Lately I’ve just been playing FTL & Stardew Valley on an old Linux machine.

I intend on playing New Vegas soon, with the intention of finishing it before Fallout Season 2.

I’ve just been playing Valorant, might get back into Age of Empires 2.

I’m sure they got better, but they never won me back, that original feeling of disappointment is still associated with the games for me.

From what I understand, the game was recently moved to AWS, which makes regional servers significantly easier and cheaper.

Now if only ESO could do the same…

v2.0 is all well and good, but it’s still 3 years after I bought it, not giving them the benefit of the doubt next time.

Resident Evil 2 (2019) is a fantastic remake of the sequel, I’ve finished it multiple times.

I haven’t had an iPhone since 3GS, but I am excited for this.

I don’t plan on getting an overpriced iPhone, or an IOS device at all for that matter, but console quality games, native on mobile is exciting.

>I played it on my phone which nowadays is the port of the pixel remaster. I loved it and I thought it was great! I definitely felt a little overpowered due to not fleeing at all. I would recommend checking it out, I got just under 28 hours of playtime on my first run.

Just finished Red Dead Redemption 1 and Undead Nightmare on PC using the Xenia emulator
cross-posted from: https://midwest.social/post/2310989 > It’s a great game and I’m so glad I finally got to play it. > > I’m running a RTX 2070 Super and a Ryzen 5 3600 with 32 gigs of RAM. Using Xenia-Canary I could run the game at 1080p with decent framerate, but that caused some really unpleasant brightness issues at night, so I stuck with 720p and honestly stopped noticing the low resolution after a while. The game ran at a stable 60 all the way to the end and I encountered absolutely no issues besides some flickering shadows once or twice. > > If you have a decent gaming PC and have never played the original RDR I strongly recommend you try this. It can be a bit of a faff to find what emulator settings work for you, but once you get it working properly, it’s an absolute blast. RDR still holds up really well in my opinion. >

The Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Series

The first game was fantastic, the subsequent releases during Telltale’s pre-insolvency era were subjective. Personally they are a great series and its -70% off at fanatical atm.

Fortnightly Recommendations Thread: What is worth a try?
Let everyone know below a game (6+ months old), that you have played recently, are currently playing or intend to play soon. If it's currently on sale, a link to the sale & price would be great.

For that price you would be considering Baldurs Gate 3, I got DS2 on GOG but regretted not having Steam Workshop.

Because they are paying Reddit for that API use, they won’t be getting it for free.

The app has is own API, not for individual user.

They are averaging out the cost.

If found for cheap, an Xbox One X would be a good option.

That just eleveates guilt for 🏴‍☠️, I was genuinely going to pay for it, but Epic paid for me to not have the opportunity on Steam.

I’ve never bought ESO subscription, I have 200 inventory / 240 bank on my main character and manage my items with addons, I own the 6 previous expansions with the $20 bundle and intend to play what I own before wanting DLC I don’t have.

I trade Gold for other DLC I want.

Outside of free weekends or perhaps peaktime weekends in general, it is probably the nicest community I’ve ever played with.

I’m still playing Elder Scrolls Online, which means I am not playing much atm while I upskill in Linux/docker etc.

I just hop on, do my 15 minutes of daily writs between two characters with addons and hop off.

I’ve been meaning to play/finish Max Payne 3 for years, to me I just love the visual style and was surprised how good it looked on PC for being a PS3/360 game.

You can, the full voice acting makes solo play beneficial playing the story.

**Update:** As pointed out by Twitter user @videotechx, Rockstar actually spoke to releasing two “new iterations of previously-released titles” that are strictly ports or remastered titles (and not sequels) in Rockstar’s FY 2024, which is any time between March 2023 and March 2024.

To me it feels like BG3 will be like DOS2 but better with full CGI cut scenes etc

I do use Izzy’s repo, it isn’t a full f-droid experience without it

The alternatives have looked nice, but overall I keep coming back to Jerboa as it has had less bugs for my experience. But I also get automated updates via F-Droid and previous versions have been buggy.

The Sniper Elite 3 mechanics felt really good and made it stand out as a bonus L4D style game.

I really like Prey and feel that it was underrated because of the IP name they used.

