What walled garden are you talking about? Exclusive games? Literally every console ever made has those.

Nintendo bad for making QoL console releases? Again, Nintendo is not the only company to do that. PS4/PS5 Pro, the recent Xboxes, etc

With emulators, they’re only trying to protect their current hardware. They’ve put basically zero effort into shutting down emulators for consoles they don’t sell anymore. Yeah, I’m with everyone else in wishing they didn’t shut down the switch emulators but it’s somewhat understandable that they’re trying to protect their revenue from hardware sales

Seconding Balatro, if you loved Slay the Spire, you will love Balatro

I get it, people have understandable reasons for why they personally wouldn’t want crossplay in competitive. All I’m asking for is the option to enable it. I’m on PC and almost all of my friends are on console so we always have to play casual. The wild swings in opponent skill level get really annoying sometimes. Solo queuing in this game is exceptionally awful because voice chat is disabled by default, which makes no sense for a game that requires teamwork

And yeah, the blanket live service hate gets pretty annoying. Like this is a great game with purely cosmetic microtransactions that can be easily ignored

Ok new heroes, yeah, cool, but an option for crossplay in competitive would be even better 🙏 My competitive rank is low because I can’t party up with my friends and has absolutely nothing to do with my own skill trust

Also why is this post getting so many downvotes?

I’m hoping this lights a fire under devs’ asses and reminds them that the platformer genre exists. I’ve played a few recent indie platformers that were decent but I’d love to see the genre get some love from bigger studios (other than Nintendo).

The only recent one I can think of that fits that bill is Yooka Laylee and that game was doodoo.

Bugfixes are a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” thing with remasters. Purists and speedrunners often prefer bugs remain unfixed, others don’t

But I definitely see what you mean with the overly busy designs and inaccurate models. I actually died once to my own rocket launcher because I thought I was shooting through a gap between a cliffside and a tree but the gap acted like an invisible wall

I’m curious what you think they messed up with CE anniversary? I just recently played through it and can’t remember any changes besides the graphics, which can be switched back to normal by simply pressing the Tab key

that game will live on forever

And Melee fans will still refuse to play it for whatever reason

I’ve been enjoying the flow state I get into while playing Space Marine II. It is a mix of melee and shooting, but the melee aspect is very simple - no memorizing combos and the timing of parries is fairly forgiving. It’s all very satisfying once you get the feel for it. Cinematics are skippable, you can change the difficulty level to your liking, and you can set your lobbies to private if you don’t wanna play with others

“Live service” is a genre. Clearly, it’s not your genre. So play other genres.

It would be sad if that’s what Nintendo convinced him into believing, because as the article points out, there’s legal precedent for emulators

Any info on what exactly the dev got out of the deal? Huge sum of money? Big titty waifu? Unreleased version of Smash with Waluigi?

Gamepad for everything except shooters

Lego 2k Drive is a great one. Micro transactions are sadly pushed pretty hard, but I just played with my Switch in airplane mode and that made it pretty easy to ignore them

You call them scammers, then say their right to scam should be protected by licenses? I say we scam the scammers by forking it and doing whatever the fuck we want with it 🙂

The author’s points are:

  • Ew crypto, amirightguise?
  • They missed a single letter in a single word on a page that wasn’t meant to be public-facing, what a bunch of losers

It’s pretty easy to tell that this guy spends at least half of his waking hours on reddit. He also completely glossed over the fact that it’ll be open source, so we can just fork it and cut out the icky parts

The current COD (MW3/Warzone) is my guilty pleasure. It crashes during 50% of my play sessions, the player/weapon skins are cringe, the battle pass is pushed pretty hard, but somehow I’m able to ignore all of that and have a lot of fun with it. Warzone is my personal favorite battle royale implementation and MW3 is a nostalgia trip with all the remade maps from past games.

