With new parts yes, but except for a brief period after a new console is released you can buy used PC parts for playing games of similar graphically fidelity for about the same price or slightly cheaper.

It has always been a “Which game has the bigger fan base” contest 🤷‍♂️

I don’t think I ever agreed with the nominations or the the final winners, because they never make any sense other than through the hype and fan-base lens.

That seems very unlikely as the Switch was incredibly successful and Nintendo has no reason to merge with anyone.

The only one of the three big console producers that is likely to change to a different model regarding hardware is Microsoft. Maybe they will not drop out entirely, but it is unlikely that they will try to compete again with a future PS6.

And Sony is still complaining about bad sales… I wonder if Microsoft will even bother with another console again. I guess they will pull a SEGA and just start selling games on other consoles.

Valve should partner up with them for 1st party SteamVR support. It has good hardware and would be a good stop-gap replacement for the aging Index while Valve’s next gen headset will still take some time to be released most likely.

veloren.net is a lot of fun already with friends, especially if you look up some of the admin commands an spawn in some cool flying mounts.

With https://vcmi.eu/ HoMM3 is a real consideration as it allows simultaneous turns in multiplayer.

Currently https://cheogram.com/ (an advanced Conversations fork)

But the new Conversations 3.0 UI overhaul should be released soon.

Honourable mention for a great looking work in progress: https://moxxy.org/ (not suitable as a daily driver yet)

I think this is a very important idea. Not only because of potential collapse and to conserve resources, but also because in your technological civilisation it is a near certainty that future generations will have to deal with legacy technology and software potentially hundreds of years old that are serving vital functions. Thus thinking now about how such systems could work in the long term and developing hardware and software with that in mind is IMHO quite vital.

Lemmygrad.ml is all I need to say 😑

I don’t know the exact motivations of the Lemmur developer, but 2022 surfaced a lot of community break-points here and it is no secret that the main Lemmy developers at least tolerate if not partially endorse some pretty insufferable people on the Lemmy instances they run.

What about “waste heat utilisation of nuclear electricity production” is too hard for you to understand? I still challenge you to find a single non-military, non-experimental nuclear energy use example that is not done for electricity production. Good luck finding one.

District heating was not among the non-electricity use-cases you talked about that time. But this is still nuclear electricity production, just with some heat recycling added, so I stand by my point that non-electricity production use-cases for nuclear energy are unrealistic 🤷‍♂️

230€ is a bit steep for a toy like that.

Also a missed opportunity to not include some easy to use SDR chip and antenna.
