There is something very serene about BotW. I was recently looking into some mods to see if I can get back into the game.

I actually did proofread a few times. By now I think I’ve had to admit to myself that I may have mild dyslexia, and should see about getting diagnosed. I usually have to read through something multiple times, and even then, typos will remain. I do appreciate you pointing it out though! I’ve updated the title.

Very much a worthy successor to the first.

It’s amazing how many things happened so quickly, like the goldeneye multiplayer being a thing created over the weekend before launching or something.

The fact you were only about 25% through the game was pretty crazy to me back then too. It’s still one of my too Zeldas.

Known in Japan as The Hyrule Fantasy: The Legend of Zelda. The main title was dropped in the US to make the name shorter and some claim it was to avoid confusion with the upcoming Squaresoft Final Fantasy game, which would debut a year later. [The Legend of Zelda](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Legend_of_Zelda) was inspired by **Shigeru Miyamoto**'s explorations as a boy in the surrounding areas of his home in Sonobe, Japan. One of his most memorable experiences was finding a cave entrance in the middle of the woods. After some hesitation, he entered the cave and explored its depths with the aid of a lantern. The story and setting were developed by Takashi Tezuka. He drew inspirations from fantasy books such The Lord of the Rings. The legend of the Triforce was written with inspirations from the battles of medieval Europe. The Master Sword was introduced as their version of Excalibur in A Link to the Past, which is regarded as reminiscent to the legend of King Arthur. Princess Zelda was named after American novelist, socialite and painter Zelda Fitzgerald. Tezuka modeled Link's appearance after the eponymous character of Walt Disney's Peter Pan. What is your favorite Zelda memory?

There seems to be a decent group on fediverse that just want steam gone.

This would be an interesting comic strip. A company that has purchased all the fonts in existence, and then the artist doing the comic you are reading gets sued by the company he’s making a comic about, because he doesn’t have the rights to the font.

Some of the Game of the Year editions used to have the full game on a disc, but even towards the end of that trend, companies just started packing the original disc with dlc codes.

I told my wife to not buy me a ps5, since I didn’t see any games I wanted. She did so anyway. I have yet to buy a single ps5 game, still working through all the ps4 stuff. I’ll buy a handle of ps5 games when ps6 is probably out. I’ve told her to NOT buy me a ps6 in the future, but she’ll probably ignore that as well.

Would have been great to have a way to transfer data. I was post game in Death’s Door and then they closed the door on me.

I think for me it’s a combination of the “time” people are mentioning, but also boredom. When you’re younger, everything is new. When you’re older you start noticing the repeating patterns in media. It’s the reason I also stopped watching anime. If I play a game now, it has to really be something that new that will hold my attention, outside of a couple of franchises. Outer Wilds for example, blew my mind.

Before clicking I already assumed microsoft and sony were going to be named as options, who are arguably worse companies. While Nintendo is doing shitty stuff, I don’t see the equal uproar against the other companies. My only assumption is Nintendo’s strict stance against emulation is clashing with lemmy’s pirate culture.

This was really revealing. I didn’t know Palworld was now Sony’s. It basically now makes this Nintendo Vs Sony.

Another big thing for me is that I’ve worked on computers as part of my job for the last 15yrs. The last thing I wanted to do was come back home to sit again at a computer chair on another computer. Now that I work remotely, there is even less of a separation of my life since I am in my office a lot. I mentally can’t have my work station also be my gaming station, it’s just not healthy for me, I’d never move from the same place. Maybe one day when one of my laptops is old I’ll finally install steam, but for now having a switch and ps5 works wonders for the separation.

Oh, I spent a lot of time in there, thinking I’d find more than another mini abandoned mine site or yiga lair. The most interesting thing was the yoga boss fight. The underworld portion could have probably been turned into a really great post game idea if they had spent more time on it.

I do think Botw and Totk would have benefited from having the map 50% smaller to condense the content. The underworld in Totk basically ended up just being collecting DLC armor from the previous game.

Then you add in the 2DS which came out after the 3DS.

The 3D was what really threw me off. I was a day one backer and was loving all the artwork. Once the 3D hit, it kind of soured me on the project. I still ended up backing it, but I never finished the game.

I don’t remember the vitriol being as consistent on reddit. On a larger scale here, if it’s a computer, it needs to be Linux or you’re downvoted. If it’s video games, it needs to be a PC or they don’t want to hear about it. Even Steam that was generally loved on Reddit gets some flack, because GOG is more DRM free from what I can tell (I don’t game on PCs)

Lemmy is the wrong place to mention Nintendo. You will get obliterated by people.

40hrs seems like a good chunk of time. I think I collected everything in Hollow Knight in 60hrs, so this sounds encouraging in terms of money’s worth. From the comments it does sound enjoyable. A game from long ago that I played for the art was Muramasa on the wii, but I remember never finishing the game and selling it. I will give this one a shot!

The artwork looks great to me, but I can’t really see anything amazing game mechanics wise from the trailer. What do you think makes it GOTY for you? (I’d genuinely want to give this game a try)

Given that they remade Chain of Memories entirely, I am really surprised they never did it for 358/2.

This is a very good example. I am going to steal this in the future.

I must say, the games is one of the few reasons I still pay for Netflix. But I had a similar reaction when certain games were locked behind Apple Arcade, so I understand the sentiment.

I know you’re being downvoted, but I had the same thought. I see more outcry over nintendo than other companies. Yes, Nintendo has done bad things, but if I were to go back and browse Reddit I feel like the level of hate on Lemmy is much higher. I have to assume it’s due to the open source nature of Lemmy and it’s ideals.

Oh fun. A game series I used to work on is on the Dark Games first page.

I’m not even sure what my reaction to this should be, but I commend the dedication put in.

I can’t wait until I can buy Kingdom Hearts The Final Mixed Series in 10yrs will all the games on one disc… though who am I kidding, physical media will be gone by then.

No different than people being into star trek, star wars, a song of fire and ice, DC or Marvel lore. People like stories they can converse over. Timelines are yet another piece to talk about.

I was hoping an article existed!

Another one that comes to mind (that someone can correct me on). Was Uncharted the game that made the “no health bar, but redder screen as you are close to dying” popular?

This was definitely the first time I also remember this appearing, and it made it more engaging for me as a child.

Oh wow, did Zelda really make this popular? I wouldn’t have guessed. I’ve play it a ton.

What games popularized certain mechanics?
I was trying to think of which games created certain mechanics that became popular and copied by future games in the industry. The most famous one that comes to my mind is Assassin’s Creed, with the tower climbing for map information.

I’m sure the fact that Braid is also on Netflix games didn’t help. I assume most people with a netflix account have access to play it on their phones.
