I am cringing in horror at how poorly my factories would run on a Switch. Do you find playing it to be an acceptable experience?

He’s basically saying “suck it up, buttercup”. They think people are going to have no choice but pay these prices, with all the crazy shit going on. Maybe the Switch 2 will be successful, but most of my adult video gamer friends have already said they are going to pass. Only the ones that still have small kids are considering it.

Ah yeah not much you can do about that unless you put an aftermarket cooler on it and that’s a PITA.

Very unbiased source there.

I’m primarily a PC gamer but I buy ALL THE VIDEO GAME THINGS, so I have every console that comes out, even if I’m only going to play one game on it (looking at you, Returnal). Who is he trying to convince? Cause he’s full of shit.

Stop buying cheap fans?

My last two PCs I built were top of the line and they’re basically silent just with Noctua air cooling.

Counterpoint - you can boycott whoever you want for as long as you want whether the world is getting saved or not. Try not to give a shit what other people are doing. You don’t have to change the world. You just have to stick to your own principles. And if enough people do that, the world will change anyway. But all you can control is your own actions.

I have a long list of boycotted companies that I have never gone back on. Started with Blackjack Pizza in college when they wouldn’t refund a pizza that had oven cleaner all over the bottom of it. Facebook gone for 15 years now, and I go without the cool Quest VR stuff. Walmart kicked to the curb around the same time for their gross abuse of their employees. Amazon ditched 3 years ago, don’t miss it. I’d love to have Starlink to put on a vehicle when I travel the country, but it’ll be a cold day in hell before Muskrat gets a dollar out of me. Canceled all my Target shit (20 year card member) a couple months ago over their DEI bullshit and won’t set foot in one again. I shop at Costco as a single adult. The list goes on.

And while I wish other people would give these companies the finger so real change would happen, it doesn’t really matter. What matters is that I am sticking by what I believe.

I don’t see the point. How are you going to alt-tab back and forth between the game and Excel with a controller? Pfffft.

Edit: Do controllers even HAVE an autosum shortcut?

I know! I worked and slaved for 30 years only to find out they were right all along!

So here’s what you do. Retire. I play video games as long as I want. I sleep whenever I want for as long as want. It’s pretty great.

I don’t know anything about the NG+ system because I steered way clear of Starfield, but it sounds like somebody at Bethesda saw people playing Skyrim over and over and thought “How can we monetize that”, hence the grind you’re alluding to. They expected you to encounter it organically because of course the game was such hot shit everyone was gonna play it forever. Oops.

Call me a cynic if you want but these are the guys who invented paid cosmetics.

$20 million on microtransactions

Please don’t.

$73 million on games and DLC

$42 per person average? Those are rookie numbers!

Incompetence, poor planning, probably a healthy dash of managerial stupidity not listening to the engineers. And they never drill for this which is why it’s lasted so long. But having your expensive IT staff do regular disaster recovery drills is complex and expensive so almost nobody does it properly.

Recently retired from one of the major telcos. They would do DR exercises with tabletop discussions. No actual testing or hands on. Once I learned that I knew the first big disaster we had I was just gonna walk. It was that bad.

As a lifelong gamer and and an almost lifelong enjoyer of the despair of watching humanity defile our one and only home… duh.

Video games are weapons grade copium for smart people.

I do appreciate how hard it can be to tell the difference sometimes.

That’s… a lot of batteries for one tablet. Where are the other 18,647?

I think Destiny is the only game I ever put over 2,000 hours into, but Factorio might take the crown soon - 1800 and counting.

Well that didn’t tell me a damn thing about the game.

That’s ok, I took away my support for Apex Legends many seasons ago!

Their anti cheat has always been a joke anyway.

That’s a bad look. He may be smart but that’s really unprofessional. You call them whatever you want behind their backs. You don’t insult clients to their face no matter how stupid they are. He’s lucky he kept his job.

Huh. And here I’ve been a satisfied Steam user for 20 years. Weird.

Same. Pretty sure I own every Bethesda rpg right up through Fallout 4 and Skyrim. I just couldn’t be bothered with Fallout 76 bullshit, and the handful of my friends that played Starfield said it was just sad.

I don’t much care what they release next. It won’t hold a candle to BG3.

Best skills from video games:

Puzzle solving / abstract thinking

Hand / eye coordination

Not flying into a blind rage when playing Rocket League, Apex, Deadlock, etc.

Still working on that last one.

If somebody starts mouthing off I just his ESC and mute every other player. Makes for a much more enjoyable game.

Awesome. The lack of cosmetics for real money was the only thing holding this game back…

They have as much power over that as I do over my government selling bombs to Israel so they can blow up thousands of Palestinian children. Zero.

The Russian government had nothing to do with this game.

Maybe you’re right, I did play a LOT of Apex so maybe my brain misfired on this one, but I was playing Deadlock the other day and one of McGinnus’ lines instantly made me think “Damn, that was Commander Shepard!” I’ll have to listen closer next time I play and see if it’s really Bangalore I’m hearing.

Good, I wonder if they removed it for Xcom 2 yet. I haven’t played that since they sideloaded that crap into my steam install.
