Any Roguelike/Roguelite suggestions?
I've sunk probably a thousand hours into Slay the Spire, have beaten Hades, and just finished Cult of the Lamb. Looking for something else to scratch that itch- preferably on switch. Any suggestions? Update: Y'all convinced me. I bought Binding of Isaac and am excited to start. I also tried out Dead Cells via Netflix, but feel like I'd prefer it with a controller compared to mobile. Gonna start with Isaac, and wait for a sale on Dead Cells. Thank you for all the recommendations! I'm saving this thread for future reference.

Robocraft was near and dear to me. It's also the reason I don't bother with live service games anymore. In 2017-2018-ish, Robocraft was one of my favorite games, ever. Then they were able to take that game away from me and replace it with something I liked far less. This is inevitable for any live service game; if not replacing the game you liked with something else, then its removal altogether so that no one can play it anymore in any form. It sucks. > It’s with a heavy heart that we have to tell you all that we’re ceasing production on Robocraft 2 and closing Freejam as a studio. With the current market conditions and the server costs required to keep a game like RC2 running, we’re simply unable to launch or sustain development. You know, if you let your customers run the servers themselves, we'd be able to keep playing the game and you wouldn't have to bear the burden of those costs!

My wifi was still out until this evening, so i decided to finally pick up Max Payne 2 since i had it installed, if only so i can finally clear it off my list. I made it about halfway through the entire thing today before stopping when my Wi-Fi came back on. The game has this pretty backdrop of rain, though i still think the first game's snow was my favorite. The game feels a bit more refined than the first one, though this may just be the higher poly models making it easier to tell what i can and can't shoot through. It also feels a lot easier and forgiving with Ammo. With the first one i felt like i had to make each shot count, this one i feel like i have had no shortage of ammo. ![](https://pixelfed.social/storage/m/_v2/718679864092257684/634f2a4e4-291f24/Ajxlg7uzO7my/5XsrMZApJl0O9xCpTeSJ5I9Z2OP7STpohvriIAs2.jpg) > The rain I mentioned The soundtrack for this game is just as good as the first one too and i love how some of the levels sprinkle in references to the first one. There's a bar sign that references the bar from the first game, and you even got to go there in reverse of what the first game made you go through too. ![](https://pixelfed.social/storage/m/_v2/718679864092257684/634f2a4e4-291f24/ploTTyM2QVjm/5glcH3VMPKYgitZnsTwCtrMUvpG1M9e16stotzFB.jpg) > The fun house there was also this fun house section that you go through and it was a unique change of pace, especially when it's revisited later. There's a section with a giant ass needle, and as someone who's unsettled by needles, i think i can safely say that's the first time this game has unsettled me.

Got any good strategy game recommendations?
Any new strategy games worth checking out? Recently tried [Pennon and Battle](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2915660/Pennon_and_Battle/), which is similar to HOMM, and the roguelike strategy game [Into the Breach](https://store.steampowered.com/app/590380/Into_the_Breach/). My Wi-Fi was out today, so that knocked all multiplayer things out and for whatever reason Sackboy wouldn't load with the Wi-Fi out. So instead i booted up Breath of The Wild on Cemu and played that. After i got the Camera upgrade i went crazy taking photos of everything i could (instead of, yknow, stopping the giant evil presence that wanted to destroy the world). I didn't realize how badly the System compressed the images though so a *lot* of these came out crunchy. I got the photo of the dog right outside of Dueling Peaks Stables. I had a different one saved of a dog rolling on it's back but this one turned out *far* better than that one because it was too dark. I've been trying to walk everywhere to familiarize myself with the world (i also turned on the Pro Hud to help encourage me to navigate by sight too). While on my way to the Stables i blew up some fish and got a photo of them right before grabbing them to cook: ![](https://pixelfed.social/storage/m/_v2/718679864092257684/634f2a4e4-291f24/wyaYUI1oirXo/suHI6YP0tpOrgwMe7QufIWphR7jCAtzq5U1Vu12k.jpg) I also got this photo of beetle looking concerned. Probably because i was all up in his face and he kept turning to look away from me. I ended up selling some Gems to him afterwards to afford my horse i named Darren. ![](https://pixelfed.social/storage/m/_v2/718679864092257684/634f2a4e4-291f24/7Cs8oNMtmyy0/r6UxYSHoavWrMM7Llc8O5ZMV7odSqDq3wF1iUU6g.jpg) This was one of the first photos i took by myself. I went out back and this lizard was posing majestically, so i grabbed a photo of that too for the compendium. ![](https://pixelfed.social/storage/m/_v2/718679864092257684/634f2a4e4-291f24/OZxYQ0mgMi7K/7v9rMY8CbGodfEKSwdCUmD3BD8tl11OvREqQcm5z.jpg)

