Still BG3, and probably will be for a long time. As well as tabletop DND now, since the game inspired me to finally give DMing for friends a shot.

It totally always felt like that, and I was so excited for the standalone because I thought THAT would be it! And then they released a buggy mess that was in early access for like 7 years, and I, as well as many others, lost interest.

I do wonder if we could get the magic back, but I also wonder if the time has passed. DayZ was around before the battle royale explosion, and kinda led to it. It also came at a time when zombie survival media like The Walking Dead was at the height of its popularity.

I’m worried that any attempt at a similar game would just turn into a KOS deathmatch no matter what. The magic of DayZ was in the interactions you’d have with strangers, and roleplaying a bit.

The standalone was such a disappointment on release that it basically killed the game entirely. I have so many amazing memories with the Arma 2 mod. I’m glad people are still having fun with it

It’s just politics and Linux. Which is fine if you like that, I like Linux, but not this much. Being completely overwhelmed by political takes was part of why I left Twitter, with the blue checks being boosted. I’m so tired of seeing that same dude in a suit with a white beard bitching about [insert today’s controversial political topic] every time I open it. It’s like he has residency on the page.

Same. And I really gave it a chance, but it’s just not better unless you’re using it as a small chronological feed of people on your local instance. Which I know some people enjoy. I know interesting people and posts are on there, I know there are hilarious people on there, because I follow some of them. But the vast majority of them I discovered by random chance, it took a long time, and I’m still too bored by the app to bother opening it. Not to mention, if some important news is trending, I don’t see it right away. Which is something I’d always valued twitter for. I could pretty much be “in the know” within seconds of opening the app.

The people are there, the content is there, there’s 100% a discoverability problem

Oh I know, and I fully agree with getting rid of that. I’m not looking for ideal, I’m just looking for SOMETHING better than “oh you aren’t finding interesting content? Subscribe to hashtags that get spammed with BS by thousands of bots per day. Or search some obscure websites for ‘trendy’ mastodon users to follow. Or y’know what, this instance probably isn’t for you, research a bunch of other instances and see if something works better.”

The experience right now seems like one, to me, that a very small niche of people would enjoy. And that’s fine if they want to stay that way, just wish there was something better. And I think it’ll come with time.

I can’t, given I don’t have the time or webdev experience. So I’ll comment about features I think would be nice in the currently most popular fediverse twitter clone.

If it’s based on what I like and repost, and recommends things that people with similar likes and reposts enjoy, that information is already out there. No extra data collection required. Doesn’t need to be mandatory either, just a separate feed.

I’d really just prefer a recommendation algorithm. I tried curating it for months and I rarely go on mastodon. Because I’m either seeing 100000 posts that I’m not interested in to find one decent one, or reading posts from the very few people I know I like and closing the app in 2 minutes. I’m honestly not a fan of the purely chronological approach.

Oh did they change how the skill tree works? Maybe I’ll give it another try. The boring skill tree was a gripe of mine.

I’ve exclusively been on AMD since like 2015 and my GPUs “kinda-sorta working” has not been my experience at all lol. Literally have never had brand-specific problems. The only brand-specific issues I’ve had were trying to get my laptop with an Nvidia GPU to work properly under Linux.

Yeah, once I figured out how the inspect menu worked, I started learning much faster. I feel a little dumb regarding that. When I first tried it, I just saw that it made the tooltip stick on the screen, I didn’t realize I could hover over the text for more information. So I just went “huh, that’s dumb” and barely used it again until I saw someone online do it lol.

And for what it’s worth, other than the quest bug, the rest of it is mostly just me feeling out the game, which I’m fine with and had fun with, just did a lot of save scumming. I’ve played MMOs so the interfaces and whatnot aren’t completely unfamiliar, but before this game I was only vaguely aware of how tabletop RPGs work

Not OP, and I’ve been loving the game, but it does have some jank. Pretty early in act 1 I came across a bugged quest which I couldn’t complete. Couple the occasional bugs with my inexperience never playing a game like this before and a somewhat unintuitive interface/help system, and it made for a pretty clunky onboarding experience. Now that I’ve more got the hang of things it feels better. But I needed to look for help outside of the game to really get a handle on it.

I agree with you. I think it’s a lot of kids with summer jobs doing the complaining. I’ve got system wide ad block too, I paid for ultra purely to support LJ because he’s earned that trust, and then some, over the years.

I agree with you that we need better messaging to users about instance donations. For the record, I’d also support instance admins who employ an “ads or pay a fee” model. I think it’s probably the best option for larger instances. I doubt purely donation based models will be sustainable over time.

They’re welcome to use whatever other app they want, or deal with ads. Options abound. I seriously doubt the sync for lemmy dev is swimming in cash. We’re not talking about shoveling money at a company like reddit, we’re talking about supporting a solitary, highly trusted dev who’s worked hard to create a great app.

Okay, people who can’t afford two dollars per month to pay for something that they use every day are welcome to use another app, or deal with occasional ads. That’s the thing, there’s a variety of different app choices. The bitching comes off as “I love this app but I want to use it without paying for it or dealing with ads” more than anything else.

The amount of bitching I’ve seen on Lemmy over paying the developer for their hard work has been insane. I was happy to pay the measly fee for ultra. Sync is far superior to the other apps so far, even with some features missing in the beta. I was using Liftoff, which is good, but not even close to the polish of sync.

Yeah, I hate the explore page on Mastodon. At least on my instance I guess. Nothing interesting there, just the same few accounts posting political takes. Or shitting on reddit/Twitter. Gets very old very quick. It’s usable when you follow hashtags but it’s really not there yet.

It is extremely political, I’ve had a hard time filtering it all out. Every account posting memes tends to feel like they have a huge political chip on their shoulder. Kinda exhausting. I’ve had trouble finding the content that I used Twitter for.
