The issue is that there is only 1 industry. And the end goal of ALL developers and companies is making money. The more the better. When other pools start seeing that pissong in the pool leaves them more money, than they ALL will start designing their games around this. It is this design choice that will infect pretty much all other games. The precedent it sets affects the whole industry.
And like you said before, the only way this is not an issue is if it does not generate additional money for them so that no other pools try to imitate. And this will only happen if nobody buys them. And this post is trying to dissuade those buyers so that this does not become rampart and then all games have it.
I think the analogy is that it sets a precedent. Now the other companies see how you can pee in the pool and folks are either cool with it (buy) or are on the other end (not buy but meh). Now the pool standard is piss filled pool and we will never have a chance to get into a clean pool anymore.
If you want to take a swim you have to do it in a pissed soaked pool because we never complained or did anything about it.
Control is on my backlog list. Thanks for the writeup. Now I know what to expect.
Using cheats for 1 player offline games is 100% OK in my book. I am an adult with so much responsabilties and little time to game. Sitting for 2 hours frustrated on something and not progressing is just not my idea of fun. Nudging yourself through with the help of cheats, easy mode or anything else is totally valid.
I have done this with a few games. Disgaea games come to mind… I know most of the enjoyment of those games comes from the grind to level up and get stronger to then grind some more… But I just couldn’t make myself fight the same level 25 times to earn enough XP to upgrade so I memory edited the values just enough to simulate me grinding for 2 hours in 5 minutes. Not enough to break the game but enough to get me through the grindy parts.
And any offline 1 player game that tries that shit will get memory edited right away.
Of course I will always try to do it the intended way, as long as it’s not annoying to me.
So I used bings chat bot to summarize the article to the same length as the other bot and this is the result (you be the judge) :
!Carlos Vasquez, also known as Rattlehead, is a professional gamer who relies on sound to play Mortal Kombat. Carlos, who is completely blind, started playing video games at the age of six in 1992. He was diagnosed with a type of glaucoma when he was 11, which slowly took away his sight. Carlos relies on hearing the specific sounds of the characters to make his attacking and defensive moves. He is able to pick up on the distinct sounds of the characters and use them to his advantage. Carlos found that most mainstream games were almost impossible to play without gaming accessibility features. Back in his 20s, Carlos was able to play some fighting games, and in particular Mortal Kombat, because he was able to pick up on the distinct sounds. For example, he recognised that the character who started on the right side of the screen would grunt at a slightly higher pitch than the one on the left. This allowed him to work out which character he was playing¹.

Weird list…
Sample size is relevant as a proportion of the difference you are looking for.
For example:
Sample A: 1.1, 1.3, 1.5, 1.2, 1.1
Sample B: 345.3, 323.4, 322.3, 355.2
Determining a statistical difference between these two groups where a meaningful difference is 20%, does not require more samples. The chance of error on making a claim that A is less than B will be quite low.
Not saying that N=18 in this case is sufficient, just stating that the number alone does not give you enough information to determine whether a claim has weight to it or not.

I played the first one pretty much at launch and I finished and liked it a lot but the backtracking killed it for me. It was just way too much walking around ignoring mobs because I had fought them so many times every time I walked back to town. I know they fixed this somehow on later patches. Hope they bring along all the QOL updates the first one got.
Have you tried running an emulator? There are tons of Tactics games that are way superior to anything mobile. Save states ensure you don’t miss anything by shutting down and starting right back where you left. I was a little reluctant at first since I saw it as a non-native app and patchy or glitchy. It was not and I was wrong. Emulation on mobile is rock solid. Give it a go.
Tactics Ogre for the PSP is very well liked and still holds. Runs very well on my android.
Oh and it’s also $0!!
I got PTSD from that. I did manage it somehow. And I lost count so I kept going for who knows how long afterwards just to make sure. Then you go to the chest for your reward and it gives them to you in increasing rarity so my first thought was I had fucked it up somehow cause all I got was a stupid elixir or something. Then you reopen the chest and you get the next reward and so on. I was so relieved when I finally got it.
As a consumer we can use our choices where we spend to lead companies one way or the other. Spreading the word to not buy something is “doing something about it”. How effective it may be here in Lemmy, probably not very much, but it’s something.
