It’s essentially Unreal Engine for kids, Roblox and Minecraft were both huge in how much freedom they provided the player.

Glad someone else mentioned Metro, those games look fucking amazing. Last Light on 360 looks like an early PS4 game it’s so good.

Haven’t played Hello Neighbor, but I assume that the neighbor is just their self insert character for the leads.

If I had a controller for my phone, it would be my primary gaming device. The DS thing of pretty much being able to pause and walk away from the game at any time is awesome.

I mean how else is Bethesda supposed to justify charging $60 for the same game reskinned?

You know one of the OG creators for Fallout is trans right? One of the people who created the ARM architecture used for pretty much everything is trans. Striped thigh highs are called programmer socks for a reason.

Just because you’re a weirdly racist asshole doesn’t make that the gamer identity. By non-gamers, you just mean people who aren’t weirdly racist assholes like you. They still play games. Shit, they make them. Idk go play Shadow the Hedgehog or something bro

First game I remember with it was Hotline Miami, where it worked quite well for the game. I’d say the tape rewind from that game is iconic. But yeah, it’s normally just cheap points for le epic retro gamers

This is facts. I’m a zoomer. AAA games haven’t meant shit to people my age for the most part. The 3 undebatable most important games of my generation are Minecraft, Five Nights at Freddy’s, and Undertale. Talk to any gamer under the age of 25-30 and they will likely agree with at least 2/3 of those. All those games started with one person dicking around. We’re fully in the era where the formula is starting to stink like piss because it’s so stale. We’re going to see a “crash” of sorts soon, the infinite growth these shitty publishers have seen off games as a service isn’t infinite

It’s not quite the same, but did you play No More Heros? One of the best Wii games, made by the same studio. It’s so fucking sick.

It’s weird sometimes, but I heavily fw degrees of lewdity.

I had my fingers crossed that someone was gonna pop in and start shitting on Zelda or something else of the sort that would get a ton of people going

What mechanics are you talking about?

I mean something good can start trends that are annoying. I love the first Avengers movie, but at some point the oversupply of Marvel shit with all the clones made it annoying at some point.

It’s just not the same. Activision could say whoever the fuck has been paying for the COD DLC timed exclusively contributes to that DLC and it probably wouldn’t be wrong, wouldn’t make it any less bullshit.

EXACTLY! When Fortnite released? Fine, it can be on its own launcher. It’s annoying, but Epic made it, they can release it how they want. But to buy games that are already on Steam/coming to steam and just to take them off Steam? Bullshit.

Upvoted for providing one of the few real hot takes in this thread. I’m a huge MGS fan, but I can see why people wouldn’t like it. MGS plays with realism a lot, all while also playing with ideas from Hollywood. It makes for a very strange mix.

I like Morrowind, but I think you should consider Oblivion’s writing. No it’s not perfect, the main story is absolutely ass but everything else? Oblivion Theifs Guild and Dark Brotherhood absolutely SHIT on the Morang Tong. The gray fox, Lucienne, Lex, just absolutely insane! Not as immersive as Morrowind, however I’d say that the blend between the open world and the linear story is just paved perfectly in some of the Oblivion’s quests

Yeah, I’m mostly fine with Sony’s exclusives. I don’t love exclusives, but Sony funds a lot of games from the start. Their exclusives would often not exist without their funding. You know what I have a huge fucking problem with though? Microsoft buying companies and games already in progress to make exclusive. Microsoft has not contributed to Starfield, they haven’t contributed to any Activision games, all they’re doing is taking shit that would have existed with or without Microsoft and holding them hostage. They even did this with the OG Halo, it was originally supposed to be a Mac OS game.

All the companies do this, but Microsoft is by far the worst in recent memory. At least Sony and Nintendo actually make good games to hide it. They don’t built their entire game libraries on buying other people’s shit.

RIGHT? It’s so much more intuitive. Last time I played, I played on an OG steam controller and that was better than a regular controller, but Wiimote for RE4 is unbelievably great. I’ve gotten so much flack for this, but with the game’s semi-tank controls, the Wiimote is perfect for it!

Gaming hot takes?
Any weird/controversial opinions? I'll start. Before the remake, the best version of Resident Evil 4 was the Wii version. The Wiimote controls old Resi's tank controls better than any other controller at the time. The PC version had a bunch of little bugs and detractors that the Wii version just doesn't have. I'll extend this by saying that the Wiimote is actually pretty damn good for shooters, and particularly good for accessibility. Not having to cramp up my hands to press buttons is awesome for having arthritis. Aiming with the Wiimote and moving with the nunchuck just feel really natural, you barely have to move your fingers for anything.

I have epilepsy and schizophrenia, Cruelty Squad goes hard af

I haven’t played Planetside 2 in forever so I could be wrong, but I was playing that game on my shit box I made in 2011. Planetside 2 would probably run great on steam deck, but because it’s an FPS MMO (a mature MMO at that, lots of ) I think you’re gonna get your ass blasted by the whales if you’re not using a mouse for aim. That’s pretty much the only heads up I have on the game though.

It makes no sense to put it in games. Who would actually ask for Blockchain in games? Even the BAYC games ran on Web 2.0, pretty much separate from the Blockchain. It was just a gatekeeper for it

I googled it and there is an English translation available for it if you ever wanna emulate it!

My Dad had it in our Xbox when I was a kid, I could never get into it. However he said it was a fantastic sim-type shooter.

