Hello, my name is Cris. :)
I like being nice to people on the internet and looking at cool art stuff
I was gonna reccomend splatoon 3 but its a switch game that’s primarily online multiplayer matches, and while you can absolutely play it with sticks only it REALLY shines brightest with motion controls (yes, really. Motion control for fps aiming is amazing), but lots of people do play with purely analog sticks for aim.
Probably not quite what you’re looking for, but it does have a single player story and a really cool looking rougelite/roguelike mode, though I haven’t played the latter. And then it also has an online cooperative mode.
Splatoon is a really unique movement shooter where shooting or attacking leaves colorful ink on the ground, which you can then swim in for mobility, health regen, and refilling your ink tank (your ammo). The enemy (in single or multiplayer) leaves their own ink color that slows you down, stops you from swimming, and slowly damages you when you’re standing in it.
The result is a really interesting, fast paced fps about controlling space effectively and out maneuvering your opponent with a wide variety of weapons all with their own playstyles- the unique weapons are a huge highlight of the game

Yeah thats very fair. My impression is that Draynos hacks are usually not brutal, but there’s no version that doesn’t patch difficulty so if you like the challenges you either play with higher difficulty or you pick a different patch
I want more vanilla+, so I’m usually a tad bummed about that, but people regard his hacks really highly, even if theyre less what I’m looking for :)
I hope you find the right one for you! ☺️

Hey, I was researching my options for gen 5 and found this very helpful thread (though I don’t know that it’s entirely complete):
and this option from the thread, which is compatible with following platinum if you wanted quality of life, plus your pokemon following you :) (frankly I really wish I had played this instead 😅)
https://www.pokecommunity.com/threads/platinumqol-now-compatible-with-following-platinum.465574/
and following platinum https://pokehacking.com/fangames/following-platinum/
I think I was mistaken that renegade is compatible with following platinum, here’s it’s page if you’re interested in something that makes more changes and adjusts the difficulty curve :)

Honestly I largely did too, I pick my favorite designs from each gen and make a team with them, but it worked out okay! I considered chimecho but I mostly just adore chingling and it’s way too weak to battle with. I also considered using trash wormadan; steel and bug are my favorite types, but it’s not that compelling of a design, and it’s not very good 😅. I’d love to include it on a team someday though

The fact that you get locked into combat as soon as you step into the room with her (unlike all the elite four) nearly completely fucked me over, but fortunately I was able to stall and item spam all my Pokémon back to full health 😅
I tend to really like building teams that can beat stuff a lot stronger than me, so curse on spirit tomb, toxic on toxicroak, and gastrodon and bastiodon to wall did a lot of work 😅 I think I used curse to beat like three of her strongest Pokémon lol. Its such a dumb move, I love it so much.
It was definitely hard though, and item spam is kind of a cheesy way to beat stuff

This is my first playthrough with most of these games, so I’m tending to pick stuff thats very vanilla+ or just focused on quality of life, to cut down on some of the tedium and frustration that Pokémon often comes with
I’m not sure if I’ve maybe played one of his hacks so far, but I wish he had patches that didn’t make the difficulty changes and stuff if I don’t want them, I think he usually hasn’t had that as an option
I still need to sit down and investigate what if any ROM hacks I might wanna pick for gen 5, his will be one I take a look at. Plus I need to go double check which games I was gonna play, I think I was planning black and white 2, but have to go look stuff up and ask my friend who’s a huge Pokémon nerd her thoughts
(I nearly broke my run with a cheat to give myself max TMs at the end cause I think the game is better when you can play with designing your team- the cheat overwrote all of my HMs without me realizing, and I deleted waterfall off my Pokémon who knew it. Off the top of her head she was just like “oh seaking learns it by level up at 40 if that helps”, I was so glad I mentioned to her I might have fucked myself over completely on a whim while texting lol. So I have a seaking named escalator now 😌)

I really like really like the names Macarona and V
That sounds like a blast! I’m not a super competitively knowledgeable player, this was actually my first platinum playthrough. Technically I started black or white when I was a kid, but I burned out and set the game down pretty quickly. I love Pokémon on paper but find a lot of the gameplay a bit tedious honestly 😅 I play mostly cause I fall in love with the Pokémon designs and the games are how you get to engage with them. Battleing is fun though.
I had fun using curse and stalling my way through the elite four though lol. Except the fire guy, garchomp with earthquake one-shot all of his Pokémon which was kinda funny 😅

