It actually baffles me that someone designed that ult. If he could eat one person it’s already strong but the fact he can literally CC an entire team for like 10 seconds especially with how overtime works is just plain stupid.

The multiplayer also works no problem without Steam. I own the game on Steam and I did a playthrough with friends who torrented it. They just had to keep the patches up to date manually.

On the bright side I would much rather see a Divinity Original Sin 3 than a Baldur’s Gate 4 from Larian. Now they are free to do their own thing again.

Interesting. I’ve been rooted and running custom ROMs for a decade at this point and have never had an issue with banking apps.

No it works perfectly fine with a mod for uncapped FPS

Seriously, fuck HDMI. I just recently learned they’ve blocked AMD’s open source driver from being able to implement HDMI 2.1 meaning AMD GPUs are currently limited to 4K@60Hz over HDMI on Linux.

BG3 was/is also filled to the brim with bugs. Look at the dozens of patches that have come out. It released blatantly unfinished.

Getting downvoted for sharing your personal experience. What a classic.

I loved most of the game but I also experienced a TON of bugs. Although for me Act 1 was pretty much fine and the bugs slowly ramped up as I went through the game. I can give some of them a pass for how big the game is, but for others it is baffling they released the game in such a state.

Just look at the dozens of patches that have come out for it. Those wouldn’t exist if the game was actually polished before it launched.

Do you think Rockstar is omniscient?

Seriously. There is actually zero way Rockstar would ever know even if you outright stole some of the code unless you were to admit it. And definitely not if you got some inspiration from it.

The derivative code will get compiled. What are they going to do, pick apart the machine code from every game released from now on to see if it somehow matches a chunk from GTA? And then somehow track down and prove that one of the probably dozens of employees who worked on the game looked at this leaked source code? Good luck with that.

This tracks with my experience using Unity in the past. They like to add a bunch of half-baked new features while simultaneously deprecating old ones that worked fine. Which means you have to choose between using a “worse” feature you know will no longer be supported or using a “better” feature that’s not fully finished yet. When your release window is 2+ years out it is really hard to make that decision.

And they do it directly in their stable builds and label individual features as “beta” rather than keeping them in a separate beta branch which is remarkably stupid. It makes them seem like the features are ready for production when they’re clearly not.

If you’re dense enough to think saying you value something at $0 and then still enjoying it like the other people willing to support the IP, then you’re an asshole.

This isn’t even a coherent sentence. But I’m assuming you mean I’m an asshole for enjoying something without paying when other people do pay? Except if I enjoy something I do pay for it. Just because I don’t think people should own ideas doesn’t mean I don’t support creators when I enjoy something.

If you force that transaction by stealing their idea and efforts, you’re being a thief. What you use to justify your actions is up to you, but you’re a thief nonetheless.

And no, by law I am not a thief. A thief is someone who commits theft, and theft is “the felonious taking and removing of personal property with intent to deprive the rightful owner of it.” Copyright infringement does not deprive the owner of it, it is simply a copy. At least in the United States where I live copyrighted works are not considered stolen property. You can call me an asshole if you want but by definition I am no thief.

you are robbing the creator of what the item is valued at

If I value the item at $0 then I have robbed them of $0.

why wouldn’t I just get a copy of a game, underpriced it, and sell it as cheap as I wanted?

We already do that. It is called piracy. We take it and sell it for as cheap as we want ($0).

the value of the currency is deflated by those actions because there’s nothing stopping everyone from from just adding millions to their accounts

I don’t care if the value of IP is deflated. I already believe it to be zero so that doesn’t change anything. Ideas should be free to be shared.

And before you say something like, “then nothing new will ever get made” just remember you are on Lemmy. The developers make it because they want to, not because of the money. People can still make things without profit incentive. In fact I think the world would be a much better place if we had less creations focused on making money and were left with only creators who are driven by passion rather than profit.

It’s not mental gymnastics. Why is it so hard to believe that people genuinely don’t believe in intellectual property? It has nothing to do with “sticking it to the man.” I just do not believe in IP, full stop.

