A game being developed by Ready at Dawn for Ubisoft was met with odd demands about the protagonist, according to the studio's co-founder.

This is about an old game for PSP, somewhere between 2008-2010. Devs used the escape clause in the contract to leave it during early stage, so the game was never made.

God the entire point is that it shouldn’t matter. Executives forcing one thing or the other is what is making everyone hate both forces male and forced “woke” characters. Just let the freaking creatives do their job and stop having some committee decide for them. It makes the stories so freaking awkward.

If the story makes sense, I don’t care. Let the creators make the characters they want and stop pushing agendas at all. If they want to make the queerest game let them. If they want a male protag, who cares. Executives are not creatives. (Neither are the panels of people they put in charge of market research either)

Reminds me of a joke I heard about Concord.

“Our marketing team was heavily involved in the making of our character designs”
“I can tell”

executives don’t give a fuck about anything except money. with a male hero you’re still getting the handful of girl gamers’ money, but with a woman hero you’re losing the wish-i-was-a-tough-guy boy gamers who are so insecure they literally can’t play a game as a woman character because their simple minds interpret that as “play woman character = i am literally a woman now = weak.”

yea, it’s fucking stupid, but that’s what’s happening. it’s the same ridiculous nonsense with non-white, non-straight characters

And with a male protagonist you lose all the “I don’t want to stare at a guy’s ass for an entire game” demographic.

That definitely sounds like usual Ubisoft meddling. Hell, at that time Guillemot’s good friend Hascoet must have been in full directing power, shitting all over the Assassin’s Creed creative team’s decisions. While the company protected his sexual and moral harassment gig.

I can’t care less about Ubisoft being sold to whoever. Guillemot and his asshole clique don’t deserve shit.

Okay? Just make a good game, I dont think the main characters gender is really that important.

Though to be fair, the market is flooded with female main characters right now and with upcoming games, so I do appreciate the variety. Still, its an Ubisoft game and I probably wasnt going to buy it anyway.
