Nobody called it the PS1 until the PS2 came along. Sony codenamed it the PSX.
Apparently you weren’t there when the original PlayStation came out. If you’re into nostalgia like that, you’re studying the wrong thing…

I’m in the complete opposite side of this spectrum. I just feel apathy towards people who call the PSX “PS1”, even though I am not sure if they’re talking about the real PS One or just being ignorant.
The real PS was called the… PS
Where did this 1 and X shit come from?
Blatantly stolen from r/PSX:
Additional link to Imgur source, in case the above is compressed to hell:
This is something every PSX fan needs at least once in their life
I mean, really… absolutely nobody. /s
Well, it came from… Sony, their creators!
PSX was the codename for the original model. It was spread even before it was launched. PS One was the PlayStation “Slim”.
And the real PS was the one that had the parallel diagnostic port on the back, what’s ya point?
That’s precisely the PSX.

No shit. When it came out, it was most commonly abbreviated simply as PS.
Guess you weren’t around when the system and the games came out.
As someone who was around when it was current, yes, everyone called it PSX.
No and nope. Guess you weren’t around when it came out.
I’m 42 years old and wrote DOS drivers for mice, joysticks, graphics and audio cards for hardware back in the day.
Oh yeah, check my comment history, I literally just dropped a modded port of Tomb Raider 1 for Debian Linux.
I’m old enough to have repaired three different original PlayStations in one night.
Riddle me this… How many screws hold together the optical assembly on an original PlayStation?
Have you ever heard how super Saiyan is said in Japanese, the base language of the series?
Or almost every other language besides English.
PSX was actually the codename and the abbreviation is PS. PS One was the smaller redesigned version Sony released in 2000. The PS One is very charming with its small form factor, probably my favorite console of all time. I own both to this day.
Ah yes. Just like “GCN” for Nintendo GameCube.
Another thing that irks me is Microsofts stupid decision to name a console “Xbox” then one later down the line “Xbox One”
Oh cool, you have an Xbox One? I still have an Xbox …1…?
I’d heard the reason for the Xbox One was that some marketing genius noticed people were calling Xbox 360 “the 360”, and thought they would call that one… well, the One.
And then everyone laughed and went ex-bone instead.

“I have an Xbox.”
“Oh cool, which one?”
“The original.”
Eggsbox, £3.60
Brinjal, aubergine, eggplant, all the same.
Nah, we’re all actually talking about the PSX.
I’ve never heard someone verbally say “PSX”. Does that happen?
It was usually said when referring to the PlayStation secondarily:
I only use “PS1” when naming a ROM folder so it sorts correctly.
The PSX was always called the PSX. It always shared a suspicious name similarity with the Microsoft MSX computer device family, which Sony manyfactured some of them.
PSx
Well since Sony made a model called one, there’s a point in psx for the whole line.
No one called it psx. It was PlayStation.
