Nothing about flappy bird was original when it came out and half its assets were ripped from other games.

Most Lemmy servers don’t relentlessly track and sell everything you do though. Discord makes way more money off your data than it costs them to host.

What does Firewalk studios and PlayStation publishing have to do with Avalanche and WB?

Its all about money and development team size. A is generally indie, AA is a small-medium teams, AAA is large teams. AAAA is marketing terminology because everyone thought that AAA just meant better.

I don’t think they’re dead. They were wildly popular in the earlier days of the internet when it was still a relatively small place. Now there’s more people playing games than ever before. And a much lower proportion playing MMOs

Yeah but there are definitely games that are terrible with extreme marketing budgets that sell really well, that’s a lot of triple A games in a nutshell

Activision loves their fans in the way that a farmer loves his meat livestock. Money

Its definitely a hard thing for most indie devs to do on their own. Its a totally separate skillset that most of us don’t have but can definitely be learned.

Thats not that surprising, all games go through this stage of development where you’re using basic assets just so you have something to look at while you’re iterating gameplay

I’ve switched to LawnChair a few months back. It’s not perfect and I miss some features of Nova but I don’t want to support that anymore.

Its more than just the hardware, many don’t want to put any time into the software either. I’ve tried to get one friend to use the gaming PC he already has and he just flat out refuses. He finds it “breaks too often and has too many issues” which idk I’ve never had that level of issues but I’ve also been using them my entire life lol.

I think you underestimate how many people don’t want to deal with the overhead of a PC vs a console. Like for you and me, it’s straight forward and simple to use a PC but I have friends who truly struggle with technology and its just easier for them to not have to deal with anything beyond their boxed in OS on their console.

Thats how I felt about the prior generation. I went from a 360 to a series X

Thus also applies to many games made with Unity as well. It just requires a program like ILSpy to view it all.

If it means my console friends will finally play on PC I’m for it

As a gen z myself, this isn’t universally true. Some of us were around when Maplestory was big and remember the shit show when they ruined it. Also rip combat arms

Fascism is rising around the world, and if the largest military in the world is controlled by a dictatorship, it will absolutely affect you.

Locking content behind grouping is just plain annoying.

Literally one of the core design elements of MMOs is group content

Literally didn’t even know it had it? Is this only in the google app? I always remember pages on the site.

Then why play something centered around multiplayer content when there are multitudes more single player games focused around that exact play style?

One of my favorite games of all time. Always been sad that the god game genre really petered out. There’s definitely a few modern examples but nothing thats really captured the feeling that pop3 had.

Definitely check out the black & white games, From Dust, WorldBox (which is more sandbox but still fun), RuinArch, and Reus(1 & 2)
