Nobody likes a sucker, especially the kind that fall for fruit tarts like you. I knew there was trouble. I could smell it on the hot evening breeze. Fortunately for me, trouble is my favorite thing… Because I’m Joe Milkshake. I kicked down the door with one swift, decisive motion.

I’d like The Gunk!

Edit: awesome, thanks!

Uh no, this was annoying but none of the companies involved deny care for sick people which increases their chance to die.

I think this is a very important point. Why would you talk to a registrar of the domain to get a specific page offline. This doesn’t make sense.

Excuse me, what? And have good games actually survive over decades if people are interested in them? Surely not!

Yeah, I said I will not. I didn’t say no one should. I think it is great that GOG preserves them but the price is still to high for something from a scumbag company.

How does it work with the money GOG is charging, does Blizzard see anything of that? If not, then nice, makes it more worth to me to pay so GOG gets more funding.

If Blizzard does get a cut then GOG should give a rather hefty discount as a final “fuck you” to Blizzard. Because that’s all they deserve.

I will not pay 15-ish bucks for decade old games that I already purchased long time ago at release. Also not with another buck discount off. Definitely not since they are Blizzard games and these days that studio is not worth supporting anymore.

Good initiative from GOG, but this feels like wasted money to me. Warcraft 1 is definitely a hard sell because of how terrible playing it will feel. Or did they change that in the Remaster? You used to be able to only control one unit at a time. In Warcraft 2 they upped it to 9 units? Or am I off and it was 9 units in 1 and already more in 2?

This has been posted a million times already, but I am still going to repeat it. Yes you are right, in their own legal docs they also only talk about licenses.

Difference for the consumer however is that you get the installation files which are supposed to work offline. Meaning if you take care to store that, it will not be gone ever, no matter if GOG goes down. With Steam this gets more complicated and may only work for some games.

You didn’t fuck up. You can always still pirate. Wait it out and see what happens, the moment it goes to shit put on your pirate hat and don’t give a fuck.

I saw some time ago on the Joplin github that they might add the option of saving the notes in markdown somehow, but not sure that’s implemented or even progressing.

I’m going for the hot take and say Obsidian, the note writing app.

There are many alternatives but since Obsidian works well, has tons of plugins, you can use it for free and it stores your notes in nonproprietary markdown format (unless you use some specific features), it has been hard to switch.

Warcraft came a year before Command & Conquer and improved on many concepts that Dune II introduced.

Then you will need to extend that to the OP of this comment chain as they didn’t specify either what Gears of War is. I am going to edit my comment to clarify but I do feel you are too pendantic for asking this.

Third person view in an FPS (first person shooter) type of game was first seen in the first Lara Croft game, I think?

Absolutely, we didn’t even have any special graphics cards at the time for 3D, I believe? I remember that started some time around Quake 2 but I am not sure, I might remember wrong.

Yeah, however before Warcraft there was Dune II. But I am not sure which one was more popular at the time and I think Dune II came way before Warcraft.

I think why Dune II is more notable though is that the first Dune game was more of an adventure style came, not a strategy game. Then they changed the game with its successor and introduced the asymmetrical factions that each had a few unique units with differing strategies.

Warcraft took that concept further of course. But even there its rather Warcraft II that really had a big breakthrough.

Yeah agreed, every month its going to be a different person who is right. You won’t know who until you know the rate of that month. How is that helpful?

Can anecdotally confirm as it is only in my library because I got it via humble bundle. Secondarily because it worked back then already in Linux.

Because other articles cite about 350 (heh, inb4 three-fiddy) for the whole of Valve. This is just Steam.

Or you use Obtainium.

Yeah dude, holy shit. Cannot believe these comments here. Does anyone of the MacOs evangelists have an example of how MacOs “respects the user”?

Yeah, exactly. I find the shilling for MacOS a bit concerning, already from the article and also the comments.

A Mac feels more like yours than Windows? Just goes to shows how shitty Windows has become, not how MacOS is better.

Welcome to the internet where you cannot make the rules if it involves thousands of other people.

I think your number is from a statistic on share of desktop usage. But I could be wrong about that too.

I am not sure why you are getting downvoted.

The dude may have wonderful motives of not wanting the account linking and decides on his own against it to make the game more available. However he also knew it is not going to fly, so its not very difficult to imagine what will happen. I don’t see this guy being on the right side here.

Well, if those were “legitimate” ads the OS would have ways of shutting those down.

That aside, anyone thinking that’s the last time they’ll try that shit is oblivous. It will come back, because why not. Only solution is to finally stop using Windows if you can, or at least dual boot.

Haha. Regain trust. You lost people gaming because of that PSN account linkage. Those people are not playing anymore. How will a continued great game experience regain their trust?

Yupp. I am having auto update off actually, because I like to know what apps are getting an update but even manually checking doesn’t work well.

I might remember to check for updates, go in, hit refresh and it says no updates there. OK. Good. Then 10 minutes later I get a notification, there are 10 apps to be updated! Not sure why it didn’t work 10 minutes ago, but well, whatever.

Depends how important some features are for you, e.g. read here https://help.niagaralauncher.app/article/20-sesame-integration

Right now its probably OK, but Nova was also OK for a while. If a FOSS launcher does this and is popular, it will be forked. Niagara won’t be forked.

Of course, but when something like that happens to a popular app there will be an outcry. If you are not a tech person you might miss that, but I’d argue if you care about what launcher your phone has and you care about this issue to go foss you are probably the type of person who’d hear about it.

I use KISS launcher but there are many other options mentioned here that are also good. Yes, nothing is exactly like Nova. But lots of other stuff is good too.

Anyone here not using an open source launcher after this announcement is seriously learning nothing from this. You are just trusting the next company that either already or eventually will go the same way. Like the dude mentioning Microsoft launcher as alternative, that one has branch analytics baked in as well as far as I remember.

In a corporate setting it isn’t your computer though.

As soon as 3rd party clients don’t work as they do anymore, I am stopping going to YouTube. Simple as, I know it doesn’t matter as a singular thing, I am just one user. Was the same with reddit, now I am here but reddit is still going (how well we don’t need to debate now).

Was 3 any good? Last one I played was 2 and that was pretty awesome.

is there a fun gamified step counter/running app?
Trying to get my child to go out and run a bit with me, worked ok so far but I know it might get boring at some point. So I was looking for any kind of children friendly app that either counts distance or steps just for a run, so not at all times, and then gives some kind of reward for that. Like a dog growing up or whatever, something ok for kids. Zombie run comes up often but I don't think my child is into that, bit too scary maybe with the zombie theme. Other apps I found are counting steps continously, or there are some elaborate minigames connected. I really don't want my little one to spend more time on a screen, so thats not great either. Like Pokemon Go, not into Pokemon yet anyway but its too much aside from the actual running/walking. Anybody got a good suggestion that goes in that direction?
