Shadow Cities was really fun back in the day. Despite coming out so long ago, I think it was the best location based game. I’m disappointed and a bit surprised that nobody ever recreated it. Niantic tried, but they never really captured the magic of it. Pokemon go was fun for a short time, but got boring fast. I think it was a huge missed opportunity to not have actual Pokemon battles, especially PvP.
I honestly don’t think this looks very good. The lighting and assets look good on their own, but this remaster completely changes the art direction of the original, and it ends up losing a lot of the atmosphere that the original had.
I hope they make some last minute changes, or we at least get a mod to restore it to the original game’s aesthetics.
I think a simple color grade, and tweaking/removing some of the lights could basically fix it, so I’m a bit surprised they took this approach. It looks like they prioritized tech demo over faithful recreation.
The notifications are coming from Google Play Services.
Look into GrapheneOS. They have a sandboxed play services implementation, and you can have multiple sandboxed users, e.g. one for foss apps, one for google and proprietary apps.
Also try TrackerControl on f-droid, it lets you block trackers from apps. You’ll still have Google to worry about though.
Yeah I used to have an old Windows MR headset until it stopped working (and I switched to linux)
It was a lot of fun, and I do miss beat saber.
But I’m not going to spend a thousand dollars on an outdated index, or put facebook spyware on my face. If Valve or some other company comes out with something modern without proprietary bs, I’d buy it in a heartbeat.
Here are my recommendations:
Bad North: Real time island defense with procedural islands and character permadeath.
Inscryption: Roguelite deck builder (but it’s more than that, hard to describe without spoilers. just play it)
I realize these might not be the exact type of roguelike you’re looking for, but I highly recommend them.
Yeah, 1080p is fine on a small laptop screen, or a small TV on the other side of the room, but it’s unusable for desktop applications. Even 1440 is noticeably low res. I disagree about phones, though. I think 1080p is overkill and 720p is fine.
