Enough live service games have lost enough money, including Sega’s Hyenas, that at least one company is now scared enough to stop making them. Video games are healing.

Good to see them doing that instead of massive layoffs.
They’re sitting on IP’s with crazy potential like Jet Set Radio / Crazy Taxi and are doing nothing with them.
Last House of the Dead game is ages ago.
Here’s hoping we can get something like Skies of Arcadia. It’s probably nostalgia but it was such an amazing game back when I was younger.
It’s just too bad they’ve turned PSO into some weird anime shell of its former self. I’ve tried so many times to play it but the characters look creepy af.
They’re literally making new jet set radio and crazy taxi games right now though
Both of those are coming back, but I’m curious to see how you make Crazy Taxi make sense more than two decades after the death of arcades.
Given trends, probably open world online craziness.
Crazy Taxis: World
Well, if the article is any indication…
I have heard that every year for the past several years, I’ll believe it when I see it.
In the meantime, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is goddamn amazing and there’s a “sequel” being made called Hyperfunk
Finally! Of all the gaming companies, I think Sega is #2 behind EA on properties they own that they are doing fuck all with.
I’d love a current gen Burning Rangers, or Phantasy Star (not online).
They do fuck all even with titles that are “active”, like PSO2. It’s so far behind the big MMORPGs I don’t even know why are they keeping them online, even the lack of content is just absurd.
Add Puyo Puyo to the list of Sega IPs suffering a fate worse than death, they sold the series’ soul to keep selling Tetris over and over. We’re never getting a main series game ever again.
The market has shown time and time again there’s a place for good 2D games or 3D games that aren’t using bleeding edge graphics.
Rolling thunder, Golden Axe, Outrun, Eternal Champions, Bonanza Bros…
There are many abandoned great franchises that in the right hands (see the latest Shinobi) would do great IMO.
If Sega still had their edge Haste would have been a Sonic game before the indie studio could think of it and PSO2 NG wouldn’t exist
Unpopular opinion / downvote magnet 🧲
I haven’t fully enjoyed Sonic’s transition to 3D. The 2.5D & on-rails parts do work, but I don’t think the free roaming sections are as good as other 3D games, and I don’t know if it’s the speed to blame or the auto-aim or what is it that just doesn’t click with me as much as the 2D games did.
I really wish I could have fun with the newer titles but I haven’t be able so far.
Doesn’t everyone who played the 2D games first share this opinion? The 3D games have their moments, but they’re ludicrously imprecise and frustrating.
They all focus on letting anyone run fast, which just makes them feel like autopilot.
Haste lets you run fast and actually gives the player control. It’s what a 3D Sonic should be.
I’m still stuck on Sonic Adventure 2: Battle as my all time favorite Sonic game. It was peak 3D Sonic. You’re right about the speed tho, which brings us to Haste. Play it, and you’ll see how it should have been done and how Sega is completely washed because they couldn’t do this.
I tried the demo when it came out. Great game, but I got turned off by the level design. There were lot of times when I got lost and didn’t know what to do or where to go. And not in a good way, like on Journey, Abzû or Sword of the Sea, you can get lost and get rewarded for exploring but getting back on track is intuitive.
Haste has better physics though.
Imo SA2 is overrated and SA1 aged better.
Its my bias. I played them both but grew up with 2. I’ll admit it tho. They’re both great imo.
That’s true! The Haste game mechanics would make an insane Sonic game :0
