Factory reset is out of the question - I spent way too much time installing and setting everything up after changing phones to nuke it all (because Google sucks and doesn’t allow backing all the settings and such without root, but that’s a rant for another day).
I did reboot the phone, yes, multiple times - after turning calendar notifications off, disabling the app and so on. No dice, the icon keeps coming back. Oh well, guess I’ll have to get used to it - it’s a distracting eyesore, but the phone is working fine. Maybe it fixes itself after the update to Android 15…
Thanks a bunch for all the suggestions and willingness to help - appreciate it!
That didn’t work unfortunately - my Google calendar is actually completely empty, no tasks, notifications or anything. Cleared app data, even tried force stopping and disabling the app completely (can’t fully uninstall it, since it’s system), but the darn icon is still there. Maybe I just need to learn to live with it, even though it annoys me…
The Bethesda of old is long dead. After the disappointment that was Starfield, it will take multiple rave reviews and watching a few streamers playing on Twitch for me to even consider giving them any money. And I sure as hell will not be paying for goddamned mods, not now and not ever. Eff that and eff the greedy assholes that now run Bethesda.
I got it on Game Pass and wanted to give it a try, but when I sat down on the couch, controller in hand, and tried to run it, it asked me to take my phone out and scan a code to create yet another worthless account somewhere. It wouldn’t allow me to even start the game otherwise.
It made me actually say “are you fucking kidding me!?” out loud and uninstall immediately. Screw that - I will not eat at a restaurant that makes me scan a code to see the menu, and I will definitely not play a game that does it either…
Rant over, but that experience annoyed me so much that no update or improvement will make me want to install it again.
Meanwhile, FIFA players: “when can I pre-order the next edition of my game, and could I just pay for the cards in advance, or do I have to wait until release?”
Sadly, bamboozling players, dark patterns and nickle-and-diming work, and work VERY well at that - if they didn’t, people would stop doing it a long time ago…
Syncthing is great! This fork has some extra options and enhancements: https://github.com/Catfriend1/syncthing-android
I don’t even do NG+ in these huge games, but now I’m going to skip this one on principle, even though I do like the series. Nope, not going to allow a company to treat me this way.
There will of course be a lot of people who bend over and take it (or even defend it), but I’d rather replay an older title than encourage this shit.
Samsung lost me as a customer when they removed the audio jack and SD card slot - I’m typing this on a S10+ that I’ve loved for years, but my next phone is going to be made by someone else, so they can shove the whole AI crap and yet another damn subscription so deep that it tickles their tonsils from the other side.
They have! github.com/FossifyX
Edit: the name of the repo changed, now it’s https://github.com/FossifyOrg
LibreTube is another YouTube alternative - this one can also use Piped API

I just love the unusual shape and the aesthetic overall. Using it with Nova and a very dense layout - I can barely see my wallpaper, but I like it that way.
Got used to these so much, phones with “normal” shaped icons look weird to me now :)
Thanks, here’s hoping! I love it as a phone, but I suspect it might be another app showing the icon - there should be no way for a disabled app to do so…
Anyway, I’ll keep casually digging, maybe start disabling apps one by one to see which one is the culprit or something :)