I decided to give Sackboy: A Big Adventure a try today. I bought it last year and never started it (though, the same could be said for 70% of my library). I decided to just drop Black Flag because i couldn't get the DLC to show up. So i this is what i picked to play next. Little Big Planet 2 was one of my favorite games growing up, so i was excited to play this. It's definitely not what i was expecting from something with Sackboy in it, but i think my expectations were unfair because i was expecting something like Little Big Planet. It's similar in many ways, but i would say it's much closer to Mario 3D Land instead of Little Big Planet. After getting over my expectations i really found myself enjoying it. I do wish the Story was a bit more involved in the Levels like they were in Little Big Planet (after the intro i don't think i got any plot exposition for it until six levels in), but they are really well crafted and it has some of the same mechanics that LBP does (i mourn the Level Maker though). The music is really good too. Though i feel like it feels very out of place and abstract if that makes any sense (though this could very well be my Nostalgia for Pemberton and the other composer's works), it's very well made and i enjoyed the pieces i heard in the first world i played, such as the Yeti one. The Gameplay is really well made too, there was this puzzle in one of them i really enjoyed where you walked around on this big Screen Like thing. It was a really cool idea. The also have a whole level the utilizes the Rolling mechanic which i feel like is a clever way to get players to adjust to it. ![](https://pxscdn.com/public/m/_v2/718679864092257684/634f2a4e4-291f24/USuxWTP5mOpH/6NBiT4G5cIc97XeEmi1sr5Xag973WTrx6qIsYjuT.jpg) The game also sees the Customization return. I had some free things that i ended up using to customize my character and i bought some cat eyes. I ended up with this thing: ![](https://pxscdn.com/public/m/_v2/718679864092257684/634f2a4e4-291f24/MBtQGVBQrMiD/aZQJbFRNeiZvq7LNeP15wwUnHF6E4kt9uRXbVD2H.jpg)

Hey today I wanted to show something amazing from the Stanley Parable-inspired game I'm developing. Might be a long read so bare with me: at the end of my demo The Narrator is annoyed that the player presses The Button (in a game called Do Not Press The Button)! So he demands the player to send a 500 word essay on why they shouldn't press it. I put this line in as a joke and didn't expect to get anything, but funnily enough I've gotten so much essays which you can see here in the[ video ](https://imgur.com/a/essays-6YHtVcI) and I decided as an Easter Egg to put a secret room in the FULL GAME where people can actually read all of essays that was sent and I'm sure there are a lot of Lemmy people that have sent one. In the video you can see small example of what people have written! It's just awesome and makes me smile! P.S. If you want to support my work and encourage development a simple wishlist of the game on [Steam ](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2336120/Do_Not_Press_The_Button_Or_Youll_Delete_The_Multiverse/) will make my day! P.S. It was so funny to see someone playing the demo on their Stream and after they finished it, they opened a text file and started writing the essay, and you see new viewers coming in, expecting gameplay or something, and she is like "Oh, I'm doing my homework that this game gave me" :D

From Jason Schreier. "The plural of 'anecdote' is not 'data'," but this is some analysis from Schreier seemingly rooted in many anecdotes. The long and short of it is that development on AAA games tend to routinely hit bottlenecks where entire portions of a team are waiting for some other team to unblock them so that they can continue to get work done.

It was previously releasing Feb 14. Does not look good for Ubisoft.

This looks.... Really mediocre. HotD2 was an iconic game that aged well, this looks like a generic Unreal Engine demo scene.

I don't know if this is a good community to post to, but it's a cool game and i want to share it somewhere. I think i heard about this game in a conlang group. I recently played the demo, and it was amazing. The game's idea is pretty novel too. You decipher a logographic language based on context and clues, and you have to manually decipher the words meaning, too; so you could translate it wrong. in the "ME ME TOWER GO PRAISE" box, i'm not sure if the PRAISE hieroglyph is actually correct. I love linguistics, and to see a game made around it is awesome. ![A devotee saying "ME ME TOWER GO PRAISE"](https://files.catbox.moe/ty2b88.png) ![The guard's have their own language!](https://files.catbox.moe/65vibm.png)

Seemingly confirming the theory that "Xbox" will just be Windows going forward, at least on handhelds.

It's also open source.

Today's game is Red Dead Online. I was going to take a screenshot of Black Flag but i was so caught up in getting all the collectibles (I'm somehow *still* not done too) that i forgot to take one. In better news i did 100% the story (and got a bunch more achievements with it). ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/1c8abf23-c28e-407e-92a9-46dad5fa40dc.png) In Red Dead Online me and my friend just kind of spent the whole evening Fishing. Ended up catching this pike with a Shotgun blast. I couldn't figure out how to cook it so it sits on the back of my horse for now. I also used dynamite to try and catch some more. It killed them but they got swept down stream. Our camp also got put by this really pretty waterfall which was a nice set piece to our fishing: ![](https://pixelfed.social/storage/m/_v2/718679864092257684/634f2a4e4-291f24/t9jjMVX6NRPS/ywBnfQJkyugw4ik5Pkpaj1qbV2yqHjFCw3NkeJcP.jpg) Me and my friend afterwards hogtied each other and threw each other off the waterfall before ending for the night.
