They didn’t take a pirate game and slap the AC name on it. They took an AC game with ship mechanics, dialed down the assassin, and dialed up the ships.
If you liked AC, then Black Flag wasn’t it. I personally loved 3, but wasn’t the biggest fan of the boats and pirate stuff. Black Flag only made all of that worse.
Everyone’s got their own opinions, but to say AC Black Flag isn’t just a pirate game with AC slapped on it isn’t being very honest.

It’s a direct iteration on AC3 in every way.
If you liked AC, then Black Flag wasn’t it. I personally loved 3, but wasn’t the biggest fan of the boats and pirate stuff. Black Flag only made all of that worse.

To me it’s more of an AC than the rpgs that came after
3 is definitely not peak.
AC3 is literally the worst mainline AC game, and I’ve played them all. And all you ubi haters don’t worry, I only paid for the very first one.
It’s so diluted, the pacing sucks. The whole character switcheroo is dumb since all the promotionnal stuff had Connor on it.
AC3 is literally one of the best.
