after long day at my job, i just wanna kick back and relax. maybe holding a controller instead of keyboard and mouse would be nice.
i like stardew valley but the experience with controller is just poor. it’s just not designed to work that way (even with the controller mod). thus the question. Any cool ideas?
I have only ever played Stardew with a controller so I’m just wondering in what way is it not good? Because for some menus the right stick is emulating a mouse? Or targeting things?
May I suggest turning the always face target (or whatever it’s called) option on? It makes a big difference in how using tools works with a controller.
The game that Stardew Valley blatantly copied - Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town.
It was made for the GBA, so has straightforward and precise controls, with none of the irritating camera or targeting complications that come with making the game 3D.
There are other later games in the Harvest Moon franchise with better graphics, but like Stardew Valley with a gamepad, they tend to have irritatingly imprecise controls. Friends of Mineral Town, with its isometric 2D, doesn’t have that problem.
There’s a modern remake called Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town. It’s isometric and cross-platform so I’m hoping the controller support would be decent.
I’ve literally only ever played it with controller, except for about fifteen minutes with mouse and keyboard.
Hundreds of hours on the Switch, and now over a hundred hours on the Steam Deck (holy shit mods, even just QoL ones and being able to zoom out farther, make the game so much better).
What specifically do you have a hard time doing using controller? I know placing fences can be a big pain, but that’s pretty much it in my experience.
Palia. It’s free on Xbox and PlayStation. Has in game purchases but I’ve never bought one. My fiancee started playing it recently and ask me to play. You can grow a farm, it’s 3D, get a glider, run around and do missions. (MMO) Play with others and get bonuses in XP. I’m only about 3 hrs gameplay so far. It’s cross platform because she plays Xbox, so if that helps… idk
Edit: also fishing, chopping wood, story lines idk. It’s worth checking out if you have time/access.
Edit 2: my fiance wanted me to say they have a Halloween event going on right now, and they have gatherings/events to encourage people to meet each other and team up and help each other grow
It’s been a minute but i think i know what might be bugging you about the controls. If it’s the having to move and look with the same control, check the settings. There might be a way to adjust it.
As for other options…
-The Farming Simulator games are great for controller.

I quite liked Fields of Mistria though its still early access.
KB/M is a little easier for placing things but its not at all bad with a gamepad.

Cattle Country on switch. I am having a lot of fun and it is different enough to feel fresh!
Travellers rest is amazing. Still early acess but has tons of stuff already.
I only played the demo of it but Luma Island seemed quite nice.
Discounty has been fun, a supermarket simulator. It’s more story driven than Stardew and less open ended but similar vibes.
