I’ve been playing Blood Typers with a friend after finishing The Textorcist from last week (what can I say, I like typing lol).

Apart from that, I got the itch to play some Titanfall 2 / Northstar, so that’s been fun as always

I’m currently playing Astrox Imperium. The dev was out of communication for a while and is now back, though he is going to finish it up as best he can and then later on make it open source since I guess he’s burned out on it or something. It’s a game I really like. It’s a sandbox space trading/combat single player game that is often referred to as “Eve Offline”.

I think I am going to try Dave the Diver and/or Songs of Conquest.

Really enjoy Dave the diver. Wish the sushi restaurant was more central than the adventure story, but it’s fun.

MotorTown. Absolutely chill. It’s like all the vehicle driving sims merged into one!

Deep Rock Galactic Survivor a lot. Got it on sale for like $7 and got quite a few hours. My husband and I love roguelites.

After a few failed tries I started doing a serious play to win run of XCom UFO Defense with OpenXCom. The game can seem daunting but it’s honestly pretty fun!

Then I looked into other open source games and got distracted big time by starting Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 for my first time EVER with OpenRCT2! I now fully understand the hype and it’s crazy that I haven’t played it sooner

I’m playing Wylde Flowers. It’s a farm sim game with witchcraft, but I mostly like it because it is extremely low-stress. No inventory management, no time pressure to do things, just building a farm and talking to / romancing people.

I picked it up after I got to the point in Subnautica where you have too much contact with leviathans, and I need something calm and relaxing. Maybe I’ll make more Subnautica progress soon, though :).

Edit: Spelling

Farming sim? No stressful management? Witchcraft?

You caught my interest and my attention.

Currently working through the Talos Principle. Really fun + there’s a really cool shader to render ripples on water.

Mostly “Disco Elysium” (translates from Latin to “I learn [the world of] Elysium” btw. OFC it’s disco AF too)

And yes, it’s been 6 years since release and 4 years since “The Final Cut”… ((:

I love this game SM. It’s such a welcome break from the neoliberal postmodernist slop, being a genuine piece of art. I love it’s materialist and politeconomic perspective on society; in general, the writing is just superb (there is no going back after it too, most games and art in general (including novels and films) might just seem mediocre afterwards)…
The writers did their research about basically everything they wrote about (even racial “”“science”“”, OFC depicted negatively), with a focus on psychology, political economy, sociology and philosophy.

Initially played it in 2021 (but save scummed a lot :/ ). Both me as a person, and my understanding of political economy and philosophy have grown quite a bit since then.
I tried replaying it in 2023, but didn’t get very far (mostly due to mental health) Recently my interest in the game rekindled and I’m trying to play as a progressive social democratic superstar hobocop this time lol

I’ve also been getting back into Counter Strike 2 the last few eeks, but it’s taken a major backseat to Disco Elysium (a large factor being: I want to make a deck of Anki flashcards to memorise util lineups of the current map rotation; but I just can’t summon the motivation for it, so it “blocks” me from playing)

Recently booted up DE as well! My first few playthroughs were save-scummy and involved glossing over huge walls of text (especially when encyclopedia speaks). Taking my time now to read and immerse myself in Revachol has been a wonderful experience.

But I’m always save-scumming to get Kim on the dance floor no matter what

Luckily I’ve always kinda seen (at least aspects of it) as an interactive book on steroids, which is why I always read everything lol
But I rly regret save scumming in my first play through, took quite a bit of magic away as in “I’m bending the experience to my will and not enjoying it fully” which I’m trying to remedy now

But ye, it is truly a masterpiece and a wonderful work of art. The experience is just 👌.
The fact that we’ll never get a true successor might just be the most disco thing about it all…

But I’m always save-scumming to get Kim on the dance floor no matter what

“understandable, have a nice day”

I got back into Red Dead Redemption 2. Still debating with myself if I should continue the story or try online.

I just bought it last weekend when it was on sale for like $17. I have to get used to the pacing, it forces you to take everything slowww.

So my friend played through the game 2 times without knowing you can auto ride wagons and your horse to make those segments not so tedious. I think its clicking the left stick down, but its so helpful for those wagon missions.

