I don’t know about Rogue/Zork/etc. but monster training has been an important mechanic in games like Dragon Quest 5 and the Megami Tensei series long before Pokemon existed.

12 year old me was watching Nintendo send representatives to Senate hearings to try to censor the entire medium of video games. Every L Nintendo takes is a benefit to the world.

If it doesn’t have the cube, sphere and cone, stay away.

Gundam is a weird mix of hard sci-fi (spin gravity, no FTL) and utter ridiculousness (the mechs themselves, literal space magic.)

How many gamers bought Veilguard?

EDIT: I just checked and it looks like the only game EA released since Veilguard that was targeting the general gaming audience (i.e. wasn’t a sports game, a Sims expansion or a mobile game) was Split Fiction. Battlefield 6 will be out in a couple of weeks so we’ll see how that does.

Yep. If you want to escape from surveillance and censorship, you’ve got to go to a communist country.

Chris Hansen married someone named Chris Hansen? What are the odds!

He did some sound design on Tomb Raider III and composed for The Last Revelation, Chronicles and Angel of Darkness. He wasn’t involved with any of the games people actually care about.

They were always conservative. A few years before these ads Nintendo participated in Senate hearings where they advocated for censoring the entire medium. They just had a “fellow kids” period in the early 2000s. Luckily, judging by the sales of the GameCube, most people weren’t fooled.

Still bugs me that Microsoft owns the rights to the King’s Quest series, though.

We passed the point of diminishing returns for graphics years ago. There’s no point in keeping up with the latest hardware anymore.

Games continue to get cheaper to make as middleware improves and advancing hardware lessens the need for optimisation. If companies choose to spend more on games despite this then that’s their problem.

Too bad it didn’t happen closer to release. There’s no way in hell that I’m giving money to Microsoft.

Ever heard of SpaceWar? Hunt the Wumpus? Tennis for Two? Pong didn’t introduce violence to the world.

Microsoft really knows how to pick the winners, don’t they?

Wish people would be more comfortable simply feeling inspired by Nintendo and doing their own things

The PalWorld devs did that. Nintendo sued them anyway.

Fallout 3 isn’t a FPS. It’s got turn-based combat because of VATS, and that’s what makes it good.

The problem is that interest rates have gone up after being extremely low ever since the 2008 crash, so investors lost their endless supply of debt-fuelled free money. They can’t pump money into companies operating at a loss anymore, so suddenly those companies have to find a way to turn a profit.

Also announcing that if you’ve ever used Unity they can just suddenly decide that you owe them more money.

The one apple seller in a town that sells all kinds of baked goods jacks up prices of apples to $100 each.

No, it’s more like one apple seller who arbitrarily decides that the people who already bought apples from them at a lower price now need to pay extra.
