Thanks, here’s hoping! I love it as a phone, but I suspect it might be another app showing the icon - there should be no way for a disabled app to do so…

Anyway, I’ll keep casually digging, maybe start disabling apps one by one to see which one is the culprit or something :)

Factory reset is out of the question - I spent way too much time installing and setting everything up after changing phones to nuke it all (because Google sucks and doesn’t allow backing all the settings and such without root, but that’s a rant for another day).

I did reboot the phone, yes, multiple times - after turning calendar notifications off, disabling the app and so on. No dice, the icon keeps coming back. Oh well, guess I’ll have to get used to it - it’s a distracting eyesore, but the phone is working fine. Maybe it fixes itself after the update to Android 15…

Thanks a bunch for all the suggestions and willingness to help - appreciate it!

That didn’t work unfortunately - my Google calendar is actually completely empty, no tasks, notifications or anything. Cleared app data, even tried force stopping and disabling the app completely (can’t fully uninstall it, since it’s system), but the darn icon is still there. Maybe I just need to learn to live with it, even though it annoys me…

That’s a great find, thanks! The problem is, I don’t actually have any tasks scheduled right now, and the icon never disappears. Disabling calendar notifications completely doesn’t hide it either, I even tried disabling the calendar app completely, and still nothing…

Edit: I found the culprit! It is an app I've been using for years called "Notification Toggle" that has sadly been abandoned, and that seems to have a bug on Android 14 where it's icon will be stuck at 1 instead of showing the current date. I completely forgot it even had this function, because it was a default on all my phones for a looooooing time without me ever opening it or fiddling with the settings. Sad to see it abandoned, with no hope of getting this bug fixed, but what can I do... I switched phones recently, and am very satisfied with my Xperia, but there's this one useless icon in the taskbar that annoys me a bit and that is like to hide, but I can't identify it, could someone help? I tried SystemUI tuner, but it doesn't list it as one you can blacklist in the list of toggles, and I don't know how to find it's key to add it as a custom one. Tried turning off calendar notifications, but that's not it - it still shows. Does anyone know what it is and how to hide it? It's a minor annoyance to be sure, but it's completely useless, and I'd like it gone if possible. Thanks in advance for any help!

Which means one more screen to show ads - this is why they do it…

The Bethesda of old is long dead. After the disappointment that was Starfield, it will take multiple rave reviews and watching a few streamers playing on Twitch for me to even consider giving them any money. And I sure as hell will not be paying for goddamned mods, not now and not ever. Eff that and eff the greedy assholes that now run Bethesda.

I got it on Game Pass and wanted to give it a try, but when I sat down on the couch, controller in hand, and tried to run it, it asked me to take my phone out and scan a code to create yet another worthless account somewhere. It wouldn’t allow me to even start the game otherwise.

It made me actually say “are you fucking kidding me!?” out loud and uninstall immediately. Screw that - I will not eat at a restaurant that makes me scan a code to see the menu, and I will definitely not play a game that does it either…

Rant over, but that experience annoyed me so much that no update or improvement will make me want to install it again.

Meanwhile, FIFA players: “when can I pre-order the next edition of my game, and could I just pay for the cards in advance, or do I have to wait until release?”

Sadly, bamboozling players, dark patterns and nickle-and-diming work, and work VERY well at that - if they didn’t, people would stop doing it a long time ago…

Microsoft, probably: “StartAllBack? Nope, ya little twit, you will use our start menu AND YOU WILL LIKE IT! No installing any of that crap on your our computer!”

Wanna try some super entertaining pills, or would you prefer a syringe so you can pump entertainment straight into your veins? First round is free, don’t you want to be entertained?

From Generative AI to Greed AI in one simple step, no need to change the acronym either!

EA: you thought our games were garbage before? Hold our beer!

“Cracking the whip is no fun if we can’t see the fear in our wage slaves’ eyes as we do it, and besides, we want you to experience workplace culture crunch directly and fully, in a crowded office and not a comfort of your own home.” - Rockstar executives, probably.

Sigh, and here I was, thinking Microsoft trying to shove its useless (to me) AI down my throat at every opportunity was annoying… Quo vadis Mozilla, what are you guys doing… :(

I don’t even do NG+ in these huge games, but now I’m going to skip this one on principle, even though I do like the series. Nope, not going to allow a company to treat me this way.

There will of course be a lot of people who bend over and take it (or even defend it), but I’d rather replay an older title than encourage this shit.

Samsung lost me as a customer when they removed the audio jack and SD card slot - I’m typing this on a S10+ that I’ve loved for years, but my next phone is going to be made by someone else, so they can shove the whole AI crap and yet another damn subscription so deep that it tickles their tonsils from the other side.

The internet is turning to shit really fast and is less fun than ever, episode #43364318

Yes, as far as I understand. I also like the interface more, but that’s just personal preference.

Huge fan of Verticons: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spaceman.verticonspro

I just love the unusual shape and the aesthetic overall. Using it with Nova and a very dense layout - I can barely see my wallpaper, but I like it that way.

Got used to these so much, phones with “normal” shaped icons look weird to me now :)
