Publisher Xbox Game Studios and developer Halo Studios have announced Halo: Campaign Evolved for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC (Steam, Microsoft Store). It will launch in 2026.
It is just me or is this is a weird thing to make?
They already remastered Halo:CE in the Master Chief Collection. I know it was criticized as a bad remaster, but it’s weird to just do it again before…
Halo 3 still doesn’t have a remaster. Why didn’t they remaster/remake Halo 3 instead?
It’s been obvious for years now that 343/Halo Studios has no good ideas left Halo franchise anymore, and this just further proves that.
The Halo IP created an interesting world and framework for countless compelling stories. It was time to leave Master Chief behind a long time ago and make some compelling spinoffs. Reach and ODST (to a lesser extent) were successful. It’s so frustrating AAA studios are so terrified of trying anything new.
I hope they at least make it a DLC to the Master Chief collection which did a good job of consolidating the series. I suspect this will be standalone and be confusing when people try to “Buy Halo 1”.
343, even while part ex-Bungie devs, had no idea what made Halo… well, Halo. No matter how many time they tried, they couldnt nail it. Like every reboot ever pretty much.
I really enjoyed halo infinity. They also can’t take away the thousands of hours i played in LAN parties and xbox live. It is sad that it is no longer the best party fps anymore, split screen is gone, and it is homogenized with every othet shooter since 2007.

The CE remaster was done by an outside company, and they based it on the gearbox PC port. So they didn’t realise that all the glitches and bugs in the gearbox version shouldn’t have been there. To 343’s credit, when they “took ownership” of it in the MCC, they did fix a lot of those issues. Turns out having the original devs and artists still hanging around helps.
It is literally just a shiny coat of paint over the old engine though, so things like collisions are using the original map geometry while rendering uses the upgraded ones. There’s a few places (on the level “Halo” iirc) where you can get stuck on invisible things that you can only see by turning off the new graphics.
2. Halo 3 still doesn’t have a remaster. Why didn’t they remaster/remake Halo 3 instead?
Because the PlayStation fanboys want an origin story, not the end of a three-games-worth-of-story trilogy. They’re probably going to release MCC on PS5 in 2027
It’s not entirely in the Unreal Engine 5. They use it on top of their old engine if I understand it correctly. Probably similar to how Oblivion Remake was handled. But from the gameplay, it was not entirely smooth. On the other hand, this is still in development. If the rest of the game runs like this, it will be okay.
Even if there was, would you buy it? Just looking at everything the company is currently doing to destroy the brand, should be enough to turn anyone off. Even if you are a diehard of Halo or Gears or Fallout etc, you can play then on, apparently, anything else.
I think back to the 360 days, all the fun, the friends I made, the games I played, and its heart breaking seeing what its been turned into by this gaggle of cave brained cunts who seek profits over fun.
Yeah I’m out. I never got a series X/S. I still play my One X and don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything. I’ve already decided my next “console” will be a PC running Linux in the living room with some controllers.
Speaking to Variety, Xbox president Sarah Bond notes that the company is working on hardware. While some of the interview focuses on the recently-released ROG Xbox Ally devices, Bond does outright confirm that Microsoft has “next-gen hardware in development.”
So here’s the thing. They can say whatever they want. Stores are still pulling Xbox hardware from sale. That is the canary in the coal mine. Microsoft isn’t coming back to the market after that. Especially not with an overpriced console that has no exclusives.
Their current trajectory, is almost identical to that of Sega’a post Dreamcast.
Sega did the same with Dreamcasts still on the shelf, had them discounted and removed from sale in stores while announcing they were still working on more hardware.
One year later: just kidding. SEGA now only make software / Sonic games.
Microsoft is absolutley just about to do the same with Halo and Xbox.
Here’s an article from Sega in 2001 about the death of the Dreamcast being overrated because of Segas future hardware plans (that later never materialized).
It reads almost exactly like the one you just posted from Microsoft.
They say they’re working on new hardware every time they make their software worse so people think xbox is still worth it. I wouldn’t be surprised if the statement is just talking about a prebuilt windows PC that boots straight into game mode and they aren’t actually working on a proper console.
Fucking crazy that they’ve had the franchise for fourteen years and still can’t design clear cisuals. The fucking lighting engine makes the enemies blend into the background like, god I hate how they make games now.
Wonder how far Halo 7 is. Is it going to be 5+ years from this remake. So 10+ years from Infinite. I wouldn’t be surprised if they followed their times tradition of 4, 5, and Infinite where they hard swerve to a new major antagonist
Halo 4 had some build up to its antagonist. It was like the flood, where the level introduces an unknown enemy force, and you have to fight until someone tells you why the force is trying to stop you, then continue to fight said force until the end of the game. The buildup fights only differ in tone: CE meant for the player to panic throgh fear, and H4 tries to make the player panic by having Cortana shout at Master Chief “go faster we’re in danger”
I don’t know. It’s just the series has had no conviction post-Bungie so I bet on them throwing darts at a wall until they finally have an antagonist, while off screening the previous games antagonist, thats an immediate hit with gamers. Each games antagonist aren’t fundamentally bad, they just do a bad job developing them. 8 hour campaigns where they tease for a sequel and end up with a non-compelling narrative. 3 games in a row of that

They remastered CE for its 10th anniversary in 2011, MCC’s only new addition was the Halo 2 remaster
It’s Unreal Engine 5… rest in peace.

Source? I have read it’s remade in Unreal Engine 5. Havent seen anything about it using the Blam engine. (Oblivion remake sucked too).
Unfortunately I don’t have a source. Hopefully this is not a thing of misinformation from me. Gimme sec… ah it was just rumored. I don’t know if this is true: https://wccftech.com/halo-combat-evolved-remake-ue5-blam-engine-gameplay-tweaks/
Hm, well we will find out I guess.
Halo is such a hollowed out and rotten franchise.
So… there’s never going to be another Xbox?
Highly doubt it. IF they do release something it’ll probably be a streaming box. but yeah I doubt they’re going to release another console.
The most recent episode of Skill Up’s weekly show did say that the next Xbox will be a premium thing (aka $$$$$$)

That’s corpo PR speak. That doesn’t say anything
okay go ahead and ignore the company’s official statement answering your question then

Hopefully there is splitscreen this time
They said 2-player splitscreen on console.
WTF…
Hardware well over 100x more powerful, but still 0.5x the split screen.

Looks pretty good so far.
