Curseforge is fine enough, modrinth is better, but people need to understand that at the end of the day you are just downloading hundreds of little programs off the internet and that there is little oversight into their content or behavior
It is trivial to disable all the video content (and some more) on steam if you happen to be on low-end hardware that needs that (or just if you don’t like it, really)
These devices are honestly quite fast, the overhead is similar to the overhead on an entry level gaming PC (to be fair, that is still a substantial overhead, but people accept it)
