The stories may be trash but I do enjoy the setting and aesthetics these games have. My favorite AC is Unity; I love running around during the French Revolution. The work they did on the buildings was outstanding
Unity is still one of the best looking games they’ve made in the series. As buggy as it was at launch, they did so many things graphically that are just now starting to appear again.
They did this for Origins too and the story was still trash. 🤷♂️
Valhalla was also kinda iffy. I think they have their silent fanbase that adores the games and they’re coasting on that.
I loved Origins and Odyssey, but i agree that Valhalla was dull. I blame the setting honestly. Instea dof the beautiful fjords of Norway we got britain. and not the cool era like Syndicate’s Victorian era
Yeah I didn’t finish Valhalla. I really enjoyed Origins and Odyssey, finished them both and almost all the additional stuff (excepting collectathons). But Valhalla felt like such a departure from AC, the combat was clunky, hardly any parkour.
I respect that they tried something very different, but I’m glad I only played it on subscription because it only cost me a months-worth rather than buying a full copy. Hoping the next one can find a way to stay true to what makes AC great, while introducing enough new systems to keep it feeling fresh. A difficult tightrope to balance on, I guess!
Well yeah, people on gaming social media have been trashing Ubisoft games since like Far Cry 4 nearly a decade ago. Something something same game something something radio towers, etc. If reddit’s opinion had been that of the majority of the gaming community, Ubisoft would’ve gone out of business years ago.
Personally, I was buying Ubisoft games up until about a year ago because they were fun, but a string of games with terrible gimmicks (like turning Ghost Recon into a looter shooter and dumbing down character abilities in Watch Dogs in order to supplement a “play as anyone” ability nobody really asked for) along with the continued lack of action regarding the sexual harassment problems has ended that.
Seems like I’m not the only one, considering Ubisoft has been reporting disappointing sales.
Origins was the best in recent memory by far. Great revenge story that added some cool lore to the Assassin faction that the rest of the franchise stems from.
I played it because I am interested in Egypt, not because I like the franchise. I was not impressed with the story. Tropey yawner revenge plot painted in Hollywood style Egypt. The world was well done, but boy do I regret not just playing the Discovery Tour.
Is there meant to be a link attached to this post?
Edit: Yeah, looks like OP works for a gaming news site but hasn’t fully figured out how to add links to their posts.
Seems like there so many of them in [email protected] at the moment, all without links and additional information, that it’s almost starting to feel like spam.
