There was only one dev for the original project, but he went by two names. (If someone else had taken up the work I don’t know, I got a steam deck and do all my emulation on that)

Stenzek was his original username, he changed it to Tahlreth to get away from his reputation. He had previously abandoned another project due to harassment that turned out to be over blown. He claimed people were stealing his code and could never prove it and claimed harassment and abandoned his project. Was also a dick to people and was banned from forums for his tone.

Pretty much as soon as I joined this discord he was a dick and claiming harassment, and at the time I didn’t even know it was the same person. I found out later, not too long before he quit this one.

And after he quit Aether he sabotaged the last build he uploaded by making it run worse and putting ads in it.

“If everywhere you go smells like shit, check your shoe”, honestly. Rude, crying all the time, claiming harassment, claiming theft of code, making up and then deleting death threats, etc. Several years of history of just horrible behavior

The dev actually got caught faking death threats at one point, and the dev routinely told users in his discord to kill themselves

The dev was a toxic person who had mental health issues. Not the first time they freaked out and claimed they were being targeted for harassment and throwing a hissy fit and leaving while being a toxic turd to so many people along the way

Told people to kill themselves for asking questions and actually got caught making up “evidence of targeted harassment” it was a pretty big issue in the community at the time. He made up death threats. For attention.

At first people were sympathetic until we learned this isn’t the first time this dev has done this

You can also find links to screen caps of how he was an asshole all of the time in his discord, banning people left and right for asinine reasons

I was never a participant in the discord only a passive observer who was their for the downloads section. If you were there you’d understand exactly what I was talking about.

They would say very hateful things to some users just for asking questions and on multiple occasions told people to kill themselves just for, get this, asking questions.

Amd it turned out that much of the harassment was faked by the dev, yes actually faked by a person for attention. It was a big controversy in the community at the time

Honestly, to me, the new Doom’s soundtrack is just as much of the game as the gameplay itself.

Having Mick attached has me immensely interested

Why so? I use SyncThing and I have no issues with it what so ever.

Steam offers many services to users and developers more than just being a simple storefront. They didn’t become top dog by virtue of being early, there are plenty of competing launchers that do not offer even a tenth of what steam offers.

I ended up getting a steam deck after being an owner of multiple GPD products and dealing with windows on those. I considered a Go, but I’m done with windows handhelds. I hope either steamOS catches on as a mainstream or all the other hardware manufacturers get together and decide to all use Linux.

I tried Linux on a GPD Win 2, it was a such a nightmare that I’m not interested in any handhelds that dont COME with Linux either. I want proper driver support and not be forced to spend hours and hours diagnosing why my screen is either sideways or only showing half

I used JoyToKey for years, but I’ll add that you can make a desktop binding for steam, if you keep it on in the background anyways

It’s a bit more complex macro system and you can use on screen menus and such if that’ll improve your workflow. I used a gamepad as my mouse for almost 5 years in everything I did.

Valve has followed through on this, too, they provide multiple services I find so convenient I’d rather buy games than pirate. Simple one click multiplayer without any port forwarding nonsense, the steam input API, the workshop (which, imo could be a better mod manager overall, but most games usually have mod managers in the workshop you can use)

And games go on sale so often it’s super easy to just buy it at 75% off anyways.

I don’t simp for billionaires normally, but Gaben isn’t full of shit at least.

Can you imagine the ego stroking it must be to have an entire genre named after your work?

They probably could have had a case against the first game to market itself as such, but I think once the terminology gets utilized as a “common term”, you can’t do anything. It’s why Nintendo in the 80s and 90s was so fucking adamant on pushing parents away from calling any and every home game console a Nintendo

Fromsoft would have 0 ground if they wanted to today, but honestly, again, I think it’s one of those things thats such a pedestal that there would be no reason to go after it.