After watching ManyKidos’ recent video, I’m never touching RDR2 online.

Why? Can you do a short tl:dw for those at work?

Yus! I also spelled his name wrong, it’s ManyKudos. Anyway, he was VERY passionate about RDR2 online, but all of their decisions were extremely lazy and cash-grabby. Now they’re on an indefinite hiatus from any meaningful (or any at all) updates, just years of shitting on the playerbase.

Honestly DMC is not the kind of game made to 100%, is more of a game to quick finish it to get the hang of the mechanics and then replay to get thoses SSS rankings and try to build new combos and playstyles, except DMC2, but we don’t talk about DMC2

(Also no shame in just playing once and then going to the next game, everyone can play any game how they want)

Still wrestling with Blue Prince and still as enthralled with it as I was last week. It’s such a clever, beautiful, unique and interesting game.

I’m finally starting to glimpse the finish line at the horizon now after having been in the endgame for about a week. Still a couple of puzzles left to solve, still a couple of unanswered questions left to investigate but I can feel how close I am now.

God damn it am I going to miss this game once it’s over. Experiences like this don’t come around often. If you like puzzles and mysteries and escape rooms be impatient for once and play this game. It’s extraordinary.

I’m loving Blue Prince although I’m quite bad at it, haha! The aesthetic is quite lovely and soothing just building very bad houses.

Dang it this sounds right up my alley and I really don’t need it right now!

Most games that are thoughtfully crafted I go in blind, read nothing, no reviews, no wiki for help, just explore. Sounds like this game is just made for that? Or do a lot of the puzzles kind of require foreknowledge?

This is certainly a game that is best played blind. Peeling back the mysteries is so rewarding and there is a lot more under the surface than you think at first.

I don’t think there are many puzzles relying on foreknowledge. Most of the puzzles also have clues to be found later, sometimes clues leading to other clues, so if you can’t find a solution to something right away I recommend just moving on for the moment and coming back later, doing other puzzles and investigations in the meantime. Exploring and figuring things out, both in terms of puzzles but also narrative is the whole game so just take it slow. You’re not meant to solve everything in one run, but gradually learning and making progress over time. Contrary to what the intro video suggests there is no time limit, so there is no rush.

Also: take notes. I have filled out like 30 pages of notes at this point. This is a very satisfying game to take notes of, making connections and spotting details.

This is one of those rare Obra Dinn/Outer Wilds type games that only pops up once every couple of years. If you’re into that sort of thing you should absolutely jump on it right away, it’s spectacular.

you should absolutely jump on it right away

I will do exactly that, thank you for the great info :)

Still going through Prince of Persia: Sands of Time from last week - the combat is quite repetitive, though the platforming is as good as I remember so that more than makes up for it!

I can definitely see how Assassins Creed was eventually born from this series.

Kid’s just fallen sick, so I’ll likely STILL be playing this in next week’s thread too - so don’t judge me too harshly - I promise I still have that gamer cred! 😅

Palworld. Just finished Legends Arceus and Legends ZA is too far from being released so I wanted something to scratch the “pokemon but it doesn’t suck” itch.

I’ve been replaying the Pokémon series lately. I’ve finished all games Gen 1-4 and am currently playing through Pokémon X. Gen 5 got put on hold but I’m a couple hours into Black too. I don’t own a switch and haven’t found a decent switch emulator yet so I’m not sure I’ll be able to make it past Gen 7, unless anyone here knows of a good switch emulator and ROM site. My go-to site for ROMs only goes as far as the 3DS

GreemDev’s fork of Ryujinx is pretty good. My R5 5700/RX7600 is able to perfectly emulate SV at 36 fps*. It also runs okay on the Ally X. It mostly stays at 30 fps but stutters hard when showing new animations, like when using a move for the first time.

As for the older Switch titles, I’ve only played Legends Arceus and it runs great on the Ally X. I also tried it on my Ryzen 5 4500U laptop and it runs pretty well over there too, so Let’s Go, SM and SS probably run great as well.

* Why 36 fps? Because the animations in the game are slow as fuck and tied to the framerate so you can’t go any higher unless you use mods but disabling VSYNC and capping it at 36 fps makes it run 20% faster, which is honestly a much better experience.