Completely forgot about Viva Pinata, never played it because I assumed it was another generic platformer. Is it worth checking out?

Someone else in this thread made me aware that there IS a sequel on the 3ds. It just never came out outside Japan. However there is an English translation ROM, so if you wanna play it bust out the emulators!

I’m starting up og Rocket Slime again right now and it’s still just as great and charming as a I remember it. Maybe a little simple, there are times you can definitely tell it’s made for children, but it’s one of the few non-nintendo games that have tapped into that amazingly childish energy. I typed in my name and slimes made my name on the top screen! Or can’t forget about The Plob, that name alone makes me crack up

There was multiplayer, it just wasn’t online! Rocket Slime actually had the feature that would allow people that owned a DS but not the OG game to download it through your DS onto theirs and play it temporarily. But yeah I know what you mean, I haven’t played in years but I remember there really isn’t much to do after all the art is back and you got the Hero Sword from the post game Arena. Gotta say though, that final boss battle is fucking amazing and has the most kickass music ever.

I probably replayed Rocket Slime more than any other game as a child. I lost my first copy as a kid. I wasn’t a very fussy kid, normally I’d just roll with whatever. One of my babysitters accidentally threw away my copy of Pokemon Emerald and I just rolled with it because I didn’t want my parents to spend the $10 it would have cost for the loose cart at GameStop. When I personally lost Rocket Slime though? Literally inconsolable. My Dad wasn’t moved by random fussing, but he quickly recognized that this wasn’t just me “losing a toy”. My ass stopped playing video games for weeks until my step mom found a new copy.

Sorry, just had to rant about how much I FUCKING love this game

Holy shit someone else had Over the Hedge on DS as a kid? This thread is making me feel so good as a kid that bought loose carts from behind the GameStop and Vintage Stock counters. I genuinely believe that Over The Hedge is one of the reasons I loved Metal Gear and Assassin’s Creed so much as a kid

Dark cloud! I remember buying a PS2 from my cousins in 2012 and it came with Dark Cloud. It was my first introduction to Rogue Like games. Managed to scratch the Zelda itch while having an entire identity of its own

One Finger Death Punch is one of the few games I can look at and genuinely call it perfect. It’s really simple, but there is literally nothing I’d change about them. It doesn’t do anything more than it needed to do, and I love it for that.

Oh man Alice! I actually never played it, but I have great memories of the game. One of the first graphics cards I ever got had an Alice graphic printed super big on the box for Madness Returns release. Think it was around the GTX 500 series.

Nitrome games were the absolute shit! I loved playing Skyline with my little sister. Or that game where you play as the cats shooting arrows. Or fat cat. Or that one game with the cactus on the rail cart! I get reminded of them fairly often, but it always feels like it’s been too long since anybody has spoken about them because they’re so great.

God Nitrome was like the Nintendo of flash games, it was so amazing. One of my earliest tech memories was making an email account so I could contact them about working for them when I was a 6 year old on my grandma’s computer. At some point, my email signature randomly changed to “deadname and Nitrome” and it made me so excited! So glad Nitrome didn’t die with flash, the thought of those games disappearing made me cry

There’s a 3ds version??? Thank you for telling me about this. I just looked up footage and it looks absolutely amazing. The Slime series has such unique gameplay, I really can’t think of any other game that comes even close to scratching that itch. One of the only games I’ve ever played where I can’t even compare it to other games, other than calling it a mishmash of all of the best Nintendo ideas

That’s a pretty bold statement, given how many WADs have been made. However reading about it, it sounds like you may be right. Love DOOM engine FPSs, definitely checking this out!

Nintendo essentially rebranded the GameCube for 3 console generations, I assume they’ll do the same with the Switch. Don’t expect anything better than a slightly out of date Android tablet by the time it comes out. This is great for devs though.

I’m sure it’ll pop up soon. Swap subreddits were maintained with Heatware anyways, a lot of that was done as a third party thing. I’m assuming the API changes are fucking up swap subreddits a bit

Wish they’d just start porting old games and sell them for a buck or two a pop like the old days of the app store. I’d kill for a Rocket Slime port with decent controls.

My first PC ever was built because I really wanted to play modded Skyrim, Minecraft, and Metro 2033. i3 3225 and a 7750, later upgraded to a 2500k with a 7950. That machine was insanely badass. When the i5 and 7950 were overclocked, they outperformed my brother’s 4th gen i5 with a 970.

Unity is still one of the best looking games they’ve made in the series. As buggy as it was at launch, they did so many things graphically that are just now starting to appear again.

Bumped for Vita love. Tearaway was FUCKING insane, the PS4 has the touchpad so it can get close but it’s not as seamless as the Vita did it. Another game that fits this bill is Gravity Rush. That game is amazing.

I remember the Vita from my middle school days, I played Black Ops Declassified online all the time. Played first season of Walking Dead on there and just remembering crying at 5 in the morning after that ending. Also used it to watch all my nsfw shit until I got a phone. Good times

What’s your favorite game you never hear anybody talk about?
Mine has to be Dragon Quest: Rocket Slime, a DS spin off of the Dragon Quest series that sees you playing as a slime operating a tank and rescuing the people from your town. You run around the overworld, collecting items to use as ammunition and saving money to upgrade your tank. The art and music are just as great as you'd expect from the Dragon Quest series. It made fantastic use of the DS's dual screens. It's also written for a younger audience, so a lot of it is just really silly and fun! Try it out for sure, I'm so sad there's no sequel :(
