Comes with YT Premium, so not sure why I’d use anything else. Can’t say I love the app though. Seems to get worse with each update.

I might have to one of these days, but man do I doubt it’s UI is usable after being such hot garbage over so many years. Such a shame too because fuck everything about Autodesk and I know Blender has some incredibly powerful tools.

Oh god. Please aim higher than that. Not saying that Blender ain’t powerful, because it clearly is, but it’s UI is just plain shit. (Unless there have been some massive improvements over the last few years.)

Who else would love to see a phone similar to the G1 get released again? Modern specs, larger screen, but a similar housing design, just less clunky.

The idea is nice and all, but just keep your phone longer. After 3 years or so, do a factory reset and reinstall ONLY the apps you actually use. That should get you a good year more out of the phone before it starts to get too old. The biggest issue is the lack of seoftware updates. Not getting a new OS is one thing, but the lack of security updates is the biggest problem. Lots of software that people use on a daily basis will stop functioning if they see your OS is behind in security. Unfortunately that’s the problem. Not the hardware, but rather the software.

Probably. But I still find it funny how they were pushing so hard into making people believe there would be no more hardware generations.

I remember when the current generation of consoles came out (Series X/S and PS5) that both MS and Sony and all the various gaming magazines were claiming that they would be the last hardware consoles ever. Uh huh.

Outdated devices can’t run some newer apps. If yiu can’t get security updates, then some banking or online trading apps might not run. Many businesses use 2FA. I might be wrong, but if a device isn’t being updated for security then the device can’t use used for 2FA. Similar deal with using it for payment at a store or using it as your key on your newer model car.

It all starts to steamroll.

Why the hell would anyone buy these devices when the support is so short? And I’m not even specifically talking about this foldable, rather all these devices from Google and MS? You’re basically paying good money for e-waste.

Their slogan should be “here, you throw it away for us”.

I really hate Apple for other things, but they rarely pull this kind of crap when it comes to support.

I still have my Sega Genesis that I bought on launch day and up until a year ago,it still worked. Thatsa 30+ year old device. Somewhere in my parents basement is an ancient fake Walkman. It might not work as it,but but if you changed some o-rings, chances are it would work. That’s gotta be well over 35 years old. I still have G1 Transformers when they were first released. These are all items that (for the most part), still work. And yet today, people can’t even get more than 3 years on most devices. Not because the device is broken. Rather because the device is made to have a very short lifespan on purpose. This shit makes me so damn mad.

I know Europe has flirted with the idea of life cycle product management (can’t quite remember the full name). Basically manufacturers are required to take back their products at the end of their life and dispose of them properly. These kinds of programs encourage manufacturers to make their products easier to tear down, and thus also easier to repair, but also to minimize the amount of non recyclable materials. When you put the responsibility on manufacturers to take care of these things, it is in their best interests to keep their products from turning into useless e-waste. It definitely wouldn’t solve all the problems of products having super short lives, but it could help because if something is easier to tear down, then it might be easier to maintain ans possibly upgrade.

Google’s phones have had screen issues. There was also some kind of phantom power draw issue in the previous version. Turning a blind eye to quality problems doesn’t make them go away.

Apple, then Samsung.

Google doesn’t put out enough products to be on this list and almost all their phones seem to have at least one fatal flaw. Some might be fixable via software, but not always.

Tech reporting these days is essentially people who have been wined-and-dined by corporate marketing departments and then just regurgitating what press releases tell them what to say. And if these “reporters” don’t play ball, they get quietly blacklisted by these companies.

Everyone hopped onto ad blockers

Rightfully so.

A banner ad here or there, and people could put up with that. But limitless greed kicked in and these companies would bury ads in the article, ones that pop up over the article and everywhere in between. And on mobile it is 10x worse where the formating is an absolute mess and ads take priority over any actual real content.

Don’t worry about it. As long as you don’t let it get down to 0% and as long as you don’t fast charge it 24/7, you’ll be fine. Don’t bother charging it every 10 seconds either. Endlessly taking on and off a charger is not great for a battery. If yiu have 30 mins and you know you’ll need the charge by the end of the day, then go ahead. But if you’ll end the day with 70% then why are you charging it every few minutes? Relax.

How about, fuck no.

People have a right to demand a very simple feature that costs almost nothing and is incredibly useful. If that’s a major requirement, then who the hell are you to say they can’t depend it?

WebOS was awesome. It was more slick all those years ago than Android is now.

Use a wooden toothpick, not a conductive metal screw. Geez!