Admittedly, half of my enjoyment comes from playing with my clan from the Xbox 360 days and feeling like we’re in high school again, so playing alone might not be so fun

Sadly, I don’t think ray tracing is going to fix how boring this game is. I also backed the kickstarter because I’m a huge Banjo Kazooie fan. I started this game 3 separate times and could never will myself to get more than halfway. Not only is the gameplay uninteresting, the writing just doesn’t have the same charm as the BK games

Warzone, COD’s battle royale mode, is free to play and seems to have surpassed normal COD multiplayer in popularity. Talking to randos while playing normal COD multiplayer, a lot of people say they’re just playing it because it’s a quick way to level up their guns for use in Warzone

Lots of people ITT complaining that Lemmy is blanket anti-business, meanwhile I’m just surprised that something involving Nintendo isn’t being downvoted into oblivion

This place is getting more diverse, I like it

You’re welcome, you caught me at a good time lol I’m currently playing through the series (currently on Tooie) after not touching them since childhood

Usually, the N64’s C-buttons get mapped to the Switch’s right stick, which is actually perfect for these games since they mainly control the camera and aiming

Is Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts a good representation of the series?

Definitely not. While I do enjoy Nuts and Bolts, it’s like they took all the good aspects of the N64 games and thought “ok but what if cars?”.

Or is the original Banjo-Kazooie (or its sequel) so good that I should look past the age of the game and give it a go?

Definitely yes. The official N64 emulator on the Switch has Banjo Kazooie and I think it’s a great way to play it. The controls translate to a Switch Pro controller pretty well and the graphics look nice, except for the text dialogue.

RetroArch with the Mupen64-Plus Next core and the ParraLLEl plugins also run Kazooie & Tooie without issues

The dual stage triggers made the Steam controller the dream controller for Rocket League IMO. Mapping boost to the second stage freed up my right thumb to control other things

The amount of downvotes this has makes me worried about Lemmy’s sense of humor

Finally, a DORONKO-type action game

As a lifelong Zelda fan, I’ve never cared much for the stories of Zelda games anyways. Like Mario games, they’re always incredibly simple placeholders that boil down to “princess gone, defeat evil that took her”. These games got their start when that was the only story that you could fit on the cartridge anyways, so I could see why Nintendo would want to keep that spirit alive.

Plus, in an open world game, is story really that important? I’d rather have the excellent gameplay of TOTK than something like Red Dead 2 which is a great story with excruciatingly boring gameplay.

The Switch came out right around when people were bitching about phones getting rid of headphone jacks, which the Switch does have. I really don’t see the problem with including a headphone jack from the start, focusing on releasing a stable system first, and adding Bluetooth headphone support later.

Adding Bluetooth audio support is not as simple as slapping a bluetooth radio in your system, especially when you have a custom operating system like the Switch’s

Also making a second third Mario movie

1 decent exclusive every other year

Absolutely hyperbole. Just last year, we got Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Wonder, Pikmin 4, and Advance Wars Reboot. Doesn’t matter if these aren’t your kind of games, they sold well, were critically acclaimed, and won awards.

lag behind the industry by 5-10 years

For graphics, sure. For creativity, accessibility, and all the other things that matter in video games? They lead the industry

This is hilarious because the latest Cod update prevents some Xbox players from booting into the game if they have a headset plugged in

Just another group of people that are gonna give unions a bad rep, I’m afraid

They’re playing less AAA games, yes. People are thinking much harder about the $60+ price tag as AAA studios repeatedly fail to live up to their promises. I feel like Nintendo is the only AAA company that doesn’t have a losing record for the past ~5 years

Taking something apart to fix it and not also cleaning it is a handiwork sin

It is believable when you remember that American companies simply don’t need to be profitable anymore

Any reason to play on Steam instead of ROM + emulator?

I always thought it was reincarnation of a group of ideal, godlike people

I don’t think I’ve met a true Zelda fan that cares much about the grand timeline(s), or even argues they make sense
