So play something else?
They do it because people like you will keep paying from Day 1.
If it’s 120/year and 50/expansion…
How much money have you given them?
When are you going to do what actually matters and stop instead of complaining while giving them thousands of dollars?
A day one player will have spent around $3,650 on just the sub and expansions at this point
You can do both. The fact that they’re so invested and passionate about the game gives them all the more reason to complain. You don’t have to like something unconditionally and be exempt from complaining about practises that make your experience worse. Plus venting is a thing too?
I get where you’re going, tho
Did you post this like a month or two ago? I feel like I’ve seen a similar thread kinda recent-ish.
He definitely did. This is just a points farming account for some reason.
I’m not a farming account lol! Why would I care about points? Are they worth something here?
I was having a weird deja vu moment from this post as well, so I checked and found https://lemmy.world/post/21883518 but seems like the poster deleted the account. Curious
And the very top comment was removed for pointing out that account was very bot like with it’s posting…
And in the meantime OP created their account and makes the same kind of posts…
Huh… Not me but very interesting. I guess I’m not the only one who found this frustrating or annoying. I mean you have to think, it’s a game with over 10 million players so I’m guessing someone else found it frustrating? If this is posted too frequently though, I’ll gladly remove it.
As long as these are just cosmetics, why is this upsetting to you? If the microtransactions turn into pay-to-win, then I agree that would be a problem.
Why would they stop? Players are buying all of it up.
I checked out of Wow a few expansions back, haven’t regretted it yet. I too was a day 1-player but the current game is so far removed from its roots it might as well be another game altogether.
I’ll say basically the same thing as two weeks ago, when this exact topic was posted:
I think you’re looking at this through rose-tinted glasses.
Back in the day you also already had Collectors edition mounts and pets, the stuff from Blizzcon (before it was digital), TCG codes, etc. Not much different than these Mountain Dew promos and whatever else you have.
Why is scalping promo codes bad now, but back in the day it didn’t matter?
difference is now they’re basically product placement, and easily able to hoard by people with money and time to game the system.
Like I said, what’s the difference? You had Coca Cola promotions in the past, when the game was still “pure,” according to some. Why couldn’t people with money hoard those TCG codes back in the day? For me, it’s all the same.
ok, I was not aware of the coke stuff. even so, it’s possible they’re doing much more of it now than in the past.
The in-game shop, definitely, but out-of-game promos, I don’t know. Most of the stuff is US or China exclusive anyway, so you don’t know about them outside those countries.
I’d guess these kinds of promos are kind rare , and that’s the reason this one blew up so much. If WoW had something like this every few months, most people probably wouldn’t care anymore, and only those who want to collect everything will pay someone to get the codes.
The peak of my WoW time was Wrath of the Lich King. Then, eventually some bootleg free Cataclysm servers popped up and I gave that a try for a bit. It was jenky, but Free is free.
I’m really curious to see how much has changed over the decades, but I don’t have the time or money to dip my toes into that again.
Sounds like you should reconsider how you spend your life on earth.
It’s not crazy when you know that the first micro transaction mount the $15 “Celestial Steed” made more money than StarCraft 2. WoW is a theme park like experience and now it’s being run like any other carnival or Disney World. The game is designed to bogart your time so now the owners of the game want to squeeze every penny from you while they have your attention. You’re right about WoW changing, but you also said that you were a day one player. I’m going to guess you’ve also changed and grown over the decades, neither of you are the same. Maybe it’s time to start finding another place to hang out in.
Sincerely, A Former Troll Priest