I like ACG because it never feels like he’s trying to sell me anything

I mean, unless something has changed in theater few years, Gabe owns only about a quarter of Valve

Fuck yeah, now I can enjoy Sex with Hitler 2 in peace

(For the love of God please know this is a joke)

At this point I really only watch ACG, he seems the most honest out of them all.

Seems like most reviews are afraid to say bad stuff about a game until the general consensus has turned against it.

They make money from this, and I think many feel they’ll be locked out of getting review copies if they don’t “play ball” with these companies.

Denuvo has an impact on performance for many games, so they artificially inflated the performance, and some people don’t buy games with Denuvo on principle, many reviewers will note that in their video.

I think anyone who reviewed it should publish a secondary videos explaining this.

This seems like it’s legitimately false advertising

Ive owned a steam controller for several years and regularly use gyro aim in many games that aren’t competitive.

But again, it’s still behind a traditional mouse as far as accuracy. There are tons of videos on this, even aim training software has data about this.

Not according to literally every test ever done on it. It always falls behind far enough to not be viable competitively

“Game not targeting handheld hardware doesn’t run on handheld hardware”

CSGO was made entirely for the purpose of being a console game, no body played it on console so they abandoned it

You are perfectly capable of setting on the couch at any time. The computer does not stop this. You are actively making the decision to not sit on a couch, as an adult you’re allowed to do this.

Valve caters more to the casual scene than most companies do by allowing custom servers and an in game custom server browser.

How much more casual can it get?

…it’s a competitive shooter it’s not targeting handhelds.

This was a board decision, not the CEO as an individual.

They are all equally resonate and if they fire him it’s to save face and kick him as a scape goat

Edit, I didn’t block him, he’s being a troll I guess.

Firstly, I can tell you only skimmed that and haven’t actually read it because it contradicts multiple points you made in this and the previous comment. Like, actually read it before trying to use it as a source.

“Everyone who disagrees with me is circle jerking”

Lol, okay buddy. You’re a tad bit cringe

Like, “As such, this means that low level access to all the rendering server structures needs to be exposed via GDExtension.” Says it right there, in the page you linked. “Often developers need to implement rendering techniques, post processing effects, etc. that don’t come bundled with the engine.” You have to do some of it yourself, which means ITS VIABLE. Again, not on parity, but viable. Again, not feature complete, not as polished, but viable.

And on streaming “Of the above, most are relatively straightforward to implement”, meaning that users can already do this, the article even mentions how much of the ground work is just handed to you. I’m not arguing the point on if this should be fully implemented by the dev team to come fully prepackaged, im simply telling you that you’re wrong about godot not being viable. It should come by default, but it’s still easy to do. Again, if your point is it should come default, I agree with that.

I can tell you’re just being argumentive for the sake of it, so I’m just going to ignore you from here on out. You aren’t adding anything constructive and you’re not capable of reading something YOU linked, so you’re not worth the time or effort.

I remember when I first started using Unity years and years ago and people like you would just talk shit about it non stop. I remember when I started using blender in middle school and people like you should just talk shit about it.

I didn’t say it was feature parity with Unity, 90% of Unity games don’t require most of the features Unity has that Godot lacks.

Streaming is not the only solution to efficiently loading assets

The VFX is not lacking from Unity in anyway other than not having Unity’s specific tools for organizing them, the Shader and VFX graph. It lacks access to the stencil buffer right now, but not much else. You can still make any shader in Godot that you can make in Unity.

W4 is opening a dedicated paid store.

Godot can run native C++, making it more optimized than Unity in several areas. DOTS can out do it in some areas, but again native C++ is still faster.

You have direct access to Godot’s render pipeline code so no idea what you mean by ‘low level’, no idea how’d you get lower level than direct access to the render pipeline itself.

The fact that you don’t recognize Godot as a viable alternative just proves you don’t actually have any dev experience yourself

It was decided that game engine development was over complicating the goal of Blender. It detracted from actual 3D software development resources and trying to make all blender features seamless with it was nearly doubling potential work.

I remember the Witcher 3 had some pretty shitty interactions with DLSS, too