Prey (2017) $7.49 at -75%

I’ve played Diablo 3 with Reaper of Souls since launch, never got the final expansion due to lack of sales.

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/706764 > So I consider myself a very casual Pikmin fan. I haven't played the first 2 since they came out for the GameCube, and have only played some of the 3rd one back on WiiU. So with Pikmin 4 around the corner and Nintendo shadow dropping the first two on Switch, I figured it was time for a replay. > > I just completed Pikmin 1, and what an absolutely fantastic experience. I think back when I was a kid playing the first one may have been just a bit too much strategy for me to comprehend. But now may years later, I just absorbed myself into it. > > Pacing out every day to explore the areas and devise a strategy of what I could reasonably tackle, judging if I should spend the day going straight for ship parts or doing pikmin harvesting... It all comes together with such an incredible sense of flow. The 30 Day time limit really makes you consider all of your actions. And it seemed like an intimidating limit at first, but the 30 Day cycle was much more forgiving than I expected. Even if I had a rough day, I could at least put my Pikmin away and just run around and assess the areas as Olimar. > > And even as just an upscale, the visuals are brilliant. I love that early GameCube era look of games like this and Luigis Mansion. The way the environments and camera are designed do a great job making you feel like a tiny man in a big strange world. > > I feel like I've fallen in love with a franchise all over again. I'm starting Pikmin 2 tonight, and can't wait to play 4 next month. If you haven't tried out this series, please do yourself a favor and grab at least the first game on the eshop. It's a perfect slice of pure Nintendo.

a list of games “Ahead of their time” (Beehaw)
Original post at [[email protected]](https://beehaw.org/post/766049) ---- I see the phrase 'ahead of it's time' used a lot like a long with words such as 'underrated' or 'epic' or 'literally', or 'ironic'. I read how ahead of it's time is used for literally any popular game that it alters the meaning of the phrase. Anyways here is a list of games I feel would have sold or been more known had they been released several years in the future: - **Jurassic Park Trespasser**: the YouTube channel ResearchIndicates and one of the most informative Let's Play videos of all time best explains this game. JPT had a rather ambitious physics engine AND open world environments which seemed pretty much undoable at the time, along with non gameplay breaking story flow with Attenborough himself. But just like with No Man's Sky the hype engine and promising too much got the devs way over their heads and failed. Valve was able to continue what JPT started with Half Life, but I imagine if it had more time JPT could have been an immersive classic. - **Time Splitters Future Perfect** an FPS with sharable Map Creation content. The problem I feel was many people didn't try this as Halo's Forge wasn't out yet to bring to light what user content can really do, and less accessible online play at the time. - **Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3** Okay this doesn't count, but I just want to mention this because the official Sony Network Adapter wasn't even out yet when this released. You have to use a specific brand of Linksys or D-Link USb to Ethernet adapter on your PS2 to get it to work 😄. So I classify this ahead of it's time due to the first party product not existing yet. - **Psychonauts**. This was an easy one, non Mario platformers weren't the trend among the ocean of best selling Xbox titles. Thankfully A Hat In Time much later showed the more mainstream appeal of small dev platformers. - **Dragon Quest 1 & 5 in the US**. Not in Japan as you could shut down Japan for a day with the release of a new Dragon Quest game (tip for invaders). DQ has always struggled in the US partly due to, oddly enough, taking so long to reach the US. It's a mix of too early and too late, with DQ 1 inventing the traditional console RPG format, and DQ5 being Pokemon before Pokemon, to quote Tim Rogers. But early DQ games releasing far too late on the NES life and not releasing on SNES I feel could have made DQ games closer to FF games in the US

