Two months on from the release of Starfield, players are still waiting for Bethesda to address the numerous bugs which …

The official mod tools aren’t out yet. Maybe wait until they are before criticising how tough modding is?

Pretty stupid move on Bethesda’s part, since they’re well aware of how mods are the only reason their ancient games still get so much attention. Hell, if it wasn’t for the Unofficial Patches, many of their games would be unplayable.

It’s a particularly weird decision taking into account the lots of aspects of the game seem to only be there as hooks for modding, or even as examples to be expanded. So it seems they designed an entire game under the idea that it would be a sandbox for modders and then forgot to create any tools for it.

It’s weird how radio silent they have been.

They promised a updated creation kit, so our dedicated modders can continue fixing bugs and making nakkee mods of Sergeant Yumi.

With the trend of how long after release the kit came for previous games, I wouldn’t expect Starfield’s to be released until a whole year has gone by. The last one took 6 months. Before that it was only 3 months later. It’s like they’re doubling each time.

They were up front about the CK not releasing until 2024. What else is there to say?

Wonder how much money would be owed to these devs if they were paid even a fraction of the average bethesda dev. The management of Bethesda knowingly relies on the thankless* labour of thousands of devs just to get their games to a playable state.

  • okay sometimes they’ll offer you a tour of their studios but you still have to pay for the flights and accommodation so not really a ROI.

Bethesda tried to monetise mods to help mod devs get money for their projects.

They were absolutely destroyed by backlash and withdrew it.

Because the implementation was a shitshow. There was no verification that uploaders of popular mods were the actual mod creators, anybody could rush to be the first to upload something.

The official modding tools for Starfield don’t release until 2024. Of course modding is an afterthought.

Bethesda was very up front about the creation kit not releasing with the game itself. It’s dumb as hell, but in no way should this be a surprise to anyone in the Starfield modding community.

Revisit this once the creation kit releases and the situation still sucks. At least then this’ll be a little more sensible to complain about.

I dunno, just because they were upfront about something that obviously sucks doesn’t mean you can’t complain about it. Especially when modding has been a corner stone of Bethesda games for decades.
