I pre ordered it. I had just finished building a new PC with just barely enough resources to handle it. Strangely enough I never encountered any of the bugs people complained about, so I was lucky.
I kept replaying it and heavily awaited the patch releases to see what the devs were going to fix and/or add. Been there since the beginning and play it through once a year (fully, clear the map of objectives every time). Simply put, I’m a fan.
I even was running it on Linux pretty much from day one (though certain patch numbers and updates to Nvidia drivers would occassionally break this compatibility). A small thing, but one that I greatly appreciated.
The driving mechanics to this day is the biggest pain point for me. Even though a patch at some point improved on it, it still feels wrong whenever going around a corner at even moderate speeds. There’s a reason most people opt to use motorcycles in the game (or use mods).
The story is well done IMHO. I feel like they could have spent way more time in the prologue section, fleshing out one particular character (anyone who’s played knows who I’m referring to). Other than that, I’m happy with only a few very small nitpicks.
The combat system is well fleshed out since patch 1.68, and iirc patch 2.0 brought some significant QOL changes. It’s fun and varies extensively depending on how you build out your character’s skill tree.
The atmosphere is perhaps the developers’ biggest achievement. The depiction of Night City is difficult to put into words. It feels lived in, and there are still areas of the map seasoned players are discovering. Other than the combat system, the environment is definitely one of the game’s strongest selling points.
Ever since patch 1.68, the game has run smoothly. I can’t run Ray Tracing or other high resource requiring features as my PC, again, is considered to be mid to low tier depending on who you’re talking to. But if you’re running a high end PC, the visuals are likely to be far more stunning for you.
If you do buy, definitely get the Phantom Liberty DLC, the side content adds quite a bit to the story, including a new ending, and is overall a fun addition to the entire experience.
Lastly, if you do dive in, enjoy yourself, and want more, I’d highly recommend watching the anime mini series, Cyberpunk: Edge Runners, which depicts a prequal to the events of the main game. And of course, if you’re really in love, perhaps get together with some friends and play the Table Top RPG.
Damn…this looks really good actually. I’m sad to day I never heard of cohost until now. But I’ll admit I just identify with the founder’s sentiments around the tech industry, and their strict adherence to moral values around how a platform like that should interact with their users. I wish their developers all the best in looking for new work.
Man this game and it’s sequel were so good. Were they the best writing or gameplay I ever saw? No. But the creators had a distinct and beautiful vision and they saw it through to the end. Really sad to hear this, but yeah, this is why Streaming Gaming Platforms need to offer the Download And Play Offline feature. You bought it, it’s yours. If you copy it and illegally distribute that, that’s your prerogative. But ultimately, that’s for you to decide, not the Gaming Platforms.
Meh. I have a 1px gap for all my windows on bspwm. But I also have no bar at all. I just commit one workspace to a full screen btop on session start.
Am I wasting screen space? Probably…at the end of the day, I feel more organized, but others could easily point out that ideally I’d have 0 gaps and no btop and no bar, and that would be best for organization. Afaic, it’s just personal preference.
Roflmao, yeah, it should be more along the lines of the “Yet Another Fantasy” series. False advertising is what that is /s.
Like The Never Ending Story.
The Luddites weren’t inherently anti technology. They specifically did not break technologies that were not being used by elite capitalists to exploit them and diminish the value of their labor.
You obviously haven’t taken the time to study the history of the Luddites and therefore fail to see why backlashes against exploitative uses of technologies are needed.
I have made art in oil, gouache watercolor, charcoal, and other physical mediums, as well as Photoshop, Illustrator, and 4 color screen prints. I’ve made classical, roccoco, formalist, and abstract art as well as even anime.
Ive coded in JavaScript, Python, Bash and C and continue to use plenty of tech and learn more about it every fucking day. And yeah, I’ve used AI to help make shitty images and occassionally code simple scripts.
I’ll not go into the whole moral problems of OpenAI exploiting Kenyan workers by trauamatizing them with horrific content to train their LLM.
Honestly, the piece of shit NFT apes were a better example of art than what AI is currently making, and the hype around AI right now is so similar it makes me laugh.
The worst artists and also coders I’ve met claim there’s no new ideas in either domain, just different mediums/languages to express them in. The problem with AI generated code and art is that it is GUARANTEED to not make anything new.
There’s a supreme cynicism in the way elite techno evangelist corporate assholes have basically taken all the data of the past 30+ years web scraped from all over the public internet and said that’s enough to mimic the skills , talents, and knowledge of all of humanity. Oh, and apparently it’s better than human works because we can just pay the human once, pay no royalties, scan their art, their faces, their texts, their voices, and just say fuck em cuz why the fuck would we care about continuing to support the amount of work that went into developing those talents when I can just reap the end results?
AI can’t exist in a vacuum, it needs more data to stay relevant, and if enough people starve it, corporations will have no choice but to meet the workers on their terms or simply close up shop, take their millions, and hope people don’t stumble on their version of Galt’s Gulch, cuz if they do, it’ll be mighty fine eating for the poor.
But hey yeah, let’s just blindly follow the Elon Musks, Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerbergs, Tim Cooks, and Sundar Pichais of the world and not ever question their business practices or regulate their monopolies or speculate on whether AI or VR or AR or whatever reality they want to insist is an “inevitable” future so much so that it is the lie that becomes truth solely because they had the power, influence, and money to make it so.
Personally I’d rather see the majority of people weigh in on what THEY want tech to do for them, and not have tech evangelists and corporate bootlicker lackeys insist on some ambiguous inevitable tech dystopia being unavoidable. Fuck that.
Cuz if there’s one thing that all these pieces of shit at the top of their tech empires have made abundantly clear to the public. It’s that Tech Won’t Save Us.
Yes. As much as I have loved this game from day 1 (yes, day 1), the lack of 3rd person option did irk me quite a bit.
Honestly I probably would have played 1st person the majority of the time, but the option to zoom out the camera and just watch my badass highly customizable character move around and interact with Night City would have been a very very nice addition to the game.
Ultimately, I think they just had to scrap to focus on other (probably less technically challenging) aspects of the game’s development.
The fact that they made an exception for this with the vehicles (now with combat as of version 2.0) points to the high probability they knew that 1st person throughout the entire game was probably gonna lose them some fanfare, so at least in the vehicles (especially the motorcycles), you can zoom out and see your customized V in all their glory.
I use joplin. A FOSS checklist and note taking app with cloud sync.
Android has tons of options. Libretube, Piped, etc.
Iphone you can use Brave, but I dislike visiting Youtube, so…

Or
TorrentFreak occassionally posts a list of sites, just use a good no logging VPN.
No, but there is a fork of atom being developed called Pulsar.
You can open up ublock origin, noscript, or even just your network manager in your browser’s devtools console to take a look. I just remember it being a lot.
The YouTuber trafotin does a good job showcasing how to best harden it, but unlike most sites, discord has made their app unusable unless you allow pretty much all of their trackers through.
Well, tencent did make a sizable investment in Reddit a few years back.

But then again r/fuckthecpp was a pretty active sub that received pretty much no censorship from the CCP as far as I know.
I try and avoid Discord though …they farm way too much data. I use it only when co workers insist on using the platform, but I always begrudgingly mention Matrix clients like Element instead.
Pretty much all the games of my childhood. With a few exceptions, I don’t replay most games I enjoyed. I play once, usually say “that was cool.” And call it enough for a lifetime.
