A Short Hike is a great little platformer you can finish in a couple hours.

Super Mario RPG is a classic and can be squeezed into 10 hours if you rush, but probably closer to 12~15.

McDonald’s outsells the google 5-star rated gourmet burger place down the street from me, doesn’t mean I’m gonna eat it.

yes it does.

what trouble are you having with FF’s scroll? it’s worked perfectly fine on every device I’ve ever seen, you sure it’s not a problem with your setup?

Must be living a pretty sheltered life if this is “nightmare inducing”

Yes, there it is, as it should be.

I say this as a man with a wife from Beijing and a son that holds a Chinese passport: Fuck the CCP

For every success, there’s 100s and more failures, scams, and unfulfilled promises. Developers should seek traditional funding if they’re so confident in their idea. If I’m taking a financial risk on a developer, I should get a financial return if it succeeds. “Kickstarting” is a fancy way of saying “lets socialize losses and privatize profits”.

If there’s only 1 lesson you take from this, it’s that you should never pre-order, never kickstart. Risk should never be offloaded to the consumer

Fuck, I am just finishing up my 1.5 playthrough. Guess I better get another save file ready

This game really was the buy of the century

Almost. Don’t get me wrong, I FUCKING LOVE Stardew Valley, got 300+ hours in it, but Terraria was like $2 for ages and it’s every bit as good and still getting updates as well

DOA2. It unfortunately turned into the fighting playboy bunnies with huge jugs series, but the second one was actually a really solid fighting game

Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, and Earthbound are the holy trinity of SNES era RPGs

Bastion was huge when it came out. It definitely got forgotten after a couple years though.

Maybe I’m just a cynic, but this seems very much part of the PR script for any controversy of the past 20 years or so.

  1. Cause controversy

  2. Get backlash

  3. Say there were death threats in basklash

  4. Paint opposition in bad light, claim to be the real victim and bask in all the feel good comments from people saying “it was controversial, but come on, death threats are not cool”

  5. Conversation derailed, continue as planned

Seriously, go look at one of the comment threads on that other site. It’s now all about how “deranged indie devs” are hurting honest hard working Unity employees. Maybe it was a real threat, maybe it wasn’t, but they’re sure as fuck going to milk it for all they can now.

just spitballing here, but what happens if accountants band together and tell him to do his own damn taxes? he’s fucked then, isn’t he? the real revolution of the future won’t be fought in the streets, but in the accounting departments /s

Yeah, because when you’ve used the same engine for the past 15 years, I’d expect you to iron out most of the issues by now.

I kid because I love. I’ll play the fuck out of it regardless, but I’ll almost be disappointed if this game isn’t a glorious mess at launch.

“You won’t find any bugs if you don’t do any QA”

-Todd Howard probably

Honestly I’m so lazy and deep into the ecosystem now if if it’s not on Steam I just won’t play it. There’s too many things to play, and I don’t care enough to bother with multiple launchers and accounts

Halo. I picked up the collection in the summer steam sale for $10 and it was just … boring. I guess that’s to be expected for a 20+ year old game, the genre has innovated and improved a lot since then.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t AI generated content not copyrightable? Therefore nothing is stopping someone from taking all their content, rebranding it as “how stuff really works” or something, and then start stealing their business & ad revenue.

Yes! This game and Threads of Fate were two of the greatest forgotten games from that era

Monster Hunter Rise might be good. It’s more simplified compared to other Monster Hunters, so it’s perfect for someone new to the series. The basic gameplay loop is pick a monster to hunt, go find it, fight it, loot it, go back to town, upgrade gear, repeat. But it’s single player or 4 player co-op, so you’re completely free to enjoy at your own pace. No need to worry about grinding for the best gear or anything like that, but you can spend hours getting the meta armor too if that’s your thing. Plus, jumping around like a ninja is pretty cool

Monster Hunter Rise just released it’s final planned update after 2 years. It’s PvE, and it still has a really large community so won’t be hard to find partners for hunts.

Exactly. People also forget that reddit didn’t spring up overnight, and the great digg migration wasn’t a one-time en masse thing either. It was a slow bleed for 2~3 years even after digg’s v4 redesign. Those that stayed on digg turned it into one huge circlejerk about how reddit sucked and it would never take off, and people would end up back on digg eventually … EXACTLY like what is happening on reddit now. It will take time for Feddi to grow, but it will as long as dedicated users stick around and create interesting content