And piracy is not stealing, it is making a copy. When you steal a physical item the original owner is deprived of that item. When you copy something the original “owner” still has access to it.

Not everyone thinks the same way you do. In fact you sound like a terrible person if you genuinely believe that what you’re doing is wrong but you’re doing it anyway.

You are being intentionally obtuse. It’s not that the thing itself literally does not exist at all, it’s that the ownership of ideas is not real. When you steal a physical item the original owner is deprived of that item. When you copy an idea the original “owner” still has access to it.

I’m going to assume you’re in the Netherlands because of feddit.nl. The 6650XT that I mentioned earlier is €247 on amazon.nl while the Series X is €539. And the 6700XT is €349. That’s €200 less for the 6700XT and €300 less for the 6650XT. And that’s just Amazon-- I’m sure there are used options on sites I’m not going to know about. And again assuming you are using the console for 5 years the real cost is €539 + €300 = €839. You can definitely build a better PC for that much.

EDIT: Here you go. A decent gaming PC with performance that should roughly be on-par with consoles for €593 which is less than the price of the Series X + 1 year of Xbox Live (€599). And this is with all new parts. I usually recommend going used for everything but storage, but I wouldn’t know if ebay is good or what the alternative is for you.

The point isn’t how good they look, the point is that it’s not actually 4K. You can run your PC games at 1080p on a 4K screen and get the same experience. That’s what DLSS and FSR are already doing. And if both are $500 it’s not a fraction of the price it’s the same price. Actually over time PC is cheaper because you’re not paying $60/year for online.

After 5 years your $500 console actually cost $800. That’s $300 you could have spent on more games or on a stronger GPU that can maybe actually run higher resolutions or higher framerates. At the end of the day consoles are the illusion of a good value. It is smoke and mirrors.

The Series X and the PS5 are both roughly around the performance of a 6700XT, possibly lower depending on where you look. Any “4K” that is happening is upscaling. Most games run on the equivalent of low or medium settings, use dynamic resolution, checkerboard rendering, or for big games like Starfield or Elden Ring will run at 30fps.

What do you mean too expensive? While the higher-end GPUs are still ridiculous, you can find something like the 6650XT for ~$200 and that is more than enough for 1080p gaming. Meanwhile SSDs and RAM are at an all-time low price because of how cheap NAND flash is. Throw in a previous gen Ryzen 5 or i5 for ~$100 and you could easily build a competent gaming PC for $500. Plus you don’t have to pay the $60/year tax for online and get access to Steam sales and mods. And torrents if you’re into that.

It’s also one of the funniest games I’ve ever played. There are so many moments where I fully burst out laughing. The game absolutely rules.

In games where you spend a lot of time in coversations it makes sense. Fallout New Vegas is one of my favorite games but if you do nothing but max Speech it turns into easy mode.

but the whole steam client? has always been vgui, not electron cef. just because there is reference to chromium in the commit log doesn’t mean the whole thing’s built in chromium.

The “whole client” hasn’t been VGUI. Yes now every element is CEF but many, many pieces have been CEF for a very long time. “Switched over to Electron” implies it was entirely changed but it’s just using more of the thing it was already using. Those are two different things.

it’s not just me who has performance issues. at one point it was everyone on linux with an nvidia gpu

The issue you linked had nothing to do with Steam it was a bug with the Nvidia driver itself. Not sure what that’s supposed to prove.

my point was that i never had issues with vgui, and now i do.

And my point is that is not an inherent problem with Steam, that is something specific to your configuration. If it runs fine for other people it can run fine for you. I’m on Arch with an Nvidia GPU. I have zero issues with the performance.

particularly now that steam has switched over to electron, so the client runs like shit

It uses CEF not Electron, which it has used for over 13 years. This isn’t something they just added. If it’s running slow for you you probably have an issue with hardware acceleration.

