It certainly makes it hard for me, as a fan of actual games like Rogue, to find said games when the genre is so flooded with literally every other game out there.

That’s the weird thing is that what people call a “roguelike” now is just what pretty much every game was back in the day.

Sorry to go on a well-trodden tangent, but it really is unfortunate how diluted the term “roguelike” has become.

One I haven’t seen mentioned (at a glance at least) is Noita.

Getting the “false ending” is achievable with some effort, but I dare you to actually finish the game. And as far as replayability, you’ll be hard pressed to have two runs that go the same. The amount of Butterfly Effect in this game from all the combinations and systems is straight up insane.

I really can’t recommend it enough.

And not only that, but if you spritz leftover pizza with a bit of water before putting it in the microwave, it brings out the flavour more and prevents it from drying out.

(Figure that’s about as relevant.)

First one coming to mind for me is Pillar Hop. Very simple, chill, and just had ads iirc (I block them, but I’m pretty sure it does, anyway.)

Seems like it’s leaning hard on the “puzzle” aspect of LoZ. Honestly, I’m personally stoked.

Honestly, agreed. I trust Kitfox enough that I highly doubt it’s shovelware, but the art direction does kind of point that direction.

That said, it looks really interesting. Can’t wait to check it out once it releases!

Spoiling items is just yet another thing I never knew I wanted that will completely change the game for the better. I can’t wait for this to drop.

Been following the devlogs for this one. It looks really good, and the dev is clearly putting their heart and soul into it.

I imagine you’re being facetious, but you’d miss a lot of great games this way.

For the record - I know, lol. But thank you!

Edit: Ooooh, the person I was replying to edited their comment. I see where the confusion came from now haha.

Tbf it probably depends what you would say counts as a “paradigm shift”, but either way, yours is for sure a fair opinion.

You mean they aren’t General Artificial Intelligence. They definitely are AI.

That said, I do think we’re like 2 or 3 paradigm shifts away from General AI.

Right? Like, by this definition, the training algorithm is already “corrupting” the images by vectorizing them. This is just an overly roundabout way of saying “See? The image is cropped, so we good now!”

Depending on the project, there might not be a soundtrack to buy - especially for indie projects.

I’ve pitched in a few bucks here and there to support projects, with mixed results. I don’t regret supporting even the failed projects though, since I viewed it more like a donation than a purchase.

The number of gamers that are still entirely unaware of games like Noita or Project Zomboid (to name a few) is absolutely criminal.

Or if you really want to support the project, but accept that it might not turn out.

Imo Ghibli is the only studio that could ever fully do the story justice.

not the Bob Hoskin’s Super Mario Bros film

You take that back!!

Absolutely. I’m way past the age of feeling like I “need” a game that hasn’t even released yet, lol.

I remember I definitely felt that way about the first Assassin’s Creed game back in the day, but the video game landscape was completely different back then.

I’ve avoided these AAA games for a long time, but I gotta admit, an Assassin’s Creed game set in Japan does pique my interest. Can’t wait to buy it once the DRM expires - assuming reviews are good.

Yeah, I find 6 takes a bit more micromanaging to be effective, at least for me. I like both games, but if I had to choose one I’d go with 5.

Of course, not to say the data isn’t also important though. It’s very possible that we’re missing something crucial regarding how the brain functions, despite everything we know so far. The more data we have, the better we can build/test these more streamlined models.

Last I played - forever ago - I was just disappointed that the random NPCs were nothing but decoration. Made the whole setting feel flat to me, sadly.

It’s honestly hard to explain just how cool it is. If you watch the trailer and think it’s a cool idea, just know that the game absolutely delivers on it 500%.

Oh man, I could go on lol. Here’s a few notable ones though:

Factorio
Noita
Stardew Valley
Terraria
Project Zomboid
FTL
(Etc.)

A lot of people are having a lot of issues with video games these days, and I experience almost none of that pain, because I (generally) stick to indie titles. These days games have never been better, but publishers have never been worse.

I misread that at first and got really excited about a Resident Evil SimCity for a second.

I use Connect, and I have no complaints.

Tried Jerboa early on, but at the time it was super buggy. Hopefully it’s better now - I feel like a FOSS app is a way better option for Lemmy just on principle.
