I agree that the Xbox version is the best one (not sure about the PC version though), which is weird that this statement remains valid as of today lol.
If you already own a bunch of Xbox 360 digital games, they’ll continue to be playable. You just won’t be able to purchase new games or DLC from an Xbox 360 console.
That… actually doesn’t answer it. If the games I paid for only exist on my hard drive and not on any store… what happens when the drive eventually fails?
They stated that you will still be able to redownload games you’ve already purchased. You just won’t be able to make new purchases. It’s kind of weird that the original article left that part out considering it’s what most people would care about.
It sucks to lose access to digital content on the original console, but I am at least glad that they are continuing to offer access to digital Xbox 360 games/DLC that are backwards compatible on Series X, and that folks can still download content they own.
This is akin to Steam declaring that it will no longer support Windows 7. Which is actually happening at the end of this year.
Man, I knew this day would come, but I hate now that it actually has a date. My 360 is still going strong, and I’m dreading the day it gives out. Yeah, I could just move everything over to my Xbox One, but I’m not even sure all the 360 games I own are backwards compatible.
360s are in their golden age of cheapness right now. They’re outdated, but not yet retro. Buy a couple extras and toss them in the closet for when you need spare parts.
Xbox emulation looks underdeveloped compared to PlayStation and Wii, but from what I can tell Xenia has come a long way in the last couple of years. If you’re willing to give it a go, you could try ripping the games off your discs and just play on PC
That definitely sounds like something I should look into, especially since I play on PC as well. Also sounds good for a couple older Xbox games I love that never got ported to PC. Thanks for the suggestion!

This should be the path always in order to get games, it is for me.
Physical isn’t much good if you can’t pop it in and play, lots of games need day one updates to be playable.

I agree, posts like this are more of a heads up. It was nice of MS to support Xbox 360 for this long anyways, it’s almost 18 years old now.
The advtage that MS has over Sony and Nintendo is that they own their CDN, so they dont pay as much as their competition would for the same service.

Not if my 360 quits on me and they’re not backwards compatible or available with my Xbox One.

Just out of curiosity, where’s emulation at with the x360 these days?
Xenia has gotten really good. A friend of mine played through Red Dead Redemption on it without issues. You still need a good CPU, though.
