I’d link them for you, but I’m too busy playing the new 501st spinoff of Republic Commando. It’s pretty badass; you customize a squad of troopers and follow them through training on Kamino, through the Clone Wars, and even Order 66 and the Bad Batch era. It’s not just action; there are meaningful story choices you have to make as you struggle with your loyalty to the Republic and General Skywalker, vs the growing realization that something is wrong with the clones. It’s really well-written and voice acted with a mature story.

In an alternate universe I just got a 10 kill streak with Ahsoka on the Siege of Mandalore map in Battlefront III. Star Wars Eclipse is coming out in a few months, and gameplay demos show that it looks every bit as good as the trailer.

I haven’t played SC, and i haven’t played Eve in a while, but here is some readily available information:

  1. Eve has been in release state for 20 years.
  2. Eve has an ancient dedicated player base that probably knows the game better than the devs.
  3. Most old players place a priority on helping new players and keeping the game healthy.
  4. You can’t walk around outside your ship.

It’s mind-blowing how bad they fucked up Overwatch. All they had to do was keep the OW1 servers and progression for PvP, and sell PvE expansion packs. Expand the lore through PvE expansion packs and offer exclusive cosmetics that people can show off in PvP, but don’t stop releasing cosmetics that can be obtained through PvP gameplay.

Add on a battle pass for more exclusive cosmetics (NOT FUCKING HEROES), and bam you’ve got a stew going.

That would bring in more than enough revenue to keep the servers running and making a tidy profit for years, like TF2.

Is it predatory, though? Or are people just upset because they fell for pre-order hype, despite it being 2024 and they should know better.

Let’s not muddy the waters by comparing it to gambling. Pay-to-win (or pay-for-convenience, which, in my opinion, is the same as pay-to-win) is not gambling. It’s just shit. You’re not paying for a randomized chance at a reward. You know exactly what you’re getting.

I don’t have first-hand knowledge of the game, but from what I have seen, there are no predatory IU elements to lure vulnerable kids into stealing their mom’s credit card.

Don’t get me wrong. I think the MTX is shit. I was mildly interested in the game, but now I won’t consider it even on 75% Steam sale. Capcom won’t be getting my money, that’s my choice.

We don’t need the government involved in regulating shitty entertainment. It’s not water or electricity or healthcare. You can just not buy the thing. If you start calling for regulation of everything you don’t like, that’s how you get geriatric politicians who never played a game in their life and still call it “the Nintendo” deciding what you can and can’t have in your game.

If enough people are buying it, they’ll keep doing it whether you like it or not. So why waste your energy getting mad about it?

You already lost the fight when you start talking about “bad behavior” and “blame.” Just accept the fact that you’re not the target audience for shitty modern AAA games, and move on.

It’s OK. I’m not the target audience either. I’m not the target audience for Taylor Swift concerts, either. Does that make it “bad behavior” if I don’t like her ticket prices?

Stop getting mad about companies making money. That’s literally their purpose. There are plenty of other products out there to buy.

Understandable. But for anyone else reading this and is interested in moving to High Seas, I should make it clear what is considered “toxic” in this game:

Toxic (actual bannable behavior):

  • Hacking.
  • Using slurs, verbal abuse, etc. (the common standards you will see for voice/chat interaction in modern online games).

Not toxic:

  • Attacking other crews for any reason, even if they don’t fight back or don’t have any loot on their ship.
  • Trash talking that doesn’t go into the category of slurs and personal abuse. (That being said, you can mute other crews any time with a hotkey).

One of the things that frustrates new players is the misconception that there are rules or standards for getting attacked by other crews.

Fighting, lying, stealing, and sneaking are all part of intended gameplay. They are the essence of the game, and are what leads to the most exciting and memorable player interactions. I say this as an almost exclusive solo player who is always at a disadvantage in PvP situations.

That being said, you can always choose to be nice, and that can also lead to rewarding player interactions. But you should never assume that the other crews are playing by your rules.

Always good to see a new pirate on the sea of thieves! Safer Seas is great for a basic tutorial, but don’t be afraid to jump to High Seas as soon as you are familiar with the mechanics. Do not wait until you’re level 30.

The new quest table in season 11 makes it safer and easier than ever to earn gold as a solo player, so there’s no point in taking the 70% reduction from Safer Seas.

The first thing you want to focus on is buying a captained ship. This will massively increase your convenience in selling loot, and is really the only thing you can buy that actually “upgrades” your character.

The next thing you want to focus on is … whatever you want! Progression is just cosmetics and getting better at the game. It’s a true sandbox.

If you want to get better at PvP, just fight every ship you see. You will sink a lot, but each time you will get a little better. Don’t be afraid to lose fights and lose treasure to other players. There will always be more loot!

For useful tips and tricks aimed at new players, I recommend Phuzzybond’s guides on YouTube.

Happy sailing!

I’d like to thank all the teenagers who used their mom’s credit cards to buy Fortnite skins so I can enjoy free GTA V, Control, Star Wars Battlefront, and now this game.

This guy’s headshot looks like a character creation screen after hitting randomize

Lastpass was kinda janky but acceptable, then they did the thing where they wanted you to pay or choose between only mobile or only desktop, so I say “lol ok bye.”

Bitwarden was solid for years and never nagged me to pay or threatened to remove features. As a token of appreciation, I decided to get premium even though I don’t need the features.

Why do consoles have save limits in the first place? I have hundreds of saves on PC.
