I tried playing Sims 3 again recently and holy hell is the performance bad. Like the FPS is running at whatever I cap it at but there are constant freezes and stuttering with no FPS drops even with all the recommended performance mods. I then remembered I stopped playing for that very reason ages ago and now my desktop is like 100x more powerful.
I’m sorry you misunderstood what I said. I was saying that Sony is encouraging piracy by making it impossible to play their games legaly in some regions, including mine.
Personally I don’t think piracy is wrong with the exception of indie devs. If you think you are fighting corporations by pirating then yea, that’s dumb but I haven’t heard that stance yet.
Personally I’d prefer if games used more stylized graphics like pixel art or hand drawn stuff. That’s not worse in graphical quality but better imho while not needing a supercomputer to run. Spiritfarer is still one of the prettiest games I have played and it runs on the switch.
Going with stylized graphics instead of trying to do photorealism also makes the game age way more gracefully. Bastion for example still looks amazing while there’s a reason Oblivion npcs are a meme.
Fallout 4s writing was pretty objectively bad, the gameplay was a huge improvement though.
Fallout 3 was pretty disappointing to most people who were expecting something like Fallout 1 or 2 but the story was definitely more competent than Fallout 4, still mediocre though. Never heard anyone call it revolutionary.
New Vegas was made by Obsidian, not Bethesda and it’s a solid way to compare what good story looks like.
I used to work in private companies and any annual pay increase was whatever the union managed to negotiate for. It was usually between 1% - 3%. I quit after they moved the office to another city and required everyone to be at the office even though the people I worked with were in different countries. My current job is a government one and for as long as I have worked here I have gotten an annual raise of 10% - 20% and the working conditions are so much better. I’m never working in a private company again.
There are actually a few unreal engine games where you can’t disable AA in the settings and I have tried to play with it on but I just end up disabling it in the ini files anyways because it looks bad. I have not encountered AA that does not make the game look blurry.
I have never met anyone who doesn’t disable motion blur just outright so didn’t think anyone would ever defend that.
Matchmaking is also peer to peer as far as anyone knows but I can’t find any info on how messages are handled. It’s entirely possible those also work on their peer to peer system but even if not a server that serves short text snippets with coordinates to all these players could be run on 20 year old hardware so not even costly enough to register.
The reason why Amazon is bad is because they undercut their competition to drive them out of business just to then raise prices and create a monopoly. What is happening with Steam and other launchers is the other ones are refusing to compete on features and instead are trying to create monopolies with exclusive games so people would be forced to use an inferior product.
Creating a limitation that X features aren’t allowed to exist on a gaming client would solve no issues here as Steam isn’t even trying to create a monopoly, they just have the best product currently and everyone is free to out compete them.
Not necessary, no but it adds value to it’s users and thus making their platform the most popular.
Like Epic’s launcher is the perfect comparison for this: It has the bare minimum features available to sell games and people hate it for it’s lack of features. It’s not necessary for Epic to add those features but clearly people value those in their choice of platform.
Why? All those features already exist as separate companies. Discord for chat, Nexus for workshop, like 5000 places run their own marketplace etc.
How would it be better for everyone if you have to set up 5 separate things? That’s currently the issue with Epic’s launcher that it does nothing other than let you buy games so it doesn’t provide the value Steam does.
I’m not gonna do work to buy their games, I’ll just pirate them if they make it more annoying than buying.
