I think it’s just scare tactics to get people to buy a new computer. I really doubt that Microsoft will withhold updates because it will cause huge security problems.

They strictly say that unfortunately it requires Windows to access PSN integrated features, so the multiplayer will not work because it requires said features. The singleplayer should work though. Since Concord is completely multiplayer, it needs the PSN features that only work on Windows.

Why? You bought the games. It’s like going to the store, buying a bunch of clothes, and realizing after a few months that you don’t want them anymore. They cannot be returned.

Yup. Cyberpunk is often on sale, but I always ask myself if I can really play it when I’m in the middle of other games.

Which why nowadays, even during the mighty deals periods, I don’t buy games anymore. Right now, I’m focusing on finishing games I already own.

Apple Inc. is seeking a senior engineer to help build a television and sports app for Android, a sign the company is finally bringing its TV+ service to the rival smartphone platform.

In a job listing published in recent days, Apple said it’s looking for someone to lead the development of “fun new features” and “help build an application used by millions to watch and discover TV and sports.” A spokesman for Apple declined to comment.

The move suggests that the company is looking to gain market share in video streaming — and is setting aside its rivalry with Android in order to chase additional users. It’s rare for Apple to develop software for Google’s Android, which competes with its iOS platform.

The TV+ service, launched in 2019, is Apple’s answer to Netflix or Disney+, and the company has spent heavilyon feeding it with original content. But it’s hard to tell how many consumers have embraced the offering. Though the company scored a best picture win at the Oscars in 2022, Apple has never disclosed how many subscribers the service has or how much revenue it generates.

Android would provide a big source of potential viewers. Though Apple dominates the market for high-end smartphones, Android has more users globally. The operating system powers more than 3 billion devices around the world. Apple has roughly 2.2 billion active devices, with the majority of those being iPhones.

Apple has long sought to put TV+ on as many platforms as possible and already offers apps for smart TVs, Roku, Amazon streaming devices and game consoles — but it shunned an Android app when TV+ launched.

While Apple offers its music streaming service on Android, it has declined to release apps like FaceTime and iMessage on the operating system. The concern within the company is that putting a popular feature like iMessage on Android will threaten iPhone sales. Though Apple launched a web version of FaceTime a few years ago, it stopped short of creating a dedicated Android app.

TV+ isn’t a total stranger to Android, though. Apple has offered the service on Google Chromecast streaming devices and many smart televisions — with the Apple TV app running on the Android operating system. But the new job listing suggests the company is now planning something more extensive, telling applicants they will “design and architect a sophisticated application.”

The move is the latest sign that Apple’s attitude may be changing. Earlier this year, it launched standalone versions of Music, TV and device-management apps for Windows. More broadly, the company is relying more heavily on services for revenue growth, rather than just devices.

Like its streaming peers, Apple also has raised the price of its TV+ service. Last year, it bumped the rate to $9.99 a month — twice the level when TV+ launched five years ago.

Playstation gets it. I haven’t been disappointed by a Playstation published game yet (Horizon Zero Dawn, Uncharted, God of War, etc.), unlike Ubisoft games which are abysmal.

It’s a slippery slope. Money talks. They are accountable to their shareholders. So when they saw that people were paying for them, they started to monetise more and more.

Well, you vote with your wallet. This is what happens when gamers pre-order incomplete games and scream about the state of the game on social media: you get crap products like this.

Money is the only thing that appeals to companies. If people would just vote with their wallets, we wouldn’t have this situation.

But I always ask myself, do I really need all these features? Am I really going to use them?

After this introspection, I realized that one-handed use is much more important to me than many futures companies suggest.

Because SMS is unreliable. On several occasions, SMS messages have either been delayed by hours or simply never reached their destination. Mind you, that’s my experience here in Canada.

Nah. That’s North America. iPhones in North America have become a status symbol, you have to be available on iMessage, otherwise they’ll contact you by SMS. I know a lot of people in Canada who have no other messaging app (WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, etc.). They only communicate via iMessage.

An update patch that introduced the most amazing feature: monetization!

I don’t think it’s a good idea. Most people are not tech-oriented, which means it will be a huge security risk. And I want my smartphone to be a phone first and foremost. I want it to have a good battery life so that if I need to make an emergency call, I can rely on it.

It will take a while to get away from the centralized world view of Reddit. To me, instances are like countries with their own constitution (rules) and police (mods). This means that two communities in different instances may seem the same, but they are not, because they have to follow the rules and culture of their instance.

Just like a PS5 club in Germany will not be the same as the PS5 club in the US because they will be culturally different. I think it will take some time for the Fediverse to think this way.
