A Wild Mimic appears!

Ah yes, the famously communist Russian Federation. The RF is nakedly an imperial fascist regime that doesn’t even have communist window dressing, it boggles the mind that self-proclaimed communists and anti-imperialists support them.

Right now i play “A Game about digging a Hole”. I feel very dwarfy rn.

I’m happy to see that all around the games industry and the surrounding areas like game journalism the value of unions is rediscovered. Work to rule is very effective against these insidious tactics of one layoff round after another while announcing record profits, because if noone cares that work piles up because of not enough hands, it hurts the owners in the only way they understand - in their finances.

This greedy thinking of only next quarter’s numbers must end.

There’s a distinctive difference between american evangelists and other christian groups, for starters that the evangelists have been integrated in the state-religion the USA has been running at least since the cold war., and they are actively utilized by the Republicans. This also means that those evangelists believe that in the US white nationalists should be in power.

Please note that the “christian” part in this has gone pretty far from any christian roots - it’s for the most part just utilized to identify the in-group and to radicalize members. The quip “Y’all qaeda” comes pretty close to the truth - they are just as radical and socially regressive as any other islamic sect that would use terror to achieve their goals.

The review does sound pretty dope tho, like a mixture of dishonored, disco elysium and enhanced telltale-game. like you i will keep my expectations low, but what i read in the hands-on review sounded better than expected from a game that has been through dev-hell and back.

I mean the discovery queue is pretty much on point except for the blockbusters they insert “because they are popular”. I don’t care whats popular, i care about what i like, roguelike indies and metroidvanias for example.

“There were more sports cars in the parking lot in the PS1 era than there were in the PS4 era, …"

dude, fuck you, your parking lot and i wish that giant acme anvils drop on every fucking sports car you’ll ever own.

  1. Prey 2016 - I love the designs, the art, the story, the lonely feeling in space, the soundtrack (Mick Gordon!).
  2. Nier Automata - The only game that ever made me cry - multiple times. Great Soundtrack too!
  3. Grim Dawn - for me personally the best ARPG ever made, and they are working on a new expansion, after all this time!

Edit: Honorable Mentions: x) Fallout NV, but i can’t be arsed to mod it AGAIN, and vanilla is too buggy, so currently no NV for me x) Dragon Age - Origins: played this through on the Xbox 360 3 times! x) Dead Cells: i wish i were young enough for the reflexes needed to get to 5 boss cells. Doesn’t stop me from trying, tho!

Don’t know about the X3D chips, but my 3070 TI is running flawlessly under Nobara (a Fedora flavor) - a few months ago there has been a huge boost in stability with the support of explicit sync.

I loved it and played against my little brother on one keyboard constantly, that was fun!

Too bad that the follow-up game went through developer hell, took ages and looked and played like shit :-(

it doesn’t even stop there - it will be used to punish people who do not exactly like it’s expected, with the mere accusation of playing/reading/watching/thinking something “unchristian” as reason.

this is not simply a petition, it’s a tool for bringing issues in front of the eu parliament, which has to address it. it’s a kinda new thing, and untested, but it looks pretty functional for now. also, Nicolae Ștefănuță, vice president of the eu parliament, has openly supported this citizens initiative.

not all countries are as dysfunctional as the US, and i’m sorry for you that your government sucks ass. But if this works, it will be positive for every gamer worldwide, so maybe you get to enjoy more consumer protection than before.

i know that it’s configured as a D-pad by default, but it’s missing haptic feedback - there’s not enough of an indicator where on the touchpad your finger rests, and if you lose the central position, have fun finding it again without looking. i often tried it. but it’s simply inadequate as a D-pad.

I agree that not including the D-Pad was a bad move, but if you play games that use the d-pad just for functions like map or switching of equipment, there was the option to use the trackpad like a weapon wheel where you could define i think 8 functions with OSD, and using one of the back buttons made that 16 functions you could define freely - you could replace the hotkeys of a game that used half the keyboard with this thing lol

for everyone who has an issue with the 30 minuted per run: later on you can speed up the game, so each round is down to 15 minutes.

Dead Island 2 is free on Epic currently, and probably more fun than Borderlands 4; BL 3 wasn’t written well, and i assume the same for BL 4. A shame, BL2 i one of my most played FPS

Nintendo has been at it for the last 30 years, here are landmark lawsuites lists, from my memory everything relevant has been listed.

https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Legal_status_and_history_of_emulation#Nintendo

And there are a few points why they are so active, first and foremost the IP law in Japan, which says (paraphrased) that IP that is not defended is fair game for everyone; then there is the technological fact that emulation of their systems is pretty easy performancewise nowadays in comparison to the naughts; and then there is the thing that if the few titles that are exclusives to nintendos system can easily played on other platforms (where they don’t see a dime), they will not be able to sell their hardware and therefore no games that are available on other platforms. Also, they have always stepped up their game when a new hardware generation comes out - can’t have people emulating the old platform when there’s new stuff to buy, ya see?

I await the day when someone at nintendo starts using his calculator and recognizes that selling their back catalogue games at 7,99 per game on pc and 10 bucks on all the other platforms would ensure a steady flow of income for much needed innovation; the switch is nice, but i can’t see where the switch 2 is a product that shows enough difference to the switch1 for massive sales.

I disagree on the premise that a rock cannot be used for much. I mean, the available actions for a rock ARE pretty limited, but it can be used in a variety of ways!