In terms of WHY? It’s 1/2 dozen of one, 6 or so of another. Yeah, the Apple solution seems more robust, and I have no doubt it is. Apple gets a lot of shit, most of it well deserved, but I also have little doubt that they tested the hell out of their connector to be incredibly robust.

I too think their solution seems better, but if yiu are abusing your device enough to where you are breaking the connector, something is wrong.

Exactly. The big issue is the fact that it doesn’t technically do any processing on-device and simply does streaming. So if this ever gets jailbroken, it will need to involve more than just software since you’d need something with a reasonably fast CPU to run that software.

I’m excited to see this product fail!

What a beautifully pointless device. The design of the device is legitimately futuristic, but other than that this is a device that is bound to fail. It’s a “what were they thinking?” kind of product.

Here’s what I hope: Sony cancels this device next year when no one buys it for Christmas this year. They clearance them all out for $100 and at that point the hacker/DIY community notices that the controller and screen and other components are worth way more than $100 so someone develops some kind of $50 add on that let’s you actually run software on it directly (bypassing the stupid streaming BS). Basically turning it into a fancy Android handheld.

For those who might think that is far fetched, just remember what happened with the HP Touchpad all those years ago.

There’s no way that Sony of all companies could have charged less money for it. Goes to show how aggressive Valve priced the Steamdeck.

Could she have saved him? No.

Could she even have traveled fast enough to be with him? No.

Could she even have communicated with him before he died? No.

He had been fighting an illness for a long time according to the article that few people in here read. To me sounds like it wasn’t something that he contracted that morning and he died hours later suddenly. He had the illness long before this game was planned. And she knew he was ill. But in a world that is constantly looking for controversies and drama, some people completely unconnected to this story are going to demonize the coaches and team owners and stuff like that.

But WHY? God I can not understand why someone would willingly use iOS. I have both an Android and iPhone and every time I pick up the iPhone I wonder why anyone would use this willingly.

In other parts of the world it is even worse. In Asia iphone is even more of a status symbol which makes it even more desired.

I have not played that game. In fact I haven’t heard of it before.

I NEVER pay full price! But if I hear of a game that sounds interesting I’ll throw it on my wishlist and maybe buy it when it goes on sale.

I have a large backlog of games to play before I even think about buying anything new, but is this even a good game? Serious question because I know there has been a huge amount of press on it, but haven’t watched any reviews yet (on purpose because I hate spoilers and don’t want to be tempted with a new purchase yet).

No love for Guardians? I was pleasantly surprised by that game.

Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2, Mass Effect, Guardians of the Galaxy (not a real RPG, but has RPG elements).

That’s kind of cool. I’ve had wet hands before and couldn’t reliably use my phone because of it. If it’s not a large cost-adder that’s something I’d like to see all phones have.

Today I Learned.

Didn’t even know that was a thing anymore. Something to keep in mind. Thanks for the heads-up.

Ummm. I use the hotspot on my Android and iPhone fairly regularly. Didn’t have to root or jailbreak anything. Just turn on and go. Both on Verizon.

Are you sure there isn’t some setting you aren’t enabling first??

I don’t play online games, but how much does this cripple the playability of some of these games if you take away the online element??

Great, now how about a sketching app that follows all the same criteria that OP mentioned. Something for quick and dirty sketches. Nothing fancy. One that can do sketches and notes would be even better.

We REWARD incompetence and liars by doing pre-orders and still buying games that have been reported to be buggy or full of in-app purchases, etc.

So why is anyone surprised that this shit happens?

When the SteamDeck was first announced I was sure I was going to order one, but when I started reading about the dimensions I came the conclusion that I’d only use it at home, and if I’m home, I can jsut use my gaming PC. If I want to sit on the couch, I can just use Big Picture to my TV and use a controller. If I am on the go, portability is top priority and a pocketable retro handheld fits that use-case. I couldn’t imagine using a SD on a plane, what with how closely packed in the seats people are. I’d be elbowing the passengers next to me.

So when do you guys use the SD? Long train/bus commute?

Snakeoil.

The fact that some people are saying “maybe” or “it might” means there is enough uncertainty out there to get a few suckers to buy this shit.

My understanding is that no first party controller (Sony, MS, Sega or Nintendo) uses hall effects.

I’m sure they are good (they don’t drift), but we’ve all grown up with “regular” joysticks and they were fine. Now all of a sudden, hall effects is the latest gaming buzzword that all gamers apparently need to get. Not saying that hall effects don’t have positives, but I do find it funny that all of a sudden its a big deal in the industry.
