I remember one of the modders behind a UI overhaul talking about the response to paid mods, when users kept saying that a donation system was better, that in the entire time they’d been making the mod they’d only gotten like $50 in donations total.

Edit: And seeing modders use patreon now for support, and those mods still getting “pirated”, I don’t think the issue was ever about Bethesda or how they handled it.

I should have and honestly might have, been long enough that I don’t remember that aspect.

So in the same week back in 2013 I did 2 things.

1. Buy a Star Citizen package with the game and a ship with lifetime insurance
2. Buy a 3 pack of hand built laser pointers from a local online store

Now the price wasn’t exactly the same, but close enough that I considered them equal. A week after buying the laser pointers I get an email saying that parts were on back order and there’d be a delay.

A week after that, their entire online store presence vanished, and they stopped responding to emails about my order.

To this day I’m still more salty about the laser pointers, since at least RSI keep sending me emails with updates.

It might not have sit well with the fans - he might take a big swing and miss - but at least I felt like he was trying to create art instead of merely making money.

Same, I actually loved how his story had Rey as a “nobody” whose choices and actions were what made her important, SW has way too many special bloodlines, prophecies, and chosen ones.

Then Abrams does a 180 in the sequel 😑

Valve said the same about EA when they used them to publish the Orange Box, seems they’re great as partners but not owners.

I’m not sure why they’re separate, but I thought it had the progress import that the other versions did? So you just load your existing player into the new version instead of starting from scratch.

I love a good detective game.

It’s in my backlog, so at my current rate I assume I’ll get around to it within 20-30 years.

I hate political games. That’s why my favourite is Fallout New Vegas, no woke politics, just a good, simple tale about a man delivering a package.

No matter what you’ve got to compile the shaders, either on launch or when needed. The game should be caching the results of that step though, so the next time it’s needed it can be skipped entirely.

The steam social/discussion stuff is a cesspit of racism, misogyny, homophobia, etc., has been for quite a while.

Well there was Joseph Staten, worked on CE/2/3/ODST, went with Bungie when they became independent, then rejoined MS and ended up being “Head of Creative” on Halo Infinite.

I quite liked the locale in FC5, but the (nearly?) unavoidable captures the game would force on you when you did too much open world stuff annoyed the hell out of me.

Then I had the ending spoiled for me and I just got too annoyed at the story planners and never touched it again.