I maybe be wrong but I think they just fixed the NPCs running away in the latest patch. One of the patch notes is, “NPCs will no longer run away from anything but the Dark Urge Slayer form to improve interactivity and flow.” I’m not sure if that is referring to Dark Urge only or if that means they exclusively run away from that one form and now all other summons are fair game. But I haven’t had time to jump back into the game to try it yet.

There is actually a quest where you need to escort an NPC and when we got to the boss the NPC cowers in fear and tries to run away. But because I had an elemental summoned he would run towards the boss and instantly die. At first I just thought that was how it was supposed to be but after defeating the boss 3 times I thought it was way too hard to keep the NPC alive and it didn’t really make any sense for him to run straight in after dialogue saying he doesn’t want to go in there. The quest/dialogue also acted like he was still alive so it’s as if the developers never even planned for the possibility of him dying in that area. On my 4th attempt I moved the elemental in front of the door and sure enough he ran the opposite direction and stood in the corner he was supposed to, safe from the fight.

Part of it is the game just being so huge. Most people aren’t even going to hit Act 3 until 50-60 hours in which is already much longer than most other games. So you’ve already formed your opinion of the game by the time you hit the less polished part.

And to be fair, those first 50-60 hours are pretty great. (Minus some gripes with things like pathing and inventory management) If the game just straight up ended with Act 2 I would be completely satisfied. I didn’t even mention this because I wanted to focus on the bugs but even narrative, pacing, and quest design in Act 3 is just so rough compared to the other two. It almost feels like a different game or a different developer. The quality drop is that drastic IMO.

I am worried that other studios might look at this and realize they can just front-load the best content and all the polish in the first section and neglect the rest to fix later. It sets a bad precedent.

I am talking strictly on the basis of bugs/incompleteness not the overall quality/scope of the games. But also “it barely ran on PCs” neither did Act 3. I have a 7950X and I still drop down to 40fps in some places even after the patches. People with say a 3600X were barely scraping 30. If we’re talking about the trend of games being unfinished or buggy on launch then BG3 deserves to be called out for the same.

It’s funny that you mention Baldur’s Gate 3 because the game is blatantly unfinished. Act 1&2 are pretty much 9-10/10 but Act 3 is like a 6/10 at best. I’m surprised it gets a pass where Cyberpunk didn’t because in my experience they are equally as buggy. Because of my beefy PC and the scope of the games I think Cyberpunk may have even had less bugs than I’ve had in BG3. And I played it on release.

In BG3 I have quests breaking, characters not showing up where they should, continuity issues, obvious cut content, etc. I just gave up halfway through Act 3 and started a new playthrough instead because I adore the first half of the game and it makes the latter half that much more disappointing by contrast.

I haven’t played it myself (yet) but apparently Divinity Original Sin 2 was similar and the “Definitive Edition” that came about a year later fixed Act 3. So I hope the same thing happens for BG3.

Microsoft has bought up both Obsidian and Bethesda so it is technically possible for them to make another Fallout game. But at the same time they already announced Outer Worlds 2, and I’m not even sure the key people are necessarily still around.

You probably haven’t gotten to Act 3 yet, the game is extremely CPU bound. I have a Ryzen 9 7950X and while Act 1 and 2 were basically locked to 144fps the entire time, in Act 3 I have seen dips down to the 40s.

Double Agent was actually great, but the only way to play the true one (IMO) is on Xbox, PlayStation 2, GameCube, or Wii. This version was made by Ubisoft Montreal who developed the first game and Chaos Theory. It is at the same quality level as those two.

The version of Double Agent for the 360, PS3, and PC was developed by Ubisoft Shanghai who also did Pandora Tomorrow. Like you said it is okay, but it is pretty blatantly different from the other ones. Different engine, different vibes in general, and honestly just inferior in most ways.

GPUs are at pretty reasonable prices if you buy used. The 3060 Ti is $237 and it beats the 4060.

You’re right. And even disregarding always online and/or GaaS elements if it’s anything like the other two PAYDAY games there is pretty much no reason to play it offline. It is a co-op game through and through.
