My name is Jess. I build and manage servers for both work and fun. I also occasionally make music.
Intuitively it always seemed like there was a sweet spot. Too short a period and there’s not enough time to build hype or (more importantly) fix the issues revealed by Early Access. Too long a period and people forget about your game, and EA players got everything they wanted out of it before launch, so have little reason to come back and boost visibility w/ player numbers.
It’s nice to have some hard data to back this up and put an objective measure on where that sweet spot is.
Minor bug fixes and improvements.

It annoys me more than it should how many software projects straight up don’t bother with patch notes. Have you ever looked at the ones for your phone apps? They usually just copy paste the same meaningless sentence(s) every update. Sometimes they’re straight up ads.
It’s so wild that media outlets still talk about video games like they’re some new fad that surprisingly makes a lot of money.
It’s a multi billion dollar industry that’s been around since the 1970s. It’s literally older than the internet. Video games aren’t a disruptor. It’s been traditional media for decades now.
The official VR support for Minecraft Bedrock was garbage anyways. I never got it working with the HTC Vive or the Valve Index, but AFAIK its feature set was limited.
Vivecraft for Minecraft Java has way more features, is incredibly customizable regarding controls and comfort settings, and works with a wide range of headsets. It’s been a bit since I’ve booted it up, but every time I jump back in, I’m delighted at just how well it works.
It’s frustrating how often people need to be reminded of this. Nintendo has repeatedly shown incredible hostility to their greatest fans over the years, and they show no signs of stopping.
They’ve also done immeasurable harm to game preservation, to their own library and others. I cannot ever forgive them for this. Unless you play games in whatever specific way is blessed at the time, they will make every effort to sabotage it. Please do not enable this behavior.
Just get an emulator on PC / Steam Deck. The most likely reason Nintendo went so hard on Switch emulators last year is because they will be able to emulate Switch 2 games with little tweaking (probably just new keys / BIOS). They’ve confirmed it’s backwards compatible with Switch games, which strongly supports this hypothesis.
They’re not good guys, they’re just behind.
You got that right, but at least they aren’t as hostile to the industry as NVIDIA while they are behind.
If you don’t mind throwing money at diminishing returns while financially supporting anti-consumer and anti-board partner behavior, there’s not much else to say.
I don’t think Factorio ever goes on sale but imo it’s worth full price.
If you like Satisfactory, there’s an extremely high chance you’ll like Factorio. The main differences are the obvious 2D top-down vs 3D 1st person and Factorio has a robust military/combat system with base defense while Satisfactory is mostly peaceful unless you’re exploring.
I would argue this is an intended play style. They made camping and the natural world extremely detailed on purpose.
