They have been in hot water before when they were caught scraping data without consent and sending it back to Epic. Folders/files and apparently steam user info?

The client still supposedly phones home with some encrypted data and nobody is completely sure what it is, they say it’s anti-cheat stuff, but then there’s this:

“40% of Epic Games is owned by Tencent they’re a Chinese Tech Company which the Chinese Government has a certain say in what they do. LITERALLY without Tencent Epic would go under they’re the only reason why Epic Games has gotten so many exclusives and given away so many free games. There is LITERALLY a board member in Tencent that was appointed by the Chinese Government.”

So can we trust them? Probably not.

Hell yeah! I did not know this was an option. Thanks for the tip!

How does patientgamers feel about free games on Epic?
I love the idea of getting older AAA titles for free, but hate the idea of installing the Epic Games Launcher on my computer. Where do you guys stand on this? It also makes me sad that Epig Games has fallen so far. I grew up on Unreal Tournament and now I don't want them anywhere near my computer.

Valve is directly responsible for skins in Counter Strike which are gotten with 100% gambling mechanics. The fact that they can be sold for real life cash adds to this. I’m not saying its only Valve doing this, plenty of other games on Steam as well, but they certainly have a horse in the race.

That is correct. Porting it to PC also unlocks other capabilities like wide-screen support, modifying/enhancing textures, no framerate lock etc. PC ports of games are awesome.

I seriously don’t think this game gets enough credit. It basically invented the combat system used in a bunch of AAA titles today. Like the Batman games. Sure they have been refined and improved it, but it was revolutionary at the time.

Cool. So now I can expect Nintendo to start a DMCA takedown campaign of all their music on YouTube, and completely destroy the playlists I made.

In my teenage years and early 20s I pirated everything because I was broke. I could squirrel away enough money to build a low grade gaming computer and the benefit to me was “I don’t have to pay for games because I can pirate them”. That or I survived on Demo CDs that came with magazines I got at the book store (and later on I think it was demoplanet.com?). If it wasn’t for these resources, I probably never would have gotten into PC gaming.

Now that I have expendable income, I buy games that I want to play.

I would never have been a customer if I wasn’t originally a pirate. It’s the circle of life.

Also I just went and bought this game because I have money to support shit like this and I’m all about supporting developers who understand.

It’s going to be relentlessly compared to OverWatch. It’s basically an OverWatch clone with Marvel characters.

Tomb Raider (2013).

I just finished Dave the Diver and I was going through the backlog of unplayed games on my Steam Deck. I’m not even sure when I bought this game, I feel like it may have come with a humble bundle or a graphics card. Anyway, I’m about 3 hours in and so far it’s pretty great!

Probably “Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero”. Definitely the peak of Mortal Kombat as a whole, and defined everything we know about the series.

And for the love of Christ, /s if anybody didn’t pick up on it.

You dropped an X.

I was really confused for a moment. With that said, FFIV is a great game and I had fun with the 3D remake. I never got around to playing “The After Years” though.

It’s going to be like that time that GTA3 was a huge success, and a million shitty and broken “open world” games came out (Excluding Simpsons Hit and Run that game was great)

Or when WOW was a huge success and we were buried with a million shitty and broken MMO WOW clones.

Tale as old as tiiimeee.

Okay, so I’m not crazy. I started seeing this today, and I had to stop and think “Wait, was this always here?”

Returns and Hong Kong were good, but Dragonfall rocked my tits right off. Had to have them surgically reattached.

ShadowRun: Dragonfall

Its an isometric tactics style game that plays like the tabletop RPG it is designed around. It’s a lot of reading, so if you’re not into that stay away, but man… I remember when I beat it I was like “Fuck… Did I fuck up? I think I may have made some wrong decisions. I feel awful now”

I also love the setting it takes place in. For some reason fantasy always takes place in the past. Medieval elves, and dwarves, and Orcs etc. ShadowRun is a dystopian/cyberpunk future where all of these races exist. As if the fantasy world didn’t stop existing after the medieval era.

I mean… You can use an emulator and upscale the resolution. It’s not a “remake”, but after the GTA remake fiasco, I’m not sure anybody wants more of that.

I’ve been playing the Mario RPG remake. I remember loving the game as the kid, but as I get to each part of the game I’m like “Damnit, I hate this level!”, and it happens over and over again and I’m like “wait, why do I like this game? I hate this game.”

With that said I’m still playing it because I’m almost done with it so I may as well finish it.

It’s easier than I remember, but I also played the original when I was like 10 years old, so maybe it used to be more difficult because I wasn’t as good at video games when I was 10.

I’m excited to finish it because I have an OLED Steam Deck on the way, and I’m trying to sort out what I’m going to play first. Any suggestions for controller friendly games that run well on the deck? I think Dave the Diver is near the top of that list. I’m not to keen on playing first person shooters with joysticks, that’s what my PC is for.

Maybe they will have him voiced by the real Max Payne - Mark Wahlburg

Anyway to get Samsung Smart Tags to work on Pixel 8?
I have been living in the Samsung ecosystem for quite a long time now, and i finally decided to make the switch to Pixel because the 8 looked pretty great, and it was time for a new phone. Big surprise to me, is that I can no longer use any of my Samsung Smart Tags, which I have quite a few of (Dog collar, Luggage, Car, eScooter, Keys, Backpack, etc). I am pretty upset with this, as I purchased the smart tag pro's, and it wasn't exactly cheap. I previously had some Tile devices, but I found them to be incredibly unreliable, and I really don't want to have to re-purchase a bunch of devices and the things that hold them (collar, waterproof container etc). With all of that said, is there any unofficial way to get the Samsung smart devices working on a Pixel? From my understanding, they are just bluetooth devices. I don't see why there would be any physical restriction to pairing them to my Pixel, it's just the software stopping it. Like is there some kind of jailbroken Samsung Smart Things apk that tells the app that you're on a Samsung device? I've looked around but haven't had much luck finding antyhing, so I thought I might ask here.

Seems like a pretty good deal, and it’s actually being sold by the Amazon Acer store, so it’s not a shady 3rd party retailer. Acer historically hasn’t been well known for quality, but they have gotten better over the years. It’s a lot of laptop for that price. They may be trying to offload 12th Gen devices as the 13th Gen refresh is right around the corner.
