While I think this is un enforceable, I started to be careful what I click.

Just one click can ruin my feed.

And it is boring watch all the same stuff in the feed. I have many different interests, just put them all in there don’t focus only on the last one.

I don’t understand why do they do it. Diverse content will engage me more.

We all had experience with ads showing up after we talked in person with someone about topic. I don’t need some random person ir media telling me something obvious is happening. And for some time already.

I also thing we just need to find use cases where it is working.

While it will not solve everything, it did solve some things. Like you have found, I have used it for generating simple artwork for internal documents, that would never get design funding (even if it would I would have spent much more time dealing with designer), rewriting sentences so it sounds better, grammar check, quick search engine, enciclopedia, copywriting some non important texts…

I would pay few bucks per month if it wasn’t free. I gave it to grammarly and barely use it.

So I guess next step is just reducing cost of running those models, which is not that hard as we can see by open source space.

I haven’t seen anything about that in the article, I would like to see some text about it. Especially from whom?

Especially since they use MIPS architecture while Intel and AMD x86 are CISC. So… probably not the whole process?

On the other hand, even if true, China doesn’t have same view on what “original” means as we in the west have. Vase made in the same way as in 16th century is “original 16th century vase”. Different culture.

It is, it has -9 points right now. While unpopular opinion, I agree with it if you like the content.

I use it, but I am trying to move to podcast and other platforms as much as possible.

Thing is you also stop sharing and commenting and engaging with other users. If it wasn’t useful they would pull the plug long ago, nothing technical is preventing them.

And it is always a question how they calculated handling of nuclear waste.

There are options, we can use coal and natural gas for on demand power to fill the gaps in renewables, we don’t have to quit all at once. New ideas for energy storage and comming around, some of them might be useful for small towns, others for remote places.

Isn’t gcam still google’s app?

I think they hard code gallery started from their app, xiaomi does that too. Solution might be other camera app, like someone mentioned opencamera.

Or are just being given slow and aweful low end android phones. IPhones will be faster and better in every way.

It was the same with laptops 10-15 years ago, people were comparing cheap 400USD laptops with 1500USD macbooks and saying thise are better without ever seeing 1000+ USD PC.

It is about money/status and performance too.

I can freely laugh at a colleague with new 1.5k USD macbook with soldered 8GB ram + soldered 512GB SSD while using my three year old thinkpad with 48GB of RAM and 2TB SSD costing the same with upgrades.

Because their opinion will decide what we will be using in decade or two.

When I read ‘AAA devs’ in this context I see it as ‘AAA game development companies’ not programers and artists working in them.

Yes, the article is not very good. Main players here are google and gihub. My experience with media is that they often don’t publish everything, sometimes because of incompetence sometimes for sponsor money. So we have to use our heads a bit.

Not even mentioning google, not even.asking google what they think of youtube-dl, not even asking MS to comment. Give us at least a question and ‘they said no comment’.

Not really good reporting and we got used to that.

There is some difference between private communication and open source code that smis available to anyone.

So they can make superconductors, but can not host high quality video somewhere belivable and use tiktok and bilibili?

I expect we’ll lose about 90% of the web within five years

Which part? I feel it will be part I don’t even want. I might be forced to use that part for work, but that will be nice filter.

I was thinking that “they” ( governments and big corporations) should have their own internet which is clean and ordered and “safe” and leave us on other part. This might be a way to achieve that.

And I would really not be surprised, it was so lich repeating same ideas that it was not possible to come from different people.

I was on that moment for years, just there was no real substitute. Hopefully, lemmy will remain big enough.
