
Yeah that’s fair enough. Are there any free as in freedom solutions that allow you to sync progress through videos on multiple devices? If I’m watching some long video over multiple days it’s really convenient to easily switch it between all my devices, and have it automatically continue where I left off
I enjoy battle royales and have hundreds of hours in Apex, but what I really don’t like about them is that they change all the time. Maybe it’s just me, but it’s kind of annoying to put a game down for a year and come back to a completely different experience. You don’t even get the choice, in Apex especially I know they rotate through the maps that are available, so the one I prefer might be impossible to play on for 6 months straight. For this reason, Apex can never be as good of a game to me as Titanfall 2 still is to this day.
Plus, when the official servers are taken down a decade from now, there will be literally no way to revisit the experience. The only things left of the game will be recordings and memories. This is yet another thing that is better with more traditional games, where players can make their own custom servers (like Northstar for Titanfall 2).

Fun story: we just had the first week of uni here and over the summer all the school computers had been updated to Windows 11. During the first class then naturally all the professors were logging in to the computers for the first time. Upon opening the course syllabus, every single time, a big popup would appear on the screen about how Edge is so great and asking for analytics data permission. About half of the professors just agreed to everything fast to get it out of the way but the other half did reject it. In one case a professor was reading over the whole thing for at least 30 seconds

The problem is that these ‘features’ give you the fake appearance of performance but at the cost of actual performance. And they aren’t even good in the first place. Upscaling is like smearing vaseline all over your screen and saying “see how good it looks” when it’s just a blurry mess, especially with temporal elements. Frame generation gives artificial smoothness but doesn’t help input latency which is the part of frame rate that actually matters.
The kicker is that it costs real frames to generate fake ones. The game ends up looking and feeling worse.