The ROM hack I’m playing is just following platinum. I don’t remember what quality of life changes there are, but it adds your Pokémon waking behind you like in HG SS
This is my first play through, so I wanted something focused on quality of life stuff, or that could be described as vanilla+
https://pokehacking.com/fangames/following-platinum/
(Having looked at the link now I don’t think it adds any quality of life stuff, and I just REALLY wanted my Pokémon to follow me. I think renegade might have a version based on following platinum though? It makes more changes like difficulty though)

Yeah, this is definitely a broken corporate system issue rather than a nefarious plot. Google takes down, demonitizes, and issues trikes for all kinds of bogus shit, their system is so incapable of nuance that “nuance” isn’t even the right word anymore. There’s no evil scheme to silence self hosting, just a horrible, miserably dysfunctional content moderation system that regularly trashes peoples livelihoods if it comes anywhere near prohibited topics.
If the mistake causes a big enough problem they cares about, like bad publicity via a large channel complaining, they’ll probably fix it after a whole protracted mess of a situation. But if it doesn’t cause a problem for them it doesn’t get fixed. They just really suck at handling the scale of content they host.
And I might empathize that it’s a hard thing to do, if they weren’t an effective monopoly and a horrible company.

You might like the indie wiki buddy extension, it can automatically redirect you to a independent wiki when you go to fandom (if there is one), remove fandom search results, and redirect you to a ‘breeze wiki’ page if there’s no fandom alternative
(Breeze wiki is an alternative frontend for fandom, much like invidious for YouTube. It guts all the ads and banners and garbage, and gives you a much simpler wiki page)
The creator of Fortune’s Run, who goes by Dizzie on Steam, announced Tuesday night that her past had caught up with her. “I’ve been sentenced to prison for the next 3 years,” she wrote on the game’s Steam page. “It’s a long story, but I’ve lived a very different life before I was a game developer, and I wasn’t living very well. My case is about 5 years old now, I have been going through the legal process the whole time I’ve been working on this. I have finally been found guilty and sentenced, and I’m going away next month.”
“It’s a shame, but it’s the consequences of my actions,” the developer continued. “I was a very violent person and I hurt a lot of people in my life. Unfortunately, the sentence isn’t going to help with that at all, but I guess we all know that. So the game isn’t TOTALLY dead, but unfortunately due to even further bad things happening, it’s unclear what will happen.”
:(

I’d heard the story was kind of a letdown (I don’t have hardware I can play 3 on, so I haven’t gotten to it yet) so I’m really just hoping the story gets the focus and effort it needs; 1 & 2 had really excellent writing and story design and it feels like a huge loss for the series if they can’t find that again
Nothing does :(
Beeper is built on matrix and uses a bridge to RCS, so I’ve thought of using that in place of Google messages, but you have to link it with Google messages, so it doesn’t really help me with escaping Google
Google are assholes and refuse to actually build an open standard that can replace SMS

Huh, thanks for the advice!
I have very poor working memory so thinking about words, and trying to remember letters, and thinking about how long they are, all at once, kinda fries my brain pretty quickly 😅 but I have a much easier time with the lateral thinking and word reasoning of connections
I’ll keep your advice in mind if I give the wordle clones a shot, or am playing sometime in the future post-strike!
Hope you have a good one 😊

I saw someone share this earlier today also as another option!
Periodic reminder in light of the #nyt strike that #wordle started life as a free, vanilla javascript website with no DRM and not owned by the nyt, and I packed it into a single html file that you can download and run offline or from any site, like this: https://jon-e.net/wordle.html
https://neuromatch.social/@jonny/113426201830722841 (link to the mastodon tweet quoted above)
If anyone has an alternative for the connections game I really liked that one :)
Syncthing-fork seems to still be under active development

Syncthing-fork still seems to be under active development, at least for the time being
https://f-droid.org/packages/com.github.catfriend1.syncthingandroid/
I’m surprised you’re the only person talking about syncthing-fork and that it’s not the top comment, it’s the only android client I’ve actually used
https://f-droid.org/packages/com.github.catfriend1.syncthingandroid/
Here’s the f-droid repo for folks who might prefer to get it that way
Huh… Yeah that is odd, “or” probably would have been more helpful 😅
Or two separate lists, since controller being preferred probably does generally come with controller support
