I finally managed to install Lineage os on this HTC One (m8) thanks to the help of Lemmy!

Yep, and only 2GB RAM.
I kept a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 from 2013 up to date with CyanogenNod until the LineageOS fork. That thing had 768MB of RAM and 8GB of storage and couldn’t even fully update to Android 4.4.4 due to lack of storage space, but around Android 7 with custom ROMs was when I felt it simply wasn’t worth the effort anymore due to the terrible performance
Fun fact: You can put PostmarketOS on Nokia N900 which is from 2009. It should still make it relatively usable, though probably quite slow. It only has 256MB RAM and a single-core 32-bit 600MHz CPU.
I wish N900 had a modern version.
I had that phone, also with Lineage. It was great. :)
Same here, one of the best phones I’ve ever had.
Did you have a tutorial or something you followed?
The last time I installed Linux was over 20 years ago when I repurposed an old Gateway PC to be a switch/VPN. I’m sure it’s not outside of my ability but wouldn’t know where to start.
Working on remodeling a motorhome and I want to build a few Home Assistant interfaces. If I could use my old M8 that is still in perfect condition that would be amazing.
Well basicly all instruction you need and it’s explained pretty well on the lineage os website itself. https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/m8/ The hardest part was getting the unlocktoken since htc doesn’t take new htcdev registrations. I got hellped by a member on Lemmy who had a old htc dev account.
OP does not mention Linux but a third party Android distribution. Just FYI.
We use the exact same things in the home row bar or whatever that bottom folder is called. 🙌
Many apps and launchers call it a ‘dock’
Isn’t this phone was originally shipped with Windows Phone 8? How do you managed to mod it out and install Android on it?
There might have been a windows version, but I definitely had an android one.
Oh I see…
Welp, that make it far more easier technically to pull off that I imagine it would be

Don’t mean to highjack topic. But Thank You Steve, for watching my dog while I was on vacation.
?
Steve is a good friend.

It still smells like corporate data collecting nonsense in here. And I think I know why.
Spoiler alert: it’s WhatsApp.
Allready deleted that app, if you scroll thru the comments you can see that it’s been replaced by signal.
You’re making great progress.
Don’t forget to stay away from stupid keyboards!!
Some are basically key loggers
AnySoftKeyboard is nice also
Most of them. Florisboard or Openboard.
Not tiktok music?
That doesn’t look like TikTok to me.
Could use some ricing. Try iconify

One of the best Android phones ever made. Just seeing this photo made me happy and Nostalgic
Ah, the wonderful M8. Loved that phone, used one for over a year.
I was the only person in my company capable of stripping them down for repair. Really not built to come apart
I had one for a couple years too, back when it was new. I loved it. such good stereo speakers.
WE DID IT!!
