That game is an asset flip for sure. Just another AI scam game, of which we will see thousands and thousands of in the coming years. Developers history is just red flags all over.
This feels like a reference to that article that dropped yesterday making the same claims based on nothing but anecdotes, suppositions, and Twitter threads.
The game is fun. If this is a scam then it’s doing far too much work trying to be a full game
I spent HOURS flying around exploring a map that never seems to end. I found more than enough shit to do while exploring.
As you said, if it were an asset flip scam, its doing it wrong.
You can fly?!? Man, an here i was collecting all the land pals to slither on. Oh man, exploring is going to be so much easier now
There’s aquatic pals too for fast swimming and multiple types of glider pals focusing on stuff like hovering or speedy forward movement. It’s pretty ok. 😁
I suggest you watch someone playing it on twitch for 30m. Or watch a letsplay on YouTube.
It doesn’t seem like an asset flip. It’s heavily inspired by other games, and picks the best parts.
It’s feature complete (certainly up to level 30, haven’t seen beyond that) and plays well. Very few bugs, mostly just jank geometry in the gigantic map.
I’ve seen some enemies around level 38 or so, some areas are very unfinished but it’s kind of crazy that a new early access game has this much content.
I remember when Grounded came out on early access and had like 30 minutes of content + the starting area only.
I have, it’s dry. It’s a ‘as wide as an ocean, as deep as a puddle’ kind of game.
The devs couldn’t even finish their previous game, it’s sketchy.
Even if all the art was an asset flip, the underlying game has good mechanics and satisfying gameplay. People don’t play for hours straight even if a game is gorgeous is the game is boring.
i stand with you, my very downvoted brother. granted i’ve seen like 7 minutes total of gameplay, but it just seems like another “build base, do resource chores” game with some very reddit “dude what if you could SHOOT pokémon⁉️” sprinkled on top
Most of the survival bits are automated by your
slavesworker pals, so its mainly about the exploration and pal caching. Maybe you should give it a try.that sounds better than my prejudice made me guess :) i’ll watch more streams of it to get a better feel for it. thank you
Genuinely, people are shitting on it because it sells itself on a meme, is made by a dev with shady history, and likely has its creature designs aided strongly by an AI model trained on Pokemon.
With all that in mind, it punches WAY above its weight class. There’s shockingly little jank for an early access game this massive (it legitimately feels like a complete game worth paying for right now), the designs look super derivative but they’re nearly as well executed as the original Pokemon that inspired them so I’m still falling in love with everything I see, and the uniquely dark way they handle the subject matter gives it some sense of danger to the journey without getting in the way of critter companionship people seek out in a Pokemon game. I honestly can’t find much to fault at all. And any concerns that it won’t get future updates to smooth out rough edges, add more options and content are nuts, IMO. With the momentum this game has going, no chance the dev pulls out before making good on promises.
I wouldn’t say that anything Palworld is doing is groundbreaking on its own. Most critters feel like Pokemon parts and colors reassembled into new combinations. Exploration is a jankier clone of BOTW. The environment is way nicer looking and more interesting than anything from the last few Pokemon games but that’s hardly a high bar. Survival mechanics are uninspired. Base mechanics and managing active pals are pretty similar to Cult of the Lamb. But the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
The designs are a ripoff but the elements are so heavily lifted that I’m not sure it’s AI generated.

Look at these comparisons and look at some of the shared qualities, it’s most noticeable for the eyes and mouth.
AI wouldn’t copy-paste like that, it would meld them. The comparisons look a bit more like an artist took some a pokemon, changed the animal type and color palette and called it a day lol
I’m with you. Even after checking out gameplay and everything. It just seems like lots of low effort shit jammed together.
Have you played it though? Most people seem to be having a blast with it.
No need. I play a lot of games in that genre, and if I have the urge, I’ll dive back into one of them. The game is being pushed very hard for whom it came from. It feels very artificial to me. I’m perfectly happy missing out on what I’m told is the new hot shit. I’ll decide what’s hot shit on my own.
Sure, but you are criticizing a game you haven’t played.
I’ve seen the ads and watched quill18 play for awhile. I stand by what I said because I saw it with my own eyes. No need to spend a cent on that game.
I played their previous game and was 100% sure this game was going to not be as great as advertised judging by their previous work.
I was 100% wrong. There is no connection between the quality of their previous game and this one. It’s been so freaking good for an EA game from these devs…
I’m actually convinced craftopia was a test bed for tech they needed to make this game and they just decided to sell it to fund future development. I definitely don’t mind because craftopia was fun for a while as well
Cool, i hope we get more great games like that i. The future.
