One thing I’m really surprised about is that the overall screen strength doesn’t seem to have improved over the last 5 years. Screens are still much better than what they were over a decade ago (where a drop without a case was pretty much a screen crack)

But I’m finding on my Pixel 7 pro for example that I’m still finding light scratches, it feels like these screens only have a 5 or 6 on the mohz scale where you’d usually expect a 7 or beyond.

After a decade of Samsung and other third party phones, I’m super keen on the Pixel 7 pro. Even with Samsung boosting huge MP counts for their phones, they always come across either blurry or low quality to me (especially selfies where it feels like they’ve cheaped out)

In comparison the software processing on the Pixel is amazing, things seems to always be in focus and correctly lit.

The crease is still far too noticable for me. That and the outrageous price that some of these things close when they eventually make it to the shelves with the “Australia tax” applied to it.

Never even heard of it, I’ll have to give it a go 👍🏼

It’s one of the newest D&D like games out there, so UI wise it’s probably one of the best to start on. But there are other similar games (e.g. Pathfinder Kingmaker / Pathfinder Wrath of the righteous) that I’d start on first.

Both of those last two we’re a great overall introduction into what TRPGs can be like

Great to see baulders gate 3 doing well. A perfect storm of development conditions and we get rewarded at the end of it with a fantastic game. Hopefully heaps of extra extra content down the track to keep it going

Heaps of stuff that’s positioned as the “alternative of X” feels like garbo. For example when I’m forced to use Pinta editor / GIMP over Photoshop when I’m using Linux. I get the expectation can’t be to have feature parity but some of these alternatives feel really poor

I’m still not sold on the displays. Every time I’ve seen one the promise has always been “the screen is better”, but when eventually I get hands on with them all I see is a massive crease in the middle and I can’t unsee it

Detroit: Become Human had a really great character focused narrative where basically everyone can die. Give that one a go

Another fantastic selling point, trimming down the awfully padded content in preference for a decent storyline

It looks like they have their own “vibe” and rigorously enforce it in their own community. That’s fine, it’s their service after all. Feels a bit strange to turn away potential new users when people are looking for viable alternatives

Was really keen on tildes for a moment when we were going through the exodus stage with Reddit. I wasn’t keen on the closed invite system.

I get they want to keep their own community and that’s fine, but it’s a shame they wanted to limit their growth in a time when people were looking for alternatives

Anything we can do to have competition in the market is a good thing.

Surprising, the Google homepage on Android (swipe right) seems to have some pretty decent news recently. I’m unsure if that’s because after a decade and a half all the data I’ve given them finally has yielded actually good results or if they’ve changed the way it works.

Be keen to see how it turns out when these boys go at each other.

Keen on the mixed dwellings, much more realistic. I wonder if they’ll just be a single level of commercial and the rest residential or if it’ll be dynamic. There’s some big complexes with multiple levels of commercial followed by a big highrise on top

Played heaps of Warhammer and rarely reach the long victory condition. Ah well one day maybe I’ll finish a full campaign!

Was thinking about getting it on steam myself, but I’ll probably wait a bit more until it’s got a better than 20% off discount. Probably in the Christmas sale or next year I have a feeling it’ll drop

At least with Warhammer 3 / Troy the game does at least leverage multi-core CPUS, however it really seems to cap out at 5 or 6 cores. I’ve noticed on the 12900k that it works really hard on 3-4 cores and somewhat on the others.

I’m hoping the next total war mainline game has a full engine refresh, one made for modern multi-core CPUS and leverages at least FSR 2x/DLSS 2+. If there’s a game that I think could use upscaling support, it’s a total war game.

Still amazed that I can play multiple games at 4k anywhere from 144-288hz at maxed settings with everything cranked, but I’ll get GPU capped on my 4090 in Warhammer 😮

Total war games have historically pushed both my GPU and CPU upgrades. I’m still amazed how poorly their engines are optimized, how I can run into the high 200 FPS+ range on some demanding games with my 4090 but playing Warhammer 3 on ultra quality at ultrawide 1440p pushes it to almost 100% GPU usage at around 100 FPS.

Really great game when when your can have massive battles without lag, but still amazed that even with a 4090 / 12900k the campaign map and battles aren’t perfect

I like the integration of adaptive icons for Android. I’m really keen on selecting a theme based on my current wallpaper and that color being used for all apps.

Not many apps are currently supporting it, even Facebook and other players you’d assume could do it in a seconds aren’t.

Implementing it looks fairly straight forward, you provide a transparent image of your logo and it adaptive naturally to suit your theme. I assume apps are intentionally being difficult because that visually changes their logo / branding.

It’s great when it works tho!

Aw yus, that’s exactly what I wanted to hear. When I heard that they didn’t want to change the app to allow you to use your own API key I was scratching my head wondering why, I could exist under that daily API rate.

I might give it a go

Doing a great service for the people. Reddit doesn’t deserve to keep content from people given how poorly they’ve treated the community as a whole

Still super shitty that sync for reddit is vanishing soon. While it’s great that apparently it’s getting re-leveraged as a fediverse reader, still amazed at how poorly this API transition happened because Spez wants to be a knob
