 $10 -60%
  • Inscryption 2021 $8 -60%

Never played Doom 2016 but I’ve heard it’s very good.

Doom 2016 was my game for last year and into early this year. For what it’s worth, I enjoyed it quite a bit once I got into it. I tried to start it a few times and that didn’t work out, but then suddenly last winter, it all just clicked.

I had also tried Doom Eternal, and that’s not my thing. Doom 2016 lets you play at your own pace, your own style, and make your own choices on how to play … mostly. Doom Eternal you basically have to play it the way THEY want you to play and use the weapons THEY want you to use and if you don’t then you’re in for an unfun struggle. Doom 2016 isn’t really like that, in my opinion and experience.

One of the yt gamers I watch made a comment about how by the end of Doom the final boss isn’t the mastermind, it’s you. The demons are trying to survive the doomslayer as you rip and tear

Inscryption is fantastic. Enjoy it!

I picked up Ikaruga. I can feel the input delay, but it’s still fun.

For the first time I decided to spend my money on a Lagavulin 16 and Port Charlotte 10.

Oh nice. I love Islay single malts. I’ve never tried Port Charlotte 10 but Lagavulin 16 is excellent.

Yes. Probably not the best place to post such a reply, found many games lackluster this year… But a peaty dram always wins!

Amen to that. I’m more of a rum guy during Christmas but the rest of the year I stick to whiskey. I didn’t drink much this year so I’m still stocked up, but the next time I do buy a bottle I might get Lagavulin again.

Nothing, absolutely nothing. My backlog is huge with games that have hours to play.

This appears to be written in English, but I can’t make sense of it.

We must feed the backlog, always.

makes completion rates go down though, and adds an awful lot of zeroes (hours played)

According to isthereanydeal, these sales aren’t nearly as good as they were last seasonal sale in June

I had been saving up for Deltarune, avoiding spoilers for years (didn’t have time to even play the demo)

Y’all got any recs for “AI sandboxes” in the vein of Rimworld and Stellaris? Stellaris is just borked now, and I’ve modded/played the hell out of Rimworld.

Dwarf fortress :)

Zomboid?

Someone already told you this, but I want to elaborate

Dwarf Fortress was essentially what Rimworld was cloned from. I’ve been downvoted into oblivion by rimworld fans for such heresy, but it’s true.

For the longest time DF has been free, disgustingly ugly, and getting updates for like 20 years (think you can still download freeware version, but there’s a steam version now you can pay for. I bought it because it’s been a gem for YEARS and devs more than deserve my $20 or whatever it was).

Rimworld took the DF game, made it sci fi, and made it not absolute dogshit to look at.

You could always mod DF with icon packs that made it look a lot better but it was still pretty ugly.

The steam version of DF looks much, much better but it’s not quite as pretty as Rimworld still, I think.

Either way, if you got any time out of Rimworld and want something similar, Dwarf Fortress is your best choice. They’re both great and are IMO the best in class of whatever genre you’d call it.

Nah, I’m a hardcore Rimworld fan who’s been with it since the forum Alphas, and that’s completely true, heh. IIRC was explicitly inspired by DF, literally part of the description in the early days.

That being said, I’ve never played DF. I’m more into sci fi and tech than Tolkien-esque fantasy, hence I’ve passed on stuff like Necesse and… what’s that massive city builder? That, and many I’ve forgotten the names of.

Maybe I will give DF a look though. Maybe it has automation/tech mods that would make it more appealing, like Minecraft and Rimworld?

I’m also way more into sci fi than fantasy. But IMO, DF is a much, much better game. I’ve never looked for a mod that does what you’re looking for but I wouldn’t be surprised if it exists, at least for the texture packs. I think it would be pretty challenging to make a mod that redid all the generated flare (like when your dwarves carve stuff up and there’s RNG of the scene they carve) but not impossible. I never cared about any of that crap so I never read it anyways, but lots of people love it.
