It’s a FPS from the Titanfall developers, it would’ve been exactly the same on PC as it was on console.

Shame the game is still terrible as a racing sim. Wheel controls are worse than Horizon 5s.

That is fair, Dota 2 is cosmetic only. TF2 on the other hand, is selling items with stats, mostly sidegrades rather than upgrades, but they do play into a certain kind of play, which does make it a de facto upgrade if your style of play matches the items use case.

Epic Games Store, Gog, UPlay (or whatever ubisoft’s is called), Origin/EA Downloader have all not done this and yet they’re not controlled by Gabe Newell.

Fact is that steam, no one else, started the road down the licensing and not ownership of games path we are firmly on with regards to PC.

Most PC’s don’t even have a disc drive any more, it’s all downloads.

And Gog is the only one that still allows ownership and not licensing of software.

So yeah, you do know nothing at all.

You’re still playing proprietary games on your FOSS OS. Furthermore, the vast majority of people don’t care.

If it matters to you personally, I get that. But linux gaming is personally DOA for me as it still doesn’t support my simracing hardware.

You’re simping for a shop. The PC Shop wars have managed to be even more pathetic than the console wars.

I have Steam, Epic Games Store, GoG Galaxy, Battle.net, XBox, Ubisoft and EA’s thing installed and they all miraculously work since I’m on PC and it’s not a locked down consoles. I get to play games that aren’t on steam!

Stop locking your PC down, it’s not a console.

shareholders…owners… who cares about the vernacular.

Turns out, quite a few people when those words are describing very different things.

I just hope to christ Gabe Newell’s successor(s) are in line with his actions.

This is how I know that you don’t know much at all. GabeN has changed valve from being a game developer making amazing things like Half Life and Team Fortress 2, to microtransactions and no games. A continuation of what Gabe is doing is pretty much in line with the rest of the industry, except NBA 2k4 would be the last one and it would have microtransaction DLC for the next 15 years.

Relatively cheap, loads of amazing games and appeals to a lot of different people.

It’s not rocket science.

It really didn’t bomb hard, it is pretty dull after you get through the main missions though.

The reason you can still play UT99 and 2004 is because those games were never hosted by epic on a central server. The game shipped with the server hosting tools, and it was designed to allow you to host your own server (if your connection was fast enough) or to rent your own server from a third party.

They’re also very different types of games from the current crop of live service games that this youtuber is targeting.

For the last few years, most MMOs have been, or become, Free to Play, with (a lot of) microtransactions. The only subscription MMOs I can think of off the top of my head are FFXIV, WoW and Eve. Then you have the buy to play, with no sub (or optional sub, but not required to play), games like New World and Elder Scrolls Online. Making the vast majority F2P.

All of those games can become EOL and be removed from sale for any number of reasons, and they’ll have the same terms in the EULA that the crew would have. There is literally nothing different legally between The Crew and something like Elyon. Both were paid for up front, no subscription with some optional microtransactions.

Since legallly there is nothing different between all these live service games, it makes this youtubers campaign all the more odd. Car Licensing is notoriously well enforced, so why is this guy, a Half Life youtuber of all things, thinking he can go after Ubisoft on this when it’s pretty obvious that it’s the license agreements that are the likely cause of the shutdown.

This is all well and good, but what of all those MMORPGs that got shut down?

The Crew is a bizarre game to do this kinda treatment for, since the sequel is very similar to the first, less terrible crime syndicate story, more planes and other nonsense. It’s also pretty middling, car handling is really weird, and the lack of rear view mirrors looks pretty weird nowadays.

I’m guessing it’s car licensing that’s causing the shutdown. It’s what happened to Forza Horizon 1 and 2. If that is the case, this game isn’t going to get open sourced ever. Also: why didn’t this guy go after Microsoft to make them playable again?

The only difference seems to be that steam doesn’t demand a monthly subscription cost, yet

Which Ubisoft isn’t doing either. This is just Ubisoft’s gamepass style subscription, which has been available for a few years now, it’s just getting a 2 tier pricing model.

Richard Burns Rally. Though that is kinda already happening. The developers are long gone, so some top people patched it up, made it really mod-able and keep updating it. So I win I guess.

Because it’s proper fucking good, that’s why.

My wife played this through one evening, I thought i’d done something wrong for the next week.

“Scam” implies that they’re not delivering the product, and they are, as in you can actually go and play it. There is actually a fair bit to do. Not overly exciting non-stop heroics, but the game is trying to simulate what life in space would be like, and does a pretty good job of it so far.

Destiny 2 because I love the grind I guess. 2 weeks left in the season until the long season before everything goes to shit. Also been smashing out WRC in my simrig, it’s excellent fun. Graphically not as nice as Dirt Rally 2.0, but the much longer stages make up for it. I’ve been learning to drift in Assetto Corsa, but it’s tough going, the tutorials I’ve been following are only okish, if anyone has a great drifting tutorial, please let me know!

I’m gonna say it probably will live up to the hype. My fear is the monitisation of GTA 6 Online. It’s gonna be wild.

Weird thing to say, but this game has the best muddy paths in games.

Risky Rain with, presumably, working netcode and (hopefully) doesn’t crash after a few mins in multiplayer? Sign me the heck up.

I’ve always considered Deep Rock Galactic to kinda be LoTR 40k.

That deal already went through. It’s why Starfield is an Xbox console exclusive.

Compared to Phil Spencer, he comes across a bit of a Superintendent of the Fun Police.

Good that he’s going, hopefully the next CEO is someone who actually likes games, maybe that’s why Kamiya stepped down at Platinum…

Skies of Arcadia

Only my favourite game of all time.

Sega adding it as a track to Sonic All-Stars racing to tease me, and not making a sequel after all these years makes me sad.

You seem to be unaware that this is basically fantasy warframe, made by the original warframe team, which has been consistently one of the most popular games on steam for years. The dev team is very successful at what they do, and they’re doing more of it. It probably has one of the best monitization systems of any F2P game, with it all being cosmetics and time skips, nothing that makes you more powerful than a purely free player.

Stop posting, you know nothing about this subject and are making yourself look like bit of a numpty.

Shooters that are just about shooting the baddies in a usually retro style, things like that Warhammer 40k Boltgun, as opposed to the more complex Darkide.