I might get back into Fallout 4 soon
![](https://i.imgur.com/XEzlGJP.png) Fallout 4's announcement was a breath of fresh air after years of game trailers with exponentially long delays. It was the first time in the video game industry that we were experiencing multiple year periods between the announcement and release. When Bethesda put up a [countdown clock](https://www.ign.com/articles/2015/06/02/fallout-4-countdown-clock-appears-runs-out-tomorrow) on their website in **June**, we had no idea that what we were going to be shown would release in **November** of the same year. ![](https://i.imgur.com/C6cE6rm.jpeg) I think the whole industry changed its outlook on announcement windows from how much hype came from not just the announcement that a new Fallout was coming for the new console gen, but the excitement that we'd actually be able to play it within only a few months. IMO the RPG elements were not as nice after having played The Witcher 3 just a few months prior, but the feeling of being the wanderer in a wasteland was still very cool and I enjoyed the building additions. ![](https://i.imgur.com/fiBSpZN.jpg) The Pip Boy might have been a bit of a [flop](https://www.trustedreviews.com/opinion/why-the-fallout-4-pip-boy-edition-is-a-huge-disappointment-2926374), but the application itself was still a cool novelty addition to the game for 2015. I do wish that second screen applications had grown and gotten better, but it appears they needed to be good from the start for wide adoption. The colour palate was massive improvement over the beige green and browns from the PS3/360 generation, I still have no idea why so many games used to have no colour to them. ![](https://i.imgur.com/5Fn7mNC.png) There aren't that many games that have as much of a mod scene like Bethesdas games, if you don't already have the game and are going to buy it, get it on PC if you can. Also make sure to buy the GOTY Edition with all the DLC, as there are many mods that are dependent on all of the content. I would also avoid the Creation Club and get accustomed to the [NexusMods page](https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4), you should download and setup [Vortex Mod Manager](https://www.nexusmods.com/about/vortex/) which handles mods fairly well. [**Best Fallout 4 mods 2023**](https://www.pcgamesn.com/fallout-4/best-fallout-4-mods) In order for mods to work on the PS4, within Sony's required limitations, mods themselves on consoles can't be much more than short in code length. So the Creation Club which was designed for consoles does not host the same quality in library. Fallout 4 got an 88% on [OpenCritic](https://opencritic.com/game/1508/fallout-4/reviews) with one reviewer saying this; >Bethesda has created another game you can lose your life in. New experiences just keep coming, and you always have another perk to unlock. ~ [Game Informer](https://www.gameinformer.com/games/fallout_4/b/xboxone/archive/2015/11/09/a-familiar-wasteland.aspx) The game with all DLC is -75% on Steam at $9.99 for the next week, even cheaper in my region with AUD. I’m currently playing Divinity Original Sin 2
[**Divinity: Original Sin 2 - Definitive Edition**](https://store.steampowered.com/app/435150/Divinity_Original_Sin_2__Definitive_Edition/) ![](https://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/435150/capsule_616x353.jpg?t=1631177562) I had bought this on GOG a couple years ago and had intended on getting back to it, it has taken me a few hours to wrap my head around what this game actually is as I was trying to complete all the quest for the first main area **Fort Joy**, but after watching [Divinity: Original Sin 2 is an RPG Lover's Dream](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2UYczfOkmM) by [Ghostcharm](https://www.youtube.com/@Ghostcharm) it's clicked and I am trying to be more open to not winning every situation as if it was a more genuine adventure. With a 93/100 on [OpenCritic](https://opencritic.com/game/3828/divinity-original-sin-2) for the original release, PCGamer had [this to say](https://www.pcgamer.com/divinity-original-sin-2-review/); >Playing Divinity: Original Sin 2 is uncannily like playing a tabletop RPG. The way that Larian’s sequel embraces player creativity immediately conjures up memories of days spent sitting around a table, asking the Dungeon Master if I can attempt the last stupid idea that floated into my head. And like a good DM, Original Sin 2 usually answers that question with “Yes, you can attempt it.” My only regret is that I got it on GOG as it was cheaper, which has made mods less friendly without the Steam Workshop, but it was a lot cheaper at the time and hasn't gone [below $15.74](https://steamdb.info/app/435150/) on Steam since.

In a month, I will have had Alan Wake in my Steam library for a decade without having finished it yet.
![](https://cdn2.steamgriddb.com/file/sgdb-cdn/grid/ef0e1d56faee5d1938febf0bfdcb8d3f.png) Alan Wake (2013) was the first game I bought on Steam back in July of 2013 and I enjoyed it, but I never got around to completing it. In a months time it will have been a year since I started that game and I still plan to finish it. It is starting to feel a bit dated and I know there is a *remaster*, but I feel compelled to finish the original copy I've been sitting on for the last decade. I believe it was the first digital game I bought and at the time it was a weird concept to buy a game I couldn't give away or sell.
