I’m not the guy who’s been posting screenshots for 315 (!) days now, but I just got lies of P from a giveaway (Thanks again @[email protected]), and i wanted to talk about it.
It’s a souls-like, so this “review” might not make much sense if you haven’t played one.
So, i just completed the tutorial zone, having beaten the first boss on my first try, and i have a few thoughts:
They nailed it, the weapons are satisfying to use and the parry system is super satisfying, I’ve barely used the dodge, if at all. It kind of feels like a mix of elden ring and sekiro, but also with a lot of unique elements like the weapon durability and critical hit system that forces you to mix in the heavy attacks to get criticals.
The “La belle epoque” aesthetic mixed with the steampunk-y tech of Krat (the city the game takes place in) is beatiful, and the graphics, while impressive looking, don’t tank my fps, which is nice. The game does a good job justifying it’s souls-like mechanics (bonfire, leveling, ect…) The story hasn’t had much time to develop at my point in the game, but the intrigue of what happened to the puppets (main enemies in the game) to make them all start attacking people and the mystery of what/who the main character is has me hooked already (I also like the pinnochio elements!) The puppet designs are interesting, especially the first boss, I’m hopeful the devs will be able to keep it up throughout the full game.
Worst part of the game so far, and by that I mean still good, It’s just everything else is better. It’s kind of linear and doesn’t feel as natural as From Software games.
Overall I really like it so far, and by far it’s my favorite non-fromsoft souls-like. I’m happy I’m playing completely blind, thanks to not having to look at reviews to know if i should buy it.

That’s awesome, thanks for sharing!
I’ll be honest, I couldn’t get into it much myself for some reason but I know that it’s pretty well regarded anyway. Keep us updated, if you’d like.
Thank you! I’ll probably do a real review once I finish the game.
It’s VERY clear that the devs ADORE Bloodborne specifically. They have literally every mechanic that game has, even how backsteps change your attacks.
It also runs incredibly well considering how visually crisp and clear the game looks.
this game should have gotten more hype than it did
As an old souls player who doesn’t touch many new souls games, and only really goes back to Bloodborne, I can say this is the one souls game I played, dropped, then came back and finished. Very good game, very good systems. You can tell how much they loved Bloodborne specifically when making this game. It has a very similarly focused art style and I’m a big fan.
The parry system in this game rules. I think we got both a spiritual Bloodborne and Sekiro sequel in one game.
I don’t like soulslikes as a rule because I’d rather play actual souls games, but if it’s like bloodborne maybe I’ll try.
After trying Code Vein because of similar hype and dropping it 2 hours in, I expected the same from this game, but goddamn it’s phenomenal. Absolutely worth playing through. It feels like a love letter to Fromsoft, rather than trying to just do what they do - the inspiration is obvious, but it still feels like its own unique thing.
I actually finished code vein. I was in a dark place /lh
I feel like I should give this game a try but the awful name “Lies of P” is so bad it turns me off the game so hard lol.
I always read it as “Lies of Pie”
Its name is wordplay in Korean, where P means blood. But it is weird when translated.
