I like to ask a variety of questions, sometimes silly, serious, and/or strange. Never asking in an attempt to pester or “just asking questions” stuff.

I’m generally curious and/or trying to get a sense of people’s views.

So it’s really just that the battery adds a bit of weight, and someday the thing will fail and maybe cause electrical failure of the gamepad.

Emphasis added, yeah this is among the reasons I’m asking. The other reasons I’ve noted, but this underlies a lot of it. I don’t know how long the dual-use ones’ batteries may last if I’m primarily using them wired, so instead of having that in the back of mind, I’d like to get a wired controller for when gaming on devices I’m already close to (which is mostly PC, hence asking for it specifically).

This is a good list, but y’know a niche ya missed? Pressure sensitive buttons, only really useful for those emulating old games that used them, but still a fun feature to remember.

Yeah in hindsight I’m kicking myself for not having gotten one like that, but I had trouble finding wired ones at the time (and didn’t think I’d get tired of the battery maintenance), which surprised me.

The cheap part of PowerA controllers is a little of why I asked, as I’ve not had an opportunity to ask anyone that’s used them.

Which wired controllers, without batteries, would you recommend for PC?
I'm often close enough to my PC while playing games that wireless seems a little unneeded, but more than that, I just want fewer batteries to manage. Adjusted title to mention preference for no batteries.

With cheat/game codes mostly gone, what do people use instead for their single-player games (that don’t involve microtransactions)?
Cheat codes were such a nice option for games with highly questionable difficulty or progression.

Any ideas how it might restore the backup on signing in without needing your key afterward if it’s E2EE? Doesn’t this call into question their E2EE claims?

What gameplay settings/options would make you more apt to play different game genres?
Original, clunky form of the question: > What gameplay settings/options that some game genres don't often have would make you more apt to play them?

You don’t like having it duck you over when you’re really trying to duck? 😜

CI/CD processes.

What does this stand for, and what are these (in layman’s terms anyway, not expecting a deep dive)?

cross-posted from: https://lemm.ee/post/27550316 in [[email protected]](https://lemm.ee/c/likethismaylike) > Brogue's a more up to date spin on the classic game Rogue, with some slight modern touches to make it more approachable to newcomers while keeping to the spirit of the original.

I just hope this pointless move won’t bring down the wayback machine.

What was the pointless move you’re referring to?

Do you guys think we use Steam because we HAVE to? GoG exists bros, we’re using Steam because we prefer it.

Do you think many are aware of options like GOG? Every other time I’ve seen it mentioned/suggested, it’s often accompanied by, “What’s GOG?”

The other part of the question remains however, what happens when leadership changes, even supposing no sale of the company?

Oh, I hadn’t read of it in that form, thanks!

What happens when the leadership or ownership changes hands?

It’s a first gen Moto X, been kicking myself ever since I realized the mistake. If it’s the sort that can power on with battery removed, that would be great! (I’d migrated the microSD card from it before the swelling, so it’s the internal storage I’d be trying to get at btw.)

Piggybacking off this question, what would be a safe way to extract data from a phone with a swollen battery 'cause you forgot lithium batteries gobble electricity up and go all Popeye the Sailor when they’ve been used awhile?

Might it be better in future to screenshot the post, quote the text and cite the author/poster, supposing one wants to avoid any linking to Twitter?

App or method to easily migrate apps + media to a new phone?
So, I'm aware of Syncthing for much of the media, which may help after getting things migrated, but I'm wondering if there may be something more like Clonezilla (or the like) for smartphones to more easily copy over apps & media in bulk. I also know that the Play Store keeps track of installed apps and I can go through it to individually reinstall each one, but I imagine there must be a much better way.

Which of these have people here played, and might recommend?

Isn’t offline though […]

How do you mean? I was of the impression it was.

What are some other sites like Lichess for tabletop/board games?
For those unaware, [Lichess](https://lichess.org/) is a really slick site for playing chess online, and a kinda similar site exists with [Online Go](https://online-go.com/) for playing Go online. Would love to know if there may be similar for classic card games and dominoes, and thanks in advance for any pointers!

What is a SME or SMB in this context? Mentioning @[email protected] in case you’re not sure what they meant by SMB either.

Perhaps a transition to a not-for-profit organization structure might be what folks would prefer? It seems like a potentially better alternative than going public, but I’m not sure how it might work in practice for something like a digital storefront.

In a weird way, one could almost argue that’s roughly how Valve’s been operating anyway, except I imagine they’ve been lining their pockets more than a not-for-profit organization’s owners/employees do.

For the money, you can’t go wrong with Unihertz phones, just don’t expect them to be flagship quality, and be prepared to put up with some minor annoyances.

That’s about what I was thinking, and it sounds like despite some shortcomings they’re generally alright, which is what I wasn’t so sure of, so that’s good to read. Certainly not expecting top of the line given the price point and some of their more, uh, unique designs. Appreciate the reply!

However there is bad. The fingerprint sensor is highly unreliable. The screen has really bad response times so there’s a lot of ghosting. The speakers are also pretty bad. The camera is exactly what you’d expect as well. Also the update support is extremely limited.

Hmm, I’ve never really found fingerprint sensors to be that useful personally, so of these negatives it sounds like the screen may be the most annoying, but given the price point, not entirely surprising. Thanks!

Experience with Unihertz phones?
Curious if any folks here have a Unihertz phone (Jelly/Atom/etc.) and how they've been for them. Knowing their constraints, I've still been tempted to get one because I *think* I'd like the more compact sizes, and they're not super expensive. However, they are also still budget phones and despite being small, a tad thick, so...