Publicly traded companies are detrimental to the health of the (gaming) ecosystem. A Titanfall game would have been a financial and cultural net positive for sure - maximizing for profit means losing out on everything else.

about 5500$ in 20 years, so

edit: i’ve gotta remind myself to not fall asleep while commenting

first, i was shocked seeing the amount, then i calculated the daily costs, which were around 0,60€, and was relieved.

If you want an alternative to Slay the Spire i can recommend Monster Train; you mainly summon different Hellspawn and cast spells, which gives it more of an Magic the Gathering feel.

If you want an ARPG fix and have thumb buttons on your mouse you can try Chronicon, don’t let the gfx stop you, it’s an excellent hack&slash game, and you can put all your skills onto 1 button if you like - i use the middle and the right button for most builds and thumb keys for pots

If you want a new spin on Darkest Dungeon, give Iratus - Lord of the Dead a try. Or if you played a lot of Darkest Dungeon and want more of it, try Black Reliquary, a huge (and free!) mod with a lot of new mechanics!

Going into the same direction as Into the Breach is Shotgun King - the final Checkmate. It’s really fun and the higher difficulties really make your brains work out. Workshop support with lots of extra content included! Also great for Turn-based Tactics is Invisible Inc., putting you in control of an spy agency which has been hit hard and tries to recover.

For arcade games i can recommend Utopia must fall - it really captures the spirit of old arcade games, but feels real fresh. You can also go for Nova Drift, which is also an excellent arcade game.

Then there is Cultist Simulator and its spiritual successor, Book of Hours. It’s basically a card based riddle game, and very atmospheric.

There is always Shattered Pixel Dungeon - it is also available on Steam or Gog, but you can download and play it for free from the link i provided.

I think your collarbone might have healed until you’ve finished that list, have fun!

I still have 2 Steam Controllers and 3 Steam Links at home, one of the Links and one Controller are for streaming media to my TV from my PC (the rest are spares). I very much like the Controllers for Desktop use, but they aren’t great for classic twin stick games. They excel at stuff like RTS, FPS and Simulations tho!

I remember playing this a few years ago on my pc, it was really fun, good to see you enjoying it too :-) I remember expecting it to be utter trash, since most games based on movie licences are, but was positively surprised.

The water rating is fun :-) i had a phase where i collected screenshots of rats in computer games, it was interesting how different they looked!

I fully agree and just wand to add my suspicion that people in the Apple ecosystem are a pretty tough crowd to sell a Resident Evil title to begin with. Most gamers I know would never buy an Apple PC if they have a choice, and the overlap between “serious” gaming and Android is probably a lot stronger.

(I hear a faint echo of “Don’t you guys have phones?” in this.)

I’m not the one asked, but since i am owner of an old ass myself i’ll chip in. My solution would be to reduce the desktop resolution if desktop readability is the problem. 4k is probably not the resolution you are gaming at? even if you do, you can just select a lower desktop resolution and crank it up when gaming (if the game supports scaling). other than that i can only recommend using magnification tools for the desktop and i don’t think there are any solutions for games that don’t bring their own scaling.

for my part, i use steams big picture mode as uion the tv, which works on any resolution.

i already use heroic, but my issue is that there is nothing where i can add ALL games regardless of source; in playnite i was able to add everything from amiga 500 games over ps2 games to current pc games, with great costumisation, integration of steamgriddb, addition of pcgameswiki links, the ability to start scripts and programs at the launch and the end of the game, is well controllable by gamepad (heroics gamepad support works, but where your selection jumps if you press up or down is a bit of a mystery; and pressing b to return to your library after looking at a game places you cursor somewhere not clearly defined, not to the last selection.) and offers a huge selection of plugins.

I want to add here my deeply missed Playnite. There is nothing under Linux that comes close. I’ve settled for the combination of steam, heroic and lutris, but that is not even close for sure.

I’m running Nobara, so the basics like wine, Nvidia drivers … are already set up OOTB. There are multiple ways, but i like the way Lutris does it:

  • Click on “Add a game”
  • Select “Install Windows Game from an executable”
  • give it a name, if you use the name identifier as it is used on lutris.net you get the box art automatically
  • click through, select install/prefix directory, select setup.exe file
  • install as normal, install on the c: drive (only thing to note is if the game is using stuff like .net or vc runtimes then don’t install them and just remember which ones you will need)
  • If runtimes are needed: run “winetricks” to add those, if you want to install patches: use “run exe inside wine prefix” (both are in the menu next to the Windows-logo Button)
  • Play Game

Heroic Launcher’s installation is a bit more streamlined, but i found Lutris can do more stuff - i don’t know if i would have managed to mod my (owned) Battletech installation (BTA3062) so easily with Heroic. (involved setting a bunch of Envvars and dll overrides)

If any of those who pirate PC games are reading here: for now all my pillaged goods are working fine on Steam Deck and on Desktop Linux.

Grim Dawn (currently playing Community Season 7! check it out @ https://grimdawnleague.com/, Dead Cells and Terraria (and most of that time unmodded - i just love building cozy or not so cozy homes).

Nier Automata, Cyberpunk, System Shock 2, GTA Vice City, Doom 2016 (I cannot listen to Eternals soundtrack knowing how Mick Gordon got ripped off there)

I switched to Nobara a few weeks ago and gaming isn’t really an issue. I still have to get Cyberpunk running when heavily modded tho. The Xbox Cloud Gaming app is available through an Electron PWA using Lutris: https://lutris.net/games/xbox-cloud-gaming/

Since i’m a sucker for weird games and very bad at following simple rules i wishlisted your new game lol
