530 dollars for 251 games in almost 22 years of service. Steam only logged about 210 hours in those years, which is bullshit. There’s almost no time recorded in Half-life, Day of defeat or Counterstrike and those are the games I played the most. I also got most games through Humblebundle, where I spent 270 dollars since June 2012. But as I haven’t been playing much on PC ever since the PS3 came out, the real money went to Sony and I don’t even want to know.
My first reaction was “that’s bullshit, of course I know what I want”. I love story driven games in a grand world with some fighting, but it shouldn’t be the focus. My favorite games are Horizon, Uncharted, Dragon-Age, Skyrim. But then I thought about all the similar games I don’t like, like GTA, Ghosts of Tsushima, Red Dead Redemption, Fallout, Metal Gear Solid., Zelda.
Is there maybe a generational gap? I am older and I very, very rarely watch videos. Maybe when I am totally stuck in a game will I watch a walkthrough. But just watching other people play is something my kids and their friends do. I think games just caught up to sports, where most fans spend more time watching than playing as well.
A friend just did the same thing. My two PS5 controllers I’ve had since the beginning are still fine, luckily. The price tag for the DualSense Edge controllers, which apparently have the hall effect sensors built-in, is absolutely ridiculous. I saw them on Amazon for just under €230. Almost half as much as I paid for the damn console. I don’t know what the guys at Sony smoked, but it was too much.
I just started DA:I again and am indeed collecting shards in the Hinterlands. But it feels OK, so far. I have so many memories of that game, with the first playthrough clocking in at about 100 hours. I like being able to run around and discover stuff and with the influence score it feels like progress. But I’ll still give Veilguard a chance.
They seem to explore a different style for each Dragon Age game. I loved the shit out of DA:O and am still sad that no sequel captured the atmosphere of DA:O. But I still enjoyed every DA game. DA:I in particular was a lot of fun, even though it was not Origins. So I am hopeful that I’ll enjoy Veilguard as well.
I just wish I could play DA:O again. But I don’t have a Windows PC anymore.
Woah, you’re an optimist.
